Japan in the Era of Queen Elizabeth I



In January 1593, Japanese samurai troops for real clashed with Chinese troops near Seoul in the Korean Peninsula.

Samurai generals, who were sent by the samurai king Toyotomi Hideyoshi (http://www.wsu.edu/~dee/TOKJAPAN/TOYOTOMI.HTM) to the military campaign through Korea to the Ming Dynasty of China, had to face 43,000 Ming troops.

Though Hideyoshi sent 150,000 troops equipped with harquebuses or matchlock guns, the then most advanced weapon, to the Korean Peninsula, in this decisive battle with the Ming military Japan's troops were outnumbered due to the need to address other persistent combats with Koreans. Nonetheless, samurai troops won the battle; the Chinese supreme commander escaped by a hair.

Yet, samurai generals, in scracity of food and coldness of the winter in a region so near to Siberia, understood that it was something different from what they could bear psychologically and physically to advance their troops to Beijin, the capital of Ming, and occupy Korea and China as dreamed of by Hideyoshi. So, they persuaded their lord Hideyoshi into peace conference with Ming.

Hideyoshi, believing that Ming would offer a virtual surrender and show liege homage to him, agreed with his generals who were also feud lords with their own half-independent territory in Japan. Accordingly, the samurai troops pulled out of the Korean Peninsula.

This is the third full-scale war between Japan and China, following the Battle of Baekgang (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Baekgang) in the Korean Peninsula in the 7th century and the Mongol invasion attempts against Japan in the 13th century.

(Foreign military forces, such as Korean troops and Chinese troops, have never invaded Japan all through history, except the US military after WWII.)

There have been many arguments on why Toyotomi Hideyoshi, one of great heroes in Japan's history, ventured into the war against Ming that had taken a policy of national seclusion after having tried some expansion policies over oceans since its independence from the Mongolian Empire.

Yet, you cannot judge Hideyoshi and the war from a viewpoint of today. It was the age of Queen Elizabeth I who, as a monarch of a lesser nation, had to face the then super power Spain.

Some historians in Japan find analogy between the samurai king Hideyoshi and Queen Elizabeth I.

What's more, Japan then, putting an end to the Age of Civil Wars with Hideyoshi as the last winner, produced one third of silver of the total amount in the world, to your astonishment.

Japan was also then the largest producer of the fire arms and iron products in the world, to your astonishment.

Some of many missionaries Vatican had been sending to Asia were also active in Japan. They brought the latest information on the world to Japanese feudal lords who were all of the samurai class.

Hideyoshi was not a simple brute man who only knew how to fight. To be a samurai, you had to learn various things such as reading, writing, calculation, Buddhism, Confucianism and other Chinese classical literature, traditional Japanese culture, and so on in addition to art of warfare and specific martial art to be respected as a leader of society and a lord of his feud or territory. A samurai is an intellectual or so expected.

Hideyoshi, a son of a farmer, was a true hero and genius to unify all the feud lords under his authority, putting an end of the century-long Age of Civil Wars in Japan, while keeping good relation with the Imperial Family.

Then, why did Hideyoshi try to conquer China by sending so many troops up through the Korean Peninsula?

(Korean people even today thoroughly hate Hideyoshi as just a wicked and devilish man who irreverently started a war against China and Korea, the two superior countries to Japan in their ideology. According to Sinocentrism, the top is China, the second is Korea, and the last is Japan. Hideyoshi's act was tantamount to a revolt of the order in the East Asia based on the sequence of having enjoyed the glory of the ancient Chinese Civilization.

But, If Korea then had joined Japan to conquer Ming as Hideyoshi requested, history must have been so different, since practices of teachings of good ancient Chinese Civilization were more honestly pursued in Korea and Japan than in China even in those days.

Yet, most victims of the war between Chiana and Japan in the late 16th century were Korean people. It goes without speaking that we are extremely sorry for them.)

The then world-leading production of silver as well as gold and guns in Japan, in addition to world information brought by Vatican missionaries, could be a key to Hideyoshi's judgement on possibility of success in his plan.

But, there is another decisive factor.

It is Oda Nobunaga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobunaga_Oda), Hideyoshi's long-time boss and benefactor.

Nobunaga had a dream of conquering China and becoming a great king of Asia like the then superpower of the world Spain.

If you look at the world map, you will find a strange thing that there is a world called "Latin America" where people speak Spanish, though most inhabitants are indigenous people whose ancestors had traveled to Americas from Asia more than 10,000 years ago.

