Choice Facing the Islamic Terror

Last night or early this morning around 3 or 4 a.m. of Japan Time, a strange thing happened to me.  A stranger called me by phone but I did not respond to it.

And, in the morning news on TV, they were reporting that 100 persons were killed in Paris.

I really think that God gave me pre-notice of the very tragic and disastrous terror in the capital of France carried out by Islamic terrorists.

If Muslims in Europe can live peacefully enjoying a high level of living standards, there would be no acts of terror in Paris and other cities in Europe.  If all the Islamic nations in the Middle East, including Syria and Iraq, are governed by democratic governments and could enjoy social stability and prosperity as seen in the West, there would be no acts of terror in Paris and other cities in Europe.

But both the conditions seem to be impossible.  Then, will the world have to continue to suffer such terror as seen in Paris today?

The underlying issue is how poor Muslims feel desperate.  And, to them, prosperity of the West has been achieved by sacrificing them.  So, the West should give them hope toward the future.  The West should help Islamic countries develop economy after putting an end to the wars ranging from Syria to Iraq and Afghanistan.  Then no Muslims would go and live France and other European countries.

However, this world is under influences of rich European and American people.  They would think that it is advantageous for them to make poor Muslims poorer.  They would not give up any of their wealth to make poor Muslims a little happy.  People who are making big money in London and New York would not mind if the Third World War is triggered by this conflict between Islamic terrorists and France.

To prevent this trend of Islamic terror, we have to deal with super-rich people and rich people of the West and other regions, including the Islamic world.  We have to force them to give up a major part of their wealth so as to transfer necessary money for poor Muslims.  

But, if super-rich people and rich people of the West and other regions, including the Islamic world, think they do not mind terror caused by poor Muslims as long as they can enjoy rich lives, this trend of terror would continue to the full-phase of the Third World War.

Peace and poverty of all or the war and the huge gap between the poor and the rich are a choice for us.

Christ Jesus and Each Individual

The most important aspect of Christ Jesus is that He can answer any questions from anybody.

"How should I handle the case?", "How can I act on this occasion?", "Which one should I choose?", etc.  People have various questions, but Christ Jesus can answer them all with authority.  It is because He is God.  He must understand everything and every individual living in this world to the details.

Christ Jesus has to carry every burden each person is carrying and suffering.  If there is one unhappy person, He can take responsibility for it.  If there is a person feeling pain, Christ Jesus can be in charge of solving it.

But, can any person say that he will take care of everyone living in the world?  Indeed, what Christ Jesus meant through His words and actions is that He would understand everybody and address all of their problems.

In this context, Christ Jesus is the king of mankind, since a true king is the one who is responsible for every problem and trouble his subjects face.

But, in reality, everybody cannot even handle well his own problem.  We cannot even help our neighbors so as to relief them from their pain.  We cannot carry burdens of our neighbor so as to help them.  We cannot be responsible for unhappiness of our neighbors.  But Christ Jesus can take responsibility for unhappiness of everyone on the earth.

If He has not such ability, He is just a man.  As He has such super ability, He can be God.  But to understand His ability, it is better for us to think about it as to whether He can answer every question and solve every problem each individual is concerned with or suffering.  It is so, because the greatest issue for individuals is always their personal issues concerning human relationships, social status, financial problems, duties, responsibilities, fears, worries, etc.

In other word, we had better rely on Christ Jesus and consult Him in order to find answers to our individual questions or lessen our pains and burdens.  In this, there is great value and merit in following and believing Christ Jesus.

So, we should know how great Christ Jesus is, since He can handle every problem of everybody.

Today I saw a miracle.  Just in front of me, two cars with identical main license-plate numbers (ex. 27-71 and 27-71) appeared side by side on a road, though some other minor parts of the license plate description were different.  I think it was a sign for something great happening.  And I saw somebody on a street, so interestingly.

What type of people were abhorred by Christ Jesus?

First of all, rich men, and then professionals of religion and the elite in society.  From a king to a petty official, persons in the positions of any political power are abhorred by Christ Jesus.  Today, especially elite bureaucrats who fall in this category are all the more influential on the general public openly or covertly.

When Haruki Madarame was recently interviewed by The Nihon Keizai Shimbun newspaper, he mentioned his experiences in this regard he encountered as chairman of a certain governmental committee to supervise the Japanese nuclear energy industry.

It looks like an episode before the occurrence of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident.  When Madarame could not agree to an issue or a decision an elite official of a nuclear related agency of Japan put forward to him, the official intimidated him, saying, "Mr. Chairman, then we will stop providing information for you."

The committee Mr. Madarame presided over had regulatory power and authority.  He was in a position to supervise activities of nuclear-related agencies of the Japanese Government.  But elite bureaucrats knew a method of reversely controlling Mr. Madarame.

In the wake of the Fukushima nuclear accident, Madarame suddenly became a person in the news.  Many people blamed him, since he could not guide the nuclear industry sufficiently professionally to prevent the accident.  He was forced to answer every severe question in official sessions held in the Japanese parliament, called the Diet.

