GDPs of the U.S., the U.K., Germany, Japan, the USSR, and Russia after the end of World War II are as follows:
SECTION III: Crude Steel Production From 1950 To 2008
China has 1300 million population; the U.S. has 300 million population, and Japan has 125 million population.
But, crude steel production is not so proportional at all between 1950 to 2008 in each country, even in terms of GDP.

But, it is now clear that Japan has been a hero in the 20th century, since when Japan's GDP surpassed that of the Soviet Union, the latter collapsed, putting an end to the Cold War.