Yes, if Nobunaga's dream had been fulfilled like Spain's, there might have been "Japanese China."

Of course, maturity and refinement of Chinese Civilization is three-digit advanced than that of Indigenous Civilizations in the Americas in the 16th century.

If it is a fact that maturity and refinement of Japanese Civilization then got equal to or partly surpassed China and Korea, it is an act of madness for Japan to venture into conquest of China in the late 16th century.

(Koreans then had no matchlock guns.)

Oda Nobunaga was not an ordinary person.

A type of persons like Nobunaga cannot be successful in Japan. But, history gave the only one chance to a man with such personality to be a hero in Japan.

Since having won a miracle victory when he was a young and lesser feud lord, he continued bloody and cruel victory over other major feud lords in the central part of Japan, leveraging matchlock guns introduced by Portuguese in the middle of the 16th century and devising an innovative military system.

When he was assassinated in a Buddhist temple near Kyoto, the rest of his ambition of unifying Japan was taken over by his samurai general Hideyoshi who neatly succeeded in it.

It is said that Oda Nobunaga got an idea about the world or the globe from missionaries of Vatican. He loved a terrestrial globe presented by a missionary of Vatican. He allowed for missionaries to preach the Gospels in Japan while hating some traditional Buddhist factions. It is also said that he did not respect the Imperial Family. He was a rationalist, so cool, cold, and sometimes cruel.

But, Hideyoshi served Nobunaga with ardor and obtained the biggest trust.

In a sense, a lunacy that had haunted Nobunaga must have been partly transferred to Hideyoshi as with the case commonly found in such hierarchical relation even today.

The lunacy seems to have been amplified and intensified by introduction of European Civilization into Japan through missionaries of Vatican in the era when Spain was the superpower supported by Vatican.

(But, Hideyoshi eventually began to suppress Christians and Vatican's missionaries after unification of Japan.)

In 1597, when Hideyoshi found that Ming did not surrender but treated him as a Ming's subordinate in an official letter sent to him after having withdrawn his troops from the Korean Peninsula, he felt insulted, got inflamed, and ordered another campaign to the Ming Dynasty through Korea.

But shortly thereafter Hideyoshi died in the great Osaka Castle probably by mercy of God on Koreans; the military campaign was terminated; and the samurai lords began to think about a future regime in Japan.

Ming however fatally lost its national power, which triggered its collapse in 1644.

Hideyoshi's descendants could not keep power; the Tokugawa clan took over the control of the nation through fierce battles, especially in Osaka, mobilizing every artillery guns, though explosive shells were not used in those days.

As a result, the capital of the samurai regime shifted from Osaka to Edo (Tokyo), Tokugawa's feud.

But, people in Osaka still today admire Toyotomi Hideyoshi who built the great Osaka Castle to place his headquarters in the center city of the Western Japan.

(Technically, "Toyotomi" is a surname just like "Oda" and "Tokugawa" are.)

This is what was happening in the Far East when Queen Elizabeth I was trying hard to cope with the then superpower Spain on the ocean, heavily relying on British pirates who were later recognized as nobles.

(The upper class of samurais in Japan had each also a title as a noble.)

This is what was happening when Japan was the major producer of silver as well as gold and firearms in the world in the era of Queen Elizabeth I, significance of which has almost been neglected by, or beyond understanding of, European and American elites, including cabinet members of the US Government and professors at Cambridge and Oxford.

This is what happened when Vatican first sent its missionaries to Japan in the 16th century.

But, what is good in knowing the history of Japan and its uniqueness?

In the late 16th century, when Japan was a world-leading producer of silver as well as gold and firearms, in addition to being the respected target of Vatican missionaries, there were no such things as Anglo Saxon, Anglo American, and Israelite American world powers.

In those years, the Spanish Empire tied up with Vatican was killing millions of native South Americans; however then 900-years old Islam was protecting Muslims somehow well from such violence by Europeans; and Japan with 1100-years old Buddhism practices was well prepared to face Vatican missionaries, significance of which has almost been neglected by, or beyond understanding of, European and American elites, including cabinet members of the US Government and professors at Cambridge and Oxford.

With knowledge of Japanese Civilization, you may more clearly understand the nature of the European Civilization and Vatican, so that you can more effectively improve them or cope with them.