To the general public of Japan at the time, the most responsible persons for the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident were top executives of the Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO), then prime minister Naoto Kan, and chairman of the Nuclear Safety Committe of Japan Haruki Madarame.

However, Madarame testified that elite bureaucrats were also responsible or more responsible.  After the accident, they ran away, shifting all of their responsibilities to Madarame and the operator TEPCO.

Indeed, even staff of TEPCO complained that those elite officials of government agencies had requested many meaningless reports and applications from TEPCO for years before the accident.  When TEPCO engineers tried to apply a minor change to a nuclear facility, they were requested to file many papers and forms to regulatory agencies.  But, most of officials in those agencies had not good knowledge about the nuclear engineering.

And in fact, no elite bureaucrats were blamed for the nuclear accident to be reprimanded or demoted.  They have really succeeded in running away.


So, in any countries, elite bureaucrats must be keenly monitored and supervised, since power and authority they have are far larger than the general public assume.

However, one of major reasons why ISIS gained momentum and has acquired formidable military power and political influences around Iraq and Syria is that the US military forces had almost completely destroyed the bureaucratic system of the Saddam Hussein regime through the War on Terror.

It is indeed difficult to make the best use of bureaucracy.  We have to at least remember that Christ Jesus hated it even in Jerusalem 2000 years ago.

Truly, we have to be careful, since it is thought that key members of ISIS are ex-elite bureaucrats or military officials of the Iraq Government ruled by Saddam Hussein and the Baath party.

Origin of Nationalism of the Empire of Japan

In the transition period from the samurai era to the modernized Meiji era in Japan in 1850s and 1860s, there was a civil war between the samurai camp supporting the Tokugawa shogun, the title of the head of the samurai class for the past 250 years, and the opposition samurai camp gathering around the imperial court in Kyoto.

The Tokugawa regime was then taking a policy to open the door of the nation to the world after 250 year-long isolation of Japan, in the wake of receiving a strong request from the US to establish a diplomatic relation between the two countries.  (For this purpose, the US sent a fleet well armed to Tokyo Bay to deliver a written official demand to the Tokugawa government in 1853.)

But the anti-Tokugawa camp was against the policy.  They claimed that the nation isolation policy had been supported by the imperial court in addition to past shoguns.  Therefore, they requested the Tokugawa clan to return the title of shogun to the imperial court and step down from power.

The then shogun Tokugawa Yoshinobu actually returned the title to the emperor but tried to become the head of the new government to be established in cooperation with all the samurai leaders and the imperial court.  However, the opposition samurais did not accept this plan.  They thought that it was a good opportunity to put an end to the rule by the Tokugawa clan.  So, the revolutionary troops, mainly consisting of samurais of the Chosyu clan and the Satsuma clan, started a civil war against the Tokugawa government.

Nonetheless, now ex-shogun Tokugawa Yoshinobu did not respond to a violent challenge from the opposition with his troops.  He left the Edo Castle, the main base of the Tokugawa shogun, in Tokyo (then called Edo) and retired in a temple.  But some samurai clans who did not like to obey leaders of the opposition samurai camp fought back.  As a result a year-long civil war was set off in Japan in 1868.  

It ended with overwhelming victory of the anti-Tokugawa samurai camp.  And Emperor Meiji moved from Kyoto to Tokyo to be the effective monarch of Japan.

However, after taking over power from the Tokugawa clan, those imperial samurai leaders changed their diplomatic policy.  They abandoned the nation isolation policy to see advanced industrial power of the Western powers.  They formed the Meiji Government to introduce into Japan various Western systems and products of the Western civilization.

Though some samurais who were on the Tokugawa side were purged or executed, Tokugawa Yoshinobu was eventually pardoned and competent samurais who once served the Tokugawa regime were employed by the Meiji Government.  And, Japan started in full swing to modernization and industrialization as a whole.

However, it is important that most of samurai leaders who demolished the feudalistic Tokugawa regime had been first against the opening of the nation.  Though their main motive was apparently to simply go counter to the Tokugawa shogun, they must have wanted to protect the culture and traditions of Japan from foreign influences.  In this context, they might be called patriots.


And, 70 years later, namely in 1941, the Empire of Japan launched a risky war against the US, the UK, and other allied European countries.  Even at the time, the samurai (warrior) spirit was observed well by military officers and some politicians.  And there were many generals of the Imperial Army and Navy who were descendants of Chosyu and Satsuma samurais.  It is as if their old ideology of national isolation or samurai-era nationalism had revived.  During WWII, those leaders of the Imperial Army and Navy and the Imperial Government showed strong hostility to the Western culture, though the Empire allied with Germany and Italy.

After WWII or the defeat of the Imperial military to the US, Japanese changed their policy again.  They accepted the American-style democracy as well as various American systems and cultural influences.  The democratic Japanese Government became so pro-American.  Even the Imperial House of Japan discarded the old paradigm of accepting militarism based on samurai spirit.  Today, love for peace seems to be one of main features of the Imperial House.

Nonetheless, if there had not been the civil war (called the Boshin War due to the name of 1868 in classic Japanese) between the Tokugawa camp and the imperial samurai camp in 1868, the Empire of Japan before WWII should have been more realistic and pragmatic in its diplomatic policy with many ex-elite samurais of the Tokugawa regime taking key positions in the Meiji Government and the successive Imperial Government.


For example, ancestors of incumbent Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, were samurais of the Chosyu clan whose territory was mostly present-day Yamaguchi Prefecture in West Japan.

The US Should Accept Muslim Refugees More

Christ Jesus said to leave a town where you are persecuted (for His name).

Therefore, refugees leaving Islamic countries where they are put in a predicament due to civil wars and battles involving Western powers should be warmly accepted in each destination country.

When Jerusalem was destroyed by Roman troops, Israelites became refugees 2000 years ago.  However it seems that they were accepted, somewhat well, in other cities or regions around the Mediterranean Sea under control of the Roman Empire.

Many of those Judaists seem to have moved to around Rome.  And, subsequently they settled in Northern Italy.  Probably Roman citizens did not like to have Judaists in or around Rome where Christianity was gaining population.  Accordingly Judaists opted to live in Northern Italy.  But as the Roman Empire had long colonies in the north of the Alps, those Judaists further decided to move into central Europe along the rivers flowing from the Alps.

Eventually these Judaists came to live in regions along the Rhine and other major rivers running through the present day Germany, probably following Romans travelling there.  Then ancestors of today's Germans and other Germanic peoples started to invade these areas from the north and the northeast.  There they encountered Judaists.

(Before the Judaists settled in these areas, there had been living Celtic people and different types of Germanic peoples than ancestors of today's Germans who had fought troops led by Caesar and other Roman generals.)

Therefore, Judaists had ironically longer history in the area today called Germany or at least in some cities built by Romans there than ancestors of today's Germans had.

But Judaists were almost driven out of Germany and adjacent regions through WWII.  However, the reason is more a difference in tribalism than in religion between Judaists and today's Germans.  It cannot be Christianity Germans observed, to any degree, while trying to annihilate Judaists in the period around WWII.  It is cultural and spiritual heritage they took over from ancestors who had lived in the era before the coming of Christianity to central Europe or the north of the Alps.

Strong tribal features modern Germans inherited from their ancient ancestors seem to have been very exclusive.  Accordingly, they instinctively hated Judaists who had been living in present-day Germany earlier than ancestors of Germans.  Accordingly there had been a danger of ethnic strife between Judaists living in Germany and Germans for 2000 years or so.  This must be the largest underlying cause of the Holocaust Hitler had played a leading part in.

What should be feared now is that today's Islamic refugees heading for Germany and other neighbor nations might face a similar situation eventually to that Judaists once encountered in Europe: ethnic strife between Muslims coming to live in Germany and other neighbor nations and Germans and other Europeans.  Tribal differences must work, at least sometimes, more strongly and profoundly than religious differences.

Probably, the ultimate destination of those Islamic refugees should be America.  Indeed, it is the US that triggered the bloody and violent situations today observed in the Islamic regions.  America's War on Terror should have been fought in a more sophisticated manner.  If so, there would have been no refugees from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. to Germany and other European countries.

The US should accept Muslim refugees more and more.

Prolonged War Entering a New and Worse Phase

If a war lasts long, something terrible or drastic happens as if it were entering a new phase.

The Empire of Japan had been fighting against China since 1937.  Then the US demanded withdrawal of Imperial troops from mainland China while freezing Japanese assets in the US and imposing embargo of crude oil to the Empire.  Finally in December 1941, Tokyo was virtually forced to attack Pearl Harbor to address the diplomatic impasse.

And in August 1945, the US dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki after the long and bloody battles around the Pacific Ocean.

The Vietnam War was fought between 1960 and 1975.  And after this war, a massacre occurred in Cambodia, adjacent to Vietnam.  One million or more citizens were executed by the communist government led by Pol Pt around 1978.  Even a war broke out between Vietnam and China in 1979.  These tragedies in the Indochina Peninsula were apparently triggered by the Vietnam War.

Afghanistan experienced a civil war with interference from the Soviet Union from 1978 to 1989.  Subsequently the Taliban took over power in 1996 through another civil war.  And, in 2001, the Taliban together with its ally AlQaeda, based in this war-torn country, came to be attacked by the US and its coalition forces after Osama's attack on New York and Washington DC on Sept. 11, 2001.

Iraq was put into a war with the US in 2001 as Saddam Hussein did not surrender in the wake of the 9/11 Terror, though Hussein had no clear connection to AlQaeda.  Around 2006, the US finally almost controlled and kept order all over Iraq, and Barack Obama, after elected as President in 2008, started withdrawal of US troops from Iraq.  Then, an extreme armed group called ISIS began to prevail in regions from Iraq to Syria.

Now Syria has been in a civil war since 2011.  And finally Russians have come to be engaged in this war with military planes to support the Assad regime; on the other hand, the US is going to send special forces there to fight ISIS.  But ISIS is also fighting back, even by setting a bomb in a Russian jetliner flying over the Sinai Peninsula.