Samurais as a whole did not pursue the lunatic dream of Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi (though they could do so like then lunatic Spanish and British, since they had funds, weapons, and information) as proven by the fact that some major samurai lords secretly rejected full cooperation with Hideyoshi. The same factor led to Japan's national isolation from the 17th century on to shut out Vatican influences.

(During Hideyoshi's campaigns, some Korean artisans and cultural figures with valuable skills and knowledge were brought to Japan and treated very well. Some of their descendants are still enjoying the legacy in Japan, though there were other unhappy and hapless cases.)

Finally, if America and Europe failed in obeying God, you can still trust in Japan, though in January 1593 Japanese samurai troops for real clashed with Chinese troops near Seoul in the Korean Peninsula.

I saw the license plate number of a car "11-11" passing by me this evening. So, I am now writing some.

An example of using a handgun in Japan:
A member of a crime syndicate, in his mid-30's, recently shot to death another member of the same syndicate at a convenience store in a city of Tokyo, and then ran back to his apartment house in which he locked himself, firing 11 bullets at police men surrounding the apartment.

When police burst into his room 15 hours later after the occurrence of the incident, the member of a crime syndicate tried to commit a suicide by shooting at himself but failed. In his room, two Makarov handguns were found.

The criminal has been a member of the crime syndicate for four years, which is not so long in a sense. He is just a low-level member but has been requested to financially contribute to the crime syndicate; he has been paying one million yen (8,300 dollars) per month to the management of the crime syndicate.

The criminal had squeezed money from special entertainment shops nearby. But, due to crackdown on those shops, they had closed the criminal business one after another, which led to a loss of source of money for the criminal.

As he became unable to financially contribute to his crime syndicate, other members began to cruelly blame him. On the very day, another member of almost the same age met with the criminal at the convenience store and condemned the criminal fiercely with every dirty accusing word, which resulted in the accuser's being shot dead.

This is one typical case that a handgun is almost exclusively used in a feud among members of crime syndicates in Japan, so far as now.

It also symbolizes a case that violence, bad money, special entertainment, and death are all linked together.

Indeed, as Jesus Christ told, if you associate with a woman familiar with violence, bad money, and special entertainment, you will also become familiar with violence, bad money, and special entertainment.

And, two of you are destined to death that leads to the hell but not to the eternal life.

Mr. Anderson Cooper of CNN today presented a state of violence in the southern district of Chicago where scores of school boys and girls were killed in this school season.

Four high-school students interviewed, all African American, said that it was money that sellers of guns and drugs minded.

Indeed, tens of thousands of weapons, including a military-grade machine gun, have been confiscated and stored in a police facility in Chicago.

I saw again two cars with the same four-digit number, such as 2035, on their license plates passing each other this evening.

Something might be getting near. God is of course in every space between every consecutive moments in this flow of time to the unknown but, in my feeling, silver direction.

Last night, NHK's report program spotlighted a social problem of handguns among people. In Japan, the law forbids possession of a gun with punishment of imprisonment with hard labor between one year and ten years.

This law applies to everyone in the territory of Japan. Ordinary citizens are never allowed to have a gun. Police officers are of course exceptions. They are carrying a gun with them, according to law.

The point in question is that nowadays not only gangsters and criminals but also the so-called ordinary citizens are getting contaminated with this crime of possessing a gun. Most of those illegally possessed guns are made in foreign countries. Import of handguns for sale is punished with imprisonment with hard labor for an unidentified prison term but longer than five years.

A Fuji TV midnight news program reported on a use of a very-small capsule to be implanted under the skin of a specific type of patients in the U.S., in which his or her disease-related data is recorded. The data is read out by a special reader in a hospital where he or she goes for medical check or treatment.

The point in question is that this use of the under-skin capsule is intended for a patient who cannot describe his or her disease or identify himself or herself to a doctor due to the disease.

As is usual for this kind of sensitive issues, the pros and cons are batted back and forth in certain American communities.

On the homepage of Washington Post, there was an advertisement of "Larry King Live" with Mrs. Nancy Reagan this morning in Japan time. She recently published a diary of her deceased husband, the late President Ronald Reagan.

President Reagan faced an assassination attempt using a handgun in 1981. It is said that a President elected in such a year as 1980 cannot fulfill his term like the cases of John F. Kennedy elected in 1960 and Abraham Lincoln elected in 1860.

However, due to special charm of Mrs. Nancy Reagan, the spell failed to work on President Ronald Reagan. Yet, Ronald Reagan after retirement suffered Alzheimer's disease which took out his memory on his life during his presidency. This spell is really die-hard.