So, if a war continues in a longer period of time, something so different in paradigm and scale would often emerge.  In other word, such a long war enters a new and worse phase eventually.

And, today, those prolonged states of wars in the Islamic regions seem to invoke something different, which should be probably called the Third World War.  Indeed, millions of Muslims are fleeing those regions to the center of Europe while the US and Russia are getting involved more and more.  The prospect for these movements looks so ominous.


But, those who call the name of God should be saved.  Since this era might be really in a process of the end of the world for many involved in a tragic manner.  Truly, if the 21st century becomes another century of war following the 20th century, the world can be ended.

Living Poor is Very Correct

If we admit the existence of God, it naturally leads to a question: what is the relationship between God and mankind?

We cannot believe that God created mankind without a purpose.  There must be a clear and concrete reason for the creation of mankind by God.  The Bible does not give a direct answer.  But Christ Jesus said that God loves mankind so much and thus we must love God as much as possible.

From this teaching of Christ Jesus, we may conclude that God wants love from mankind so that He created this material universe, the solar system, and the earth to generate the human species.  No matter how complicated and difficult this process looks to human beings, it must be a very easy task for God.

According to the teaching of Christ Jesus, our souls, hearts, and minds are linked to the spiritual universe and Heaven.  For instance, Christ Jesus told us to accumulate wealth in Heaven but not in this world that makes any wealth rotten eventually.  Therefore, our love must be reflected in Heaven or accumulated there.  Each time we express and prove our love to God, it must be reflected or recorded in Heaven.  Our love to God might work in Heaven in a manner that makes God happy.

No matter how much mankind has developed and advanced its civilization, God will not be rejoiced.  But, an increase of the number of people who show their love everyday must rejoice God.  In this context, the level of the civilization of mankind may as well be kept at that observed 2000 years ago when Christ Jesus appeared in Palestine.  Growth of material civilization in these 2000 years must be nothing in God's judgment on mankind.  But an increase in a percentage of believers among all must count.

Indeed, the more men accumulate wealth and material knowledge of this world and the nature, the less they have righteous faith in God.  Among very successful wealthy people and very successful scientists, we find rarely true belief in God.  If they attribute their success to God superficially, they most often celebrate their own good lucks but not God.

Science and technology continue to develop.  And, one day somebody might obtain a means to destroy mankind scientifically or financially.  And, Satan will surely seduce such a lucky man or a genius into a catastrophic act for mankind.

The only solution to prevent future annihilation of mankind must be for them to keep the living standard observed 2000 years ago when Christ Jesus appeared on the earth.  In other word, for the human species to survive until the end of the universe it is necessary for them to be as poor as Christ Jesus was 2000 years ago.

It applies to each individual.  Living poor is a very correct thing if you believe the existence of God.

Therefore we have to respect and love poor people if they are refugees from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.

Love needs freedom.  Without liberty no true love is possible.

Accordingly, despotic states should be defeated and dictatorship should be abolished.  Accordingly, old despotic leaders in Libya, Egypt, Iraq, and Afghanistan were drove out of power.  Peoples in those countries obtained some freedom as well as inevitably and sadly bloody tragedies.

In Syria, its half broken government is still somewhat functioning based on support from Russia and Iran, both of which are half despotic states.

In China, there is no sign of immediate fall of the Chinese Communist Party.  As long as its economy is sustained at a certain level, Chinese people seem to dream of being rich rather than being free.

Another issue is that usually a despotic government is only destroyed through a civil war or a foreign war.  Costs for freedom are always very high.

Anyway as the United Nations are still under strong influences of the two despotic nations, Russia and China, the world cannot be completely free from the enemy of freedom, dictatorship.

However, when one nation is competing with another nation that is much stronger, the former needs strong unity of its people to fight out a war against the latter.  Even if the weak nation has a democratic system in its society to some extent, it would restrict the movement toward expansion of democracy and freedom and introduce stern control of its society and industry.  In some case, such a nation might adopt militarism to mobilize all the resources it has toward the war against the strong nation.

This situation was once observed in Japan.

From the abolition of its national isolation and the start of Westernization in the middle of the 19th century, Japan had to face strong foreign powers invading Asia.  Japanese had introduced various systems from Europe and America to become one of major military powers before WWII.  It also introduced democracy to some extent, but to fight out or prepare for wars against Russians, the US, the UK, etc., the then Japanese leaders had to rely on an authoritarian frame of mind.  They must have thought if all the Japanese had become dedicated soldiers, there should have been a chance to win wars against Russians and Western powers who had more advanced industrial power.

In this context, the Japanese militarism in the period of WWII might be justified to some degree.

But, the Empire of Japan had the most advanced and mightiest military forces in Asia before WWII.  If the Empire had made war against other Asian nations, the above justification could not be sustained.  The issue of the war between the Empire of Japan and China in WWII should be reviewed also in light of this paradigm, though, against the background concerning conflicts between Japanese and Western powers.

However, the Japanese people obtained freedom after WWII, which the Chinese people cannot enjoy even today.