But, President Ronald Reagan had kept a journal and First Lady Nancy Reagan has made it public finally, taking a final cut at the spell.

Mrs. Nancy Reagan looks very impressive to our eyes; she looks like a kind of typical ladies but it is difficult to see what type she represents among American ladies.

The spell of handguns and disease would chase you if you become rich and richer. This may be a very profound question.

At least, I am already praying that my neighbors will not suffer damages inflicted by a handgun or a disease. Of course, viewers of EEE-Reporter are my neighbors.

I hope that the God protects us all equally from gun bullets and diseases.

In a recent session of the International Whaling Commission (IWC), Japan this year too has requested authorization for its traditional whaling practices. But, a representative of Australia said that such an attitude would undermine Japan's outstanding reputation worldwide.

Someday, whales may be bred and reared in a large fish (?) farm like beef cattle in a ranch on the land. Along with globalization, the Antarctic Continent and the Antarctic Ocean may become suitable places for this new industry.

As for "Japan's outstanding reputation worldwide," it has been again confirmed (http://www.worldpublicopinion.org/pipa/articles/home_page/366.php?nid=&id=&pnt=366&lb=hmpg1).

In a "multinational poll by The Chicago Council on Global Affairs and WorldPublicOpinion.org," each ratio of those who answered that a certain country is acting a great deal or somewhat responsibly is as follows:

China....38%......(meaning not so responsible)
US.........41%......(meaning somewhat responsible)
Japan.....46%.....(meaning regarded as responsible)

Respondents were chosen from the following countries: China, India, the United States, Russia, France, Thailand, Ukraine, Poland, Iran, Mexico, South Korea, the Philippines, Australia, Argentina, Peru, Armenia and Israel, plus the Palestinian territories; they account for 56% of mankind.

After WWII, Japan with the pacifist Constitution almost completely stayed out of war till the War on Iraq to which 500 troops of Ground Self-Defense Force were sent (now returned to Japan) for humanitarian aids.

Instead, the U.S. entered a war in the Korean Peninsula and Vietnam, the areas once the Imperial Japan had occupied. And, the U.S. could not complete each war as a victory. It is of profound significance, since in those days Japanese veterans of WWII said that US troops did not know how to fight in the Korean Peninsula and Vietnam. Indeed, Japan almost completely stayed out of those wars.

The third major war for the U.S. is, in a sense, a long War on Iraq which started in 1991 as the Gulf War and still continues as part of the War on Terror.

And, I have a rather pessimistic view on this fatal war for some rich, very rich, and extremely rich Americans.

I will discuss this issue later.

Any way, world public opinions are important, or more important than reports produced by a governmental organization such as CIA.

If you can devise a more effective and innovative way to get, analyze, and publish this kind of information on TV, the Internet, and cellular phones, you may contribute to peace of the world and get some financial reward.

I think I can tackle the issue, though so far no business partner is found yet. Yes, I may become another Mr. Bill Gates of the 21st century...(oh, what shall I do, if I become a king of information?).

In these days, Japan has had many upsetting news reports. I have also felt sorry so often.

But, yesterday we got a nice report:
"A 71-year-old man from Japan has reportedly become the oldest person to climb to the summit of Mount Everest."

I don't know how people in the world appreciate this feat. However, it might be telling who and what a hero is.

If you have a rival you really dislike but you cannot defeat, you may want to at least live longer than he or she (of course without any criminal act involved).

You may succeed in it and you may eventually shout to yourself, "Who is the winner? I am!"

But, if you simply admire a work of the Creator which happens to be a great mountain and you can climb it, it is a great blessing. If you have such a mind and strength at age 71, you are more blessed. That must be enough for you as a matter between yourself and the God.

But, if the great mountain is Mount Everest, the highest one in the world, you can be a hero in a worldly sense, too, in your generation globally, which may be however not your concern.

A humble Japanese old man never gets proud and shouts "Who is the winner? I am!"

In his composure, we sense a tradition of 1000-years old samurai spirit, 1500-years old Buddhism practices, 2000-years old racial consciousness, and more than 10,000-years old unique spiritual development in the Japanese Archipelago.

For example, if your society now consists of 10% of extremely bad people, 20% of very bad people, 30% of bad people, and 40% of not so bad people, you would feel it should be improved.