Now, in the Islamic world, this issue involves another factor religion.  Religion makes people free from fear and evil, if it is true religion.  But, if the religion Islam is weaker than Christianity and Judaism and Muslims feel fear and evil caused by Western powers and Israelis, can it be justified that Muslims opt to have despotic governments to fight out Christians and Judaists while sacrificing some freedom?

If so, as long as there are stronger Christian Western powers and Israel suppressing or abusing Islamic nations, they might be allowed to have authoritarian regimes in Libya, Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, etc.  It might be necessary for Muslims so as not to be put under control of Christians and Judaists.

But can they eventually realize free society like Japan after WWII?

How to Help Old and Poor People

There is a movie made in Japan in the middle of 1970s.

The leading character called Tora-san, a kind of care-free vendor, met a half-drunken old man who had no money in a noodle shop annexed to a station in a Tokyo downtown.  As a waitress treated him badly and intended to calｌ the police for bilking on a restaurant bill, Tora-san having a humble meal there stood up.  He gave her a little lecture about humanity and paid a charge for him.  After the incident, they drank together and became friends.  Tora-san even took the drunken old man to his home, which was in fact a rice dumpling shop his uncle ran.

Later the old man was found to be a famous Japanese-style painter.


Apart from a story of the movie, there are some old and poor men who have nobody to rely on and no jobs.  If they could not receive social welfare, they would rather eat in a restaurant to be arrested and sent to a prison, especially when their physical conditions don't allow them to survive on streets as homeless men.  And when they are released from prisons, in most cases they have not enough money.  They will repeat this cycle from a street to a prison.

So, the public administration in Japan is taking some measures to support old discharged prisoners.  Public experts in this field provide them with consultation, help them receive any social welfare, and find jobs for them.

According to statistics in Japan, a recidivism rate of old men is more than 70%.  It means seven of ten old men arrested for shop theft and the like repeat similar crimes.　Recently, the number of those who are 65 years old or older and arrested by the police is more than 46,000, and the number of those, 65 years old or older, put in prisons is 2,200.  (The population of Japan is about 120 million.)  And many of these old inmates need a nursing care in prisons.    　


In the world, there must be more tragic statistics.  But, in Japan, the more the society is matured economically and technologically, the more old men lose connections to families and society.

The advancement of civilization without love does not mean an increase in a number of simple but humane guys like Tora-san.

NHK, the Japanese public broadcaster, televised a documentary on plights of foreign workers in South Korea.

South Korea puts in practice a system to invite foreign workers as a kind of cheap labor force to work in small and medium-sized businesses at low wages.  South Korea's major enterprises such as Samsung use many subcontractors that are requested to cut costs for benefits of those major companies at the time of  a recession.  To fulfill this requirement, minor companies need foreign workers who work at low costs and can be fired easily.

To facilitate this scheme, the S. Korean Government introduced the system where S. Korea asks other Asian nations to provide lists of young people who want to work in S. Korea.  And, the S. Korea Government presents the lists to minor companies that choose individuals they want to hire.  The S. Korea Government initially boasted that under this system foreign workers can enjoy the same right as that enjoyed by S. Korean workers.  Believing their words, the United Nations officially praised this system.  But it turned to be a system to exploit foreign workers and neglect their human rights.  Even the Amnesty International has blamed S. Korea for this system with full of defects such as restriction of freedom of foreign workers to quit a job and find another at their will.

In Japan, there is a similar system.  But the Japanese Government regards those foreign workers not as regular workers but as on-the-job foreign trainees.  And, since 1990s, many small and medium-sized businesses of Japan opted to transfer their factories to China and other Asian nations rather than simply accepting trainees from foreign countries.

The number of on-the-job foreign trainees in Japan is about 150,000 (though there are 170,000 Japanese Brazilians who work in factories in Japan under a special system applied to Brazilians with Japanese ancestors).  But the number of foreign workers in S. Korea is more than 700,000.

Even in Japan sometimes it becomes news that some bad employer exploits on-the-job foreign trainees.  The Japanese Government is reluctant to strictly regulate this labor issue, but  public administration and the judiciary system will interfere to correct bad labor management of problem companies.  But, in S. Korea, the Government supports problem companies in order to ultimately facilitate profits making of major companies that use those problem companies.

S. Korea businesses enjoyed a merit of its weak currency till recently.  Their exporting companies had competitive edges against Japanese businesses as the Japanese yen had been appreciated so high for years.   But since the Bank of Japan started to provide a huge amount of yen to the market through purchase of government bonds in bulk from the market a few years ago, the yen became weak.  The Korean won became strong relatively.  As a result, Korean export declined.  In August of this year, exports of Korea declined by minus 14% year on year.  Accordingly, major enterprises of S. Korea requests cost cutback to their contract companies and subcontractors.  Consequently, these minor companies stop paying full wages to foreign workers, fire them without full compensations, or force them to work for longer hours without additional pay.    