As a result of following the teachings of Jesus Christ, if you society now consists of 1% of extremely bad people, 10% of very bad people, 20% of bad people, 30% of not so bad people, and 39% of ordinary people, you may feel it is being improved.

Each country in the world can be analyzed this way. For example, I feel that the latter case may apply to Japan.

Then, what about the U.S.? Of course, it may also correspond to the latter case for your great efforts to obey God, Jesus Christ, and Holy Spirits.

In addition, the winner of the Miss Universe pageant this year is reportedly a Japanese girl. But, there are many good girls in Japan who look as nice as the winner. So, I think we have 10 million "Miss Universes" in Japan nowadays.

However, the title "Miss Universe" sounds like a thin joke. No good-looking women took part in the Gospels in my interpretation. But, somewhere in the Bible, there might be a description that the world got worse when a man began to choose his wife based on how a woman looked. It almost means choosing a beautiful woman as a wife is a sin. If your faith advances, only a mind and heart matters even when you choose a wife, though it may be still a kind of sin to choose a beautiful woman as your wife. A man with a beautiful wife therefore should not be respected, even for this reason only, more than a man with a wife who does not look commercially valuable at all.

Mr. Toru Takagi, currently on the staff of NHK, wrote a book on the demolition of statues of Buddha carried out by Taliban in March 2001, "Daibutsu Hakai"

If you are not satisfied with the report issued by the US official committee on the 9/11 terror, you should check this nonfiction book, though written in Japanese in late 2004, with details on relationships between Mr. Osama bin Laden and Mr. Muhammad Umar and also AlQaeda and Taliban that led to the 9/11 terror which has changed so many lives of American citizens, in some cases, forever.

Mr. Muhammad Umar is believed to have had no idea about where the U.S. is on a world map before he became the supreme leader of Afghanistan in 1996. He was nothing but a local unrenowned religious leader who had not reportedly even completed standard Islamic education courses but was teaching poor people in a small community in the war-torn country when he started his military campaign with a score of fellow Muslims only with rifles as their sole weapons in 1994 or so. But, Allah wished a miracle and he won.

Mr. Muhammad Umar was a true hero who had driven out bandits, thugs, gangsters, and every blackguard who had been doing every criminal or vicious act in every village, town, and the capital of Afghanistan after the withdrawal of USSR troops that had intervened in the civil war in Afghanistan until 1989.

Even after Mr. Muhammad Umar seized the power of Afghanistan, he was clad in rags and living in an ordinary humble house without any decorations and rich furniture.

Mr. Muhammad Umar had said he would help experts and intellectuals create a new government in Kabul and then return to his own village after restoring order in the country, but he did not; He kept the highest position in the government though living in Kandahar, a center of his tribe.

According to the report by Mr. Toru Takagi of NHK, the Japan's largest news organization:
- Mr. Muhammad Umar is not the one who had invited Mr. Osama bin Laden to Afghanistan. Mr. Osama bin Laden and the one who had invited him went out to Kandahar and pleaded respectfully to Mr. Muhammad Umar so that Mr. Osama bin Laden could stay in Afghanistan as a kind of national guest.

- Mr. Osama bin Laden had played an active role mostly in Pakistan during the holy war against the Soviet Union troops in 1980's, and thus there had been no relationship before the above meeting between Mr. Osama bin Laden and Mr. Muhammad Umar, also a fighter against the USSR troops.

- It is those Muslims who later became the enemy of Mr. Muhammad Umar that had tied up with Mr. Osama bin Laden in the war against the UUSR troops.

- Mr. Muhammad Umar and his fellows did not respect the career of Mr. Osama bin Laden in the war against the USSR troops.

- Mr. Muhammad Umar and his fellows got angry when Mr. Osama bin Laden, without approval of Taliban, accepted an interview of the West media in 1998 and expressed his own view against America.

- Mr. Osama bin Laden spent much money to win Mr. Muhammad Umar's favor and flung many Arab fighters to battle lines against the Northern Alliance to be trusted by Taliban. Especially four-wheel-drive trucks of Toyota and Nissan Mr. Osama bin Laden presented to Taliban became effective war machine that helped Taliban's operation revolutionarily.

- A few years after the start of relationships with Mr. Osama bin Laden, Mr. Muhammad Umar looked like a rich man, owning luxuries imported from the West and living in a newly built big house in Kandahar in which bundles of bills were kept.

- Mr. Osama bin Laden seems to have succeeded in making Taliban and Mr. Muhammad Umar believe that the U.S. and Israel are true enemies of Islam and Muslims. In a sense, Mr. Muhammad Umar was educated (or brainwashed) by Mr. Osama bin Laden, who always behaved humbly before the supreme leader of Afghanistan, to have an anti-West view.

- The great statutes of Buddha in Bamiyan, built in the fourth and fifth centuries, had been left without decisive demolition by Muslims in Afghanistan for 1000 years; thus contemporary Muslims who are requested to respect their Muslim ancestors should leave the statues as they are. Therefore the fact that Mr. Muhammad Umar approved the demolition meant that some drastic change occurred inside his mind.

Just before actual work of the demolition started or after a failure in blasting by Taliban members, Mr. Osama bin Laden and his professional demolition men visited the site and gave detailed order; then the statutes were successfully blown off.

It became a big advertisement for Mr. Osama bin Laden and AlQaeda.

At Giza, Egypt, five years later, a great museum is to open with 100,000 or more items to be transferred from the current archaeological museum in Cairo.

So, I have decided to write some following advice from the Lord God Almighty.

The most decisive factor that would separate a man from a woman or a woman from a man after the establishment of intimate association is finding or realizing the difference in a level of their individual ethics or an ethical sense.

A law-abiding man cannot tolerate a woman who loves a criminal act. A merciful woman cannot tolerate a man who loves cruelty to the weak and the poor. They will surely be separated from each other.

However, in order to confine a woman who loves a criminal act or a man who loves cruelty to the weak and the poor, society and religion might forbid the couple to get separated and find another partner or a victim. Society and religion may request one of the couple to be a keeper of another who is meaner as long as they live in this world. It is intended to protect other members of society. No more victims of a potential crime should be allowed ideally.

Nonetheless, a man with a special higher level of spirituality may separate himself from a real world at least to a certain extent like a case of Newton.

Indeed, the difference between Keynes and Newton looks also so big: a quest of human economics and a quest of the universe or God's Design.

But, as people want to be rich by neglecting others who are poor, we need weird economics.

Therefore, difference in ethics in terms of economy divides and separates people: those who go to the hell from those who go to Heaven.

Nonetheless we will not complain it, for it is the matter after the death when our consumption of material luxuries of civilization is terminated.

We must have nothing to claim in that situation to God, our Creator.

The news that has gained topicality in these days in Japan is a result of survey on quality of tourists a British tourism organization conducted and the news agencies PA and Kyodo distributed.

According to the result, the ranking on nationalities in terms of quality of tourists:
1st - Japanese supported by 65% of respondents of the research
2nd - Americans supported by 30%
3rd - Swiss supported by 18%

Last - French

Now, you know who good neighbors are to the world. However, Japanese are not Christians at all. Not Judaists at all. Not Muslims at all. Yet, Japanese are good neighbors to the others in their traveling all over the world.

I really believe that the God or Allah will take this into account when He judges this age.

One of terrible things in the international relationships is prejudice.

Once German women toured through Africa, specifically, in a region in the south of the Sahara. They carried a grand piano with them. Two decades ago or so, when a Japanese castle built by a samurai clan at the beginning of the 17th century was nominated for a World Heritage, some European academic researchers thought such a large-scale castle in Japan must have undergone various repair work in its most part and thus had no value as a cultural heritage. They did not trust Japanese who put such a castle on the nomination. But, when they came to Japan to check and evaluate the castle, they found the 400-year old castle was well preserved and showed expertise of Japanese traditional architecture. Indeed, if prejudice did not trigger a war, people could be easily mobilized to a war when they have prejudice. It applies to both Americans and Muslims.

It is partly due to globalization of economy which has forced companies to cut labor costs. (Unlike in the 20th century, nowadays there are many non-permanent employees in every company in Japan.)

Nonetheless, even before the globalization of economy, it has been very common for elite employees to work until late. Elite bureaucrats are also no exemption.

They work until 8 p.m., 9 p.m., 10 p.m., or further later. Accordingly, main night news programs or news-show programs broadcast by Japanese TV stations start at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. (NHK), around 10 p.m. (TV Asahi), around 11 p.m. (NTV, TBS), and even at 11:30 p.m. (Fuji TV).

(However, some domestic satellite TV channels and cable channels offer 24 hour news broadcasting in addition to foreign TV stations viewed in Japan.)

One of them, last night, spotlighted Sudan.