Today, East Asia is regarded as prosperous as the EU, but the situations in Japan, Taiwan, China, and S. Korea are not necessarily rosy as emphasized by the working and living conditions of foreign workers in S. Korea.  (It is interesting that China has no such a large number of foreign workers, since it has hundreds of millions of poor farmers who can provide cheap labor force for domestic businesses.)

The largest motivation of businesses for their operation is profit making and money making.  Accordingly, problems such as one above stated cannot be eradicated.

But if we obey the word of God and Christ Jesus honestly, we have to formulate a law that forbids businesses to make a profit by sacrificing human beings, namely workers, and especially foreign workers and on-the-job foreign trainees.

The Japanese version of the memoir of David Rockefeller is sold in two volumes, though in pocket edition.  I bought the first volume only.  But it is interesting enough, so that I may buy the second volume.  However, I don't like to make the super-rich man richer by my purchase of his books.

Some economists in Japan have judged that the growth rate of the Chinese economy is minus 3%.

It is because the most reliable indicator of the Chinese economy is its trade statistics and it showed that the Chinese trade decreased by 15% year on year.  This figure is the same as that observed in the US after the 2008 Financial Crisis, and at the time the US GDP dropped by 3%.  Accordingly, they have judged that the Chinese economy has shrank by 3% but has not increased by 6.9% as the Chinese Government announced.

The Chinese Government is not checked by its people.  There are no democratic systems in China.  No democratic parliament with openly elected representatives exists in China.  No Chinese ministers and elite bureaucrats have a duty to honestly answer questions in free press conferences or parliament sessions.  Rather, any newspapers, TV stations, and other media would be suppressed and attacked by the Chinese Government if they present any reports or comments against official policies or data presented by the Government.

There are stock markets and some financial forums in China.  But they are not rooted in democratic society.  The Chinese market is partially or mostly controlled by the Government that can boost market prices/indexes and exchange rates at will, if necessary.  They even once banned export of rare metals to Japan, the US, etc. for some political reason.

But the Western world seems to think that it is better than chaos, turmoils, or civil war in China.  As long as China can export cheap goods to Japan, the US. the EU, and other global markets, and in return import many products from, and invest big money in, those regions, they don't mind what figures the Chinese Government presents as an official GDP value or other economic data.

However, it is dangerous.  It might be regarded as a great experiment of big economy without support from democracy.  But, it is too risky to the global economy.

For example, even Nazi Germany succeeded in its economic policies before WWII.  Even Germans were at the time practicing democratic processes in their politics.  But China has no such processes.

We may as well regard China of today as another Nazi Germany.

The other day, I saw a dead crow on a vehicle road around a corner of a point of intersection.

It is very rare for pedestrians around Tokyo to spot a dead crow on a street with so many cars running so busily.  It must be a warning from Heaven.

Maybe the third world war might soon start around the Middle East and Ukraine as well as around the South China Sea.  It is because mysterious air plane incidents of MH370, MH17, and Germanwings flight 9525 all look like foretelling the tragedies and danger in the South China Sea, Germany/France, and Ukraine/Russia, involving Muslims.

Indeed as the world cannot save people living in Gaza and those traveling from Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan to the EU, mankind would not be able to prevent an outbreak of another World War.


By the way, don't Americans see the will of God in the history, since they don't like to see stories in the human history but only facts and data?

The history of Buddhism in East Asia, including China, Korea, and Japan, is almost comparable with that of Christianity in Europe.

About 2,000 year ago, Buddhism reached a vicinity of the western territory of the then Chinese empire.  And then, taking several centuries, Buddhist creeds were translated from Sanskrit to Chinese.

Accordingly, Buddhist creeds Japanese monks read even today have a history comparable to that of the Christian Bible.

However, ancient Chinese accepted Buddhism first as another religion that would bring worldly fortune to them.  They worshiped the Buddha along with Chinese taoism saints.

Anyway you cannot deny a great influence of Buddhism in China, Korea, and Japan in these 2000 years.  East Asia is different from Africa.

It should be also noted that from a viewpoint of East Asia, Europe under the influence of Christianity and the Middle East under Islam look the West.  But India is half the West and half the East.  And East Asia, namely Japan, Taiwan, Korea, China, and Mongolia, is truly the East.

This view might help some people in the world understand the world better.

Osamu Tezuka (1928-1989) was 16 years old or so when WWII was approaching its end.

As the Empire of Japan was fighting desperate battles against the US, most of students were mobilized for work in factories to produce weapons and ammunition for the Imperial Army and Navy.  Young Tezuka was also forced to stop studying in high school and work in a factory situated on the Yodo River in Osaka City.

One day he happened to be on a factory chimney for some task and thought that he had to watch the sky to alert workers in case that B29 bombers came to attack Osaka.  The big Yodo River could be a good landmark for American pilots.  So, workers were on alert to prepare for possible air raids on them.

And finally, the time came.  Scores of B29s came to drop incendiary bombs on an industrial zone of Osaka where the factory was included.  Tezuka saw a big flying formation of American bombers.  A manager of the factory called to Tezuka, "Come down and hide in a bomb shelter!"  But Tezuka thought that it was too late, as now American bombers started to drop bombs.