The U.S. did not start the military campaign in Afghanistan in order to make Afghanistan rich, but would it be a nice result that they have now more poor farmers and more opium production in Afghanistan than ever, though Al-Qaeda seems to have lost its intention and capability to launch another attack on the U.S. from Afghanistan?

We cannot judge it. But, American citizens have actually decided to support the approach of "not minding poor and opium-contaminated Afghan people but just minding destruction of Al-Qaeda's bases in Afghanistan."

Only the God will judge righteousness in the decision of US citizens through history, especially, in near future.

When Herman Melville wrote "Moby Dick" in 1851, the first Anglo-Afghan War finished, but the war was to be repeated twice more until 1919.

Then the U.S. got involved behind the scenes in the Afghan Holy War against the Soviet Union. The U.S. funded and trained anti-government and anti-communist Muslims.

In the wake of 9/11 terror, the U.S. opted for military solution to deal with Al-Qaeda. The Taliban regimes collapsed, but the fact is that the most of Taliban soldiers just returned to their homes in local poor villages in this US-Afghan War still unsettled.

There is a following proverb in Japan:

Literal: Buddha's face too three times.
Meaning: To try the patience of a saint, even a Buddha's face will loose it's composure if asked something too many times.

Afghanistan, in the east of nuclear-oriented Iran and in the west of nuclear-equipped Pakistan and India, might face a decisive situation in the form of its fourth War unless things are settled and fixed well by a super hero such as Alexander the Great.

In ancient days, namely even before Abraham left Ur, Mesopotamia and Indus Valleys had a commercial tie.

Ideally, oil rich Iraq and Iran should peacefully tie up with regional leading economy India as well as their Islamic friend Pakistan through Afghanistan.

If the current situations in Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India lead to this ideal alliance in near future, the current US involvement in this South West Asia may be justified and appreciated.

Or, the current US involvement in this South West Asia must be aimed at helping achieve the ideal peaceful alliance among Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India.

As Afghan GDP is 32 billion dollars (one third of which is from opium business) and US budget on the War on Terror is 145 billion dollars for FY 2008, it would not be difficult for the U.S. to double the wealth of Afghanistan and thus eradicate opium in and terror influence on the apocalyptic country.

Finally I hope the best and brightest among US citizens will tackle the challenge to save poor women, children, and farmers in Afghanistan.

Otherwise, another Ishmael out of the Melville's prophecy, instead of another Alexander the Great, might exploit the situation in the war-torn region.

Studying Talmud or Studying Israelites


In December 2003, "JUDAISM: A Very Short Introduction" by Norman Solomon (http://spruce.flint.umich.edu/~simoncu/165/judaism.htm) was translated by Mr. Tetsuo Yamaga and published in Japan.

I do recommend this book especially to Japanese in whose country only scores of converts to Judaism live among its population of 120 million.

It is always thrilling to see how a non-nonsense Israelite thinks about Jesus Christ.

The story really reflects how Judaism was influenced by Jesus Christ. Its core of the lesson really matches a teaching of Jesus Christ.

No matter how Israelites deny influence on their minds and hearts of teaching of Jesus Christ, Israelites after the emergence of Jesus Christ and the first century completely changed from their ancestors in and before the critical era.

In anything newly developed or performed by Israelites since the first century in terms of culture and religion including Jerusalem Talmud and Babylonian Talmud, there must be such influence, as Norman Solomon wrote that Judaism in a sense followed Christianity as the two critical Talmuds were compiled and completed around or by the sixth century.

(Influence of Jesus Christ on Jewish-Roman Wars is also a critical issue, though conventionally completely denied. Emergence of Jesus Christ, Jewish-Roman Wars, and establishment of two Talmuds are in one chain reaction the God intended.)

From this point of view, Judaism especially after the 6th century may be regarded as a kind of Christianity in which everything about Jesus Christ is however completely screened out. As the color of majority of Israelites changed from dark olive to white, their religion changed from classic Judaism to Christ's-teaching-underlined Judaism especially when Khazar Kingdom converted itself to Judaism in the 8th century.

(And, Islam was established in the 7th century following God's plan.)

One example is the above story in Chapter 5 where humble and poor Israelites exercised their love to neighbors exactly as an Israelite but, as a matter of fact, following teachings of Jesus Christ.

Israelites depicted in the Gospels would not have acted in such a manner as is depicted in the story in Chapter 5, namely, with thoughtfulness, modesty, and self-sacrifice based on love to neighbors.

Jesus Christ may be also regarded as having been the Messiah to Israelites for these 2000 years. He must be a super hero for Israelites, too, though so secretly or unconsciously, since foreigners had made Him their hero earlier, which caused a great psychological obstacle to Israelites after the first century.

(Israelites must be secretly proud that one of their blood brothers conquered the Roman Empire and Europe, and has been revered as God by Europeans and Americans, though Nazis' atrocity on them should be analyzed at a higher level than they have ever done.)

Another interesting issue is the beginning of the history of Israelites, that is, 3760 B.C. Israelites claim that the human history started some 5760 years ago; thus year 2007 is anno mundi (AM: since the Creation) 5767 for Israelites.

4000 B.C. - Horses were domesticated in the prairies in the north of the Black Sea.

4000 B.C. - City Ur was built in Mesopotamia.

3761 B.C. - The epoch of Hebrew calendar: October 7, 3761 B.C.

3600 B.C. - Sumerian Civilization established with cities fully enjoying self- independence.

It is apparent that ancient Israelites had a kind of traditions of, obligation to, respect for, passion for, or attachment to the memory of the Sumerian Civilization.

They were not wandering nomads who only knew cattle breeding, without any glory or memory of their glorious ancestors.

Israelites must be more glorious than they today think themselves to be or they have been made to think themselves to be.

If Vatican is involved in this conspiracy, its sin is deeper than any sea; otherwise they should have appointed an Israelite to Co-Pope or at least Honorable Co-Hope from the beginning.

In short, Israelites have been, regardless of their self-recognition, a kind of, or otherwise secret or unconscious Christians, no matter if everything about Jesus Christ is completely screened out in their religion, as proven by the story in Chapter 5 of "JUDAISM: A Very Short Introduction."

They are also honorable descendants of Sumerians, the first civilized race, no matter how scarce their heritage is, as proven by their setting of 3760 B.C. as their epoch.

There is also a theory that Islam has been a kind of Judaism though only for the so-called descendants of Ishmael.

Indeed, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are secretly one in trinity, of which the deepest root is in Mesopotamia and as far as to the God Almighty, our God.

And now, you may sense what religion I believe in. It may be partly the same one as Sumerians did, which may be the one prevailing in the Garden of Eden which must still have room for you.

Mr. Ushioda Michio of The Mainichi Newspapers saw the film "Blood Diamond" and wrote some comment in the Japanese newspaper:
- The total amount of business on diamond worldwide is 26 billion dollars.
- Two thirds of the diamond transactions are now carried out in India.
- Once the world No.1 diamond business center was Antwerp, but now is Surat in West India.
- Following Surat are Tel Aviv, Singapore, and Antwerp in terms of diamond transactions.

Mr. Ushioda got the above information from Mr. Aftab Seth, the former Indian Ambassador to Japan.

Mr. Ushioda's concern is however on the features of a bubble the Indian economy is now taking on, with 40% or so yearly rise in land prices in Mumbai and Bangalore.

Japan has purchased almost 50% of all investment trusts issued for India.

Therefore his main worry is about influence on Japan of possible troubles in the Indian Economy that is expected to grow this year by 9%.

As I once mentioned, what is necessary in India is electricity in poor villages and families which constitute the majority of the Indian population.

However, the shift of the center of diamond business implies something important: the gravity center of the world economy is moving toward the east.

In the great Asian region from Persian Gulf States to India, China, and Japan, a great potential of economic and social development lies, though challenge can be still bloody and uphill, with terror, great disasters, social and political corruption, nuclear crisis, and wars going on and feared.

However if terror, great disasters, social and political corruption, nuclear crisis, and wars are all solved and addressed, the whole region can be prosperous without intervention by Europe.

The economic power of the whole region combined will surpass that of Europe.

It may be "dream come true" for Asians who have been put under Europeans for centuries.

Of course, there is still a great lead of Europe against Asia in terms of advanced technology, science, economics, and various modern systems in society and administration.

Therefore, whether this dream comes true or not depends on young Asians who are now studying and working in various advanced fields in Europe or America.

They have to come back to their home countries to make this Asian dream come true.

Diamond business will become only a very small example of success in future, if they properly take on the issue.

Truly I will have to talk about Judaism, Christianity, and Islam in addition to history for the peace of whole mankind including Asians, Europeans, and European Americans as well as Japanese.