Like a rain, incendiary bombs were falling around Tezuka who was holding fast an iron ladder attached to the big chimney.  Tezuka saw buildings of the factory being bombed and burning.  He thought that now he was going to die.  But he did not.

He finally got out of the factory after the air raid.  He wanted to go back home as he observed so many dead bodies in the factory premises.  But, the railway line running from a station near the factory to his home town stopped a service.  He had to walk on tracks along rails for 20km or so.  He got very hungry when he came halfway around a town called Toyonaka.

Tezuka dared to get into a house along a track to ask a family for foods.  A housewife kindly gave him three big rice balls.  Young Tezuka was relieved.  Finally he reached his home.  But weeks or so later after another air raid on Osaka, a residential area in Toyonaka was bombed.  And, Tezuka saw the house where he had been helped having been destroyed from a window of a train that was operated again.

Then a few months passed.  One hot day, Tezuka did not feel like going to work in the factory.  He stayed at home, drawing manga cartoons.  He had already created 2,000 pages or so manga in those years.  While he was absorbed in drawing a manga work, it came to noon.  But, he felt something strange.

It was too silent.  Even birds were not tweeting.  He could hear no sounds of cars and passers-by around his home in Takarazuka Town.  He just checked the neighborhood to find nothing moving.  When evening came, he went out of the house to go to the nearby station.  He got on the train, but passengers were rare.  Most of the seats were empty.  It was a time when people went back home from work places.  But the virtually-empty train was running toward a terminal station in Osaka City.

Tezuka heard some passengers in the train speaking something like "The war was over!"  He could not understand it.  Like most of Japanese youths at the time, young Tezuka believed that the Empire would eventually defeat the US.  But, people were talking as if the Empire of Japan had been defeated.

He did not get off the train till the terminal station in Umeda, one of major commercial areas of Osaka City.  The Umeda station was damaged by air raids, looking like a structure made of only iron frames.  But Tezuka realized that the station was lit by electricity.  Lights were on around the station.  Even big chandeliers in the hall of a department sore were lit up.  Over a street he could see neon signs emitting red and green light.   Black out was over!  Light control was abolished! The was over!  Indeed it was August 15, 1945.

The greatest Japanese manga artist of Japan Osamu Tezuka later recalled that it had been the most wonderful moment in his life.

Osamu Tezuka created 700 manga and animation titles in his life, including Tetsuwan Atom (Astro Boy) and Jungle Emperor (Kimba the White Lion).  He is still respected in Japan as a kind of manga king.


Now, when wars in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan are completely over, we may see great artists rising from the devastated lands like Osamu Tezuka in Japan after WWII.

Yesterday, I saw three cars with the identical number on their license plates, 10-01.

Maybe a few hundreds cars were passing or coming to me.  And the three of them had the 10-01 in part of their license plates.  Can it be a kind of miracle?

Though it is very rate, sometimes three elements collide with one another at the same time.  And, we cannot believe of the occurrence of such a very rare case.

Once in decades, something wrong might happen on or in us.  We may encounter a fatal accident or fall into a serious disease.  If you are rich or poor, you must be under this law.

Put simply, we are also under such fatal conditions as well as under fate.

Your material and financial success in New York, London, or Tokyo is nothing compared with the power of such conditions and fate.

The fact that somebody was not born in Gaza, Syria, Iraq or Afghanistan surpasses the fact that he is rich in New York, London, or Tokyo, in terms of significance of power working on men.

When I bought a newspaper at a kiosk of a station, a saleswoman said, "Oh, the old man said that this newspaper had not been in the rack outside!"  She really looked surprised.

In the Mainichi shimbun newspaper, I found a report about a fisherman family who is today the only one specializing in catching deep-water fish in Suruga Bay, 120 km west of Tokyo.

Suruga Bay is unique in that it has a depth of 2,500 meters, at its deepest point.  There are no other bays, close to the land in Japan or the world, that have such a deep sea-bed.  Once many fishermen took deep-water fish in the bay.  But now there is only one family engaged in the trade.

The four continental plates (the Philippine sea plate, the Pacific plate, the Eurasia plate, and the North America plate) meet around Suruga Bay and adjacent Sagami Bay, resulting in probably the generation of Mt. Fuji.

Maybe the next time, a big undersea earthquake might occur around Suruga Bay.

An African woman was telling that her husband was killed and she was violated.

I was watching the TV, thinking how dangerous Africa was.  Africa produced mankind, but it did not allow Africans to build a mighty material civilization.  Africa had been existent waiting for Europeans to come and exploit them, according to history.

What is worse, there are big natural barriers between Africa and the outer world.  There are the Sahara desert (except a narrow path along the Nile) and the Red Sea.  The Indian Ocean doesn't look so easy to sail on.  Africans have not been closely connected with the Eurasia Continent.

However Egyptians frequently traveled to Palestine, and tribes living as far as in Mesopotamia often moved to Egypt even in ancient days.  Africa is connected to the Eurasia Continent though Egypt and Palestine.  (It is said that groups of human beings left Africa through the Red Sea 120,000 years ago and through Palestine 60,000 years ago.)  And, roughly speaking Palestine is the dividing area between Europe and Asia. In this context Palestine is the center of the world, since America could be regarded as a big island west of Europe.

The fact that Christ Jesus, the Son of God, appeared in Palestine 2000 years ago is so significant.  He was born, as a man, in the center of the world.  (For this purpose, it seems that God ordered Abraham to leave Mesopotamia and move to Palestine and set up his descendants as Judaists that became a vessel of the true religion.)  It means that Christ Jesus would reign over or take care of all the world, Africa, Europe and Asia.

Indeed, whenever we watch the world map, we cannot miss Africa so close to Palestine or Jerusalem.  It is as close to Palestine or Jerusalem, the place strongly related to Christ Jesus, as Europe and Asia are.

The world essentially consists of Africa, Europe, and Asia (America may be regraded as an extension of Europe).  And at the center or the connecting point, there is Palestine where Christ Jesus appeared as a man 2000 years ago.

That is why we have to admit that we are living, all through the history, in the world set up by God.

The Truth of Jesus' Act in the Temple

One famous scene in the Gospels is that Christ Jesus turned over merchant tables in the Temple, exercising his human physical strength.

Some movies about Christ Jesus or the Bible depict this scene somewhat violently.  Christ Jesus looks like a crazy man in these works.  But is that true?

Mar 11:12 And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry:
Mar 11:13 And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.
Mar 11:14 And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.
Mar 11:15 And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;
Mar 11:16 And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple.
Mar 11:17 And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.
Mar 11:18 And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine.

From a human point of view, it is rather understandable.  First, Christ Jesus was hungry.  He found a fig tree and wanted to eat figs, but there were no figs in the tree.  While He was hungry, He entered the temple to encounter servants of Satan selling and buying goods.  He seems to have got angry extremely.  Maybe due to His hunger, He lost His temper.  He took action with violent force, which is, however, not fit for a saint to do.  And after having quieted down, Christ Jesus preached to people, blaming those merchants.  Dangerously, the scribes and chief priests were hearing the word of Christ Jesus to be afraid of Hims so much as his teaching appealed to people so strongly.  They must have finally come to decide to arrest and execute Christ Jesus.
 
If Christ Jesus had been an ordinary person, we may as well support the above view.  But He was neither an ordinary person nor an ordinary saint.  Christ Jesus was the Son of God.  We have to change our view on this scene.

God set the course of Christ Jesus to the Crucifixion.  It directly started from the scene of the fig tree through the scene of the temple with Christ Jesus expelling sinful merchants. Causal laws should work, leading to the Crucifixion: violence vs. violence.

But why did God set such a course?  Probably Satan told the God, "Take out super natural power and heavenly might from Christ Jesus, and then we can see how powerless and foolish He will be.  Christ Jesus has nothing great except the power you gave to Him.  So, turn Him to a plain man without holy power!"  God probably said, "We may see as you want."

That is why Christ Jesus got hungry and wanted to pick a fig from a tree that Satan had planted so that it could not offer any figs to Christ Jesus.  Accordingly, the nature of Him as a man drove him to the violent action in the temple.  He could not even take enough caution against his enemies who were listening to His word on site.  Indeed, Christ Jesus was acting like an ordinary man but not a great saint, since God had taken away His super power.  

Accordingly, Satan succeeded in killing Christ Jesus on the cross.  But finally God wan, as Christ Jesus resurrected three days after the death of the ordinary man in Christ Jesus.

Soseki Natsume (1867-1916) is the most respected author in the modern era of Japan.

One of his novels, titled Ko-jin (meaning one in a spiritual training), depicts a man with modern intelligence and a higher educational background in the Meiji era of Japan (when Japan started its modernization and Westernization).  But the protagonist suffers from his lack of emotional ability to understand his wife.  The modern Japanese intelligentsia must have looked so biased to the eyes of Soseki.

In this book, he referred to one tale of Islam:
One day Muhammad said to his followers and fellowmen, "I will move the mountain."  Then he faced a mountain far and prayed.  Everybody was watching Muhammad and the mountain.  But, nothing happened.  Finally, Muhammad said, "Well, I will walk to the mountain!"  And everybody followed him.

This tale was introduced in a scene where the suffering intellectual man was talking with his friend who wanted to know the man's state of the mind, thus referring to religion.

Religion cannot be judged with the worldly sense, and a religious man cannot be measured according to worldly criteria.  No matter how absurd a deed or an act of a saint looks, believers can find any sacred meaning in it.

When a saint says, "I will move the mountain," it is a right thing to say so.  When the mountain does not move, it is also a right thing.  And, when a saint starts to walk to the mountain, it is also a very right thing.

However, Christ Jesus said, "If you have any small faith, you can move a mountain."  So, you have to admit that your faith is still too small to move a mountain.

Otherwise, decades later after the death on the cross of Christ Jesus, the Temple of Jerusalem was destroyed by Roman troops and Judaists started to wander in the world.  Their religious center moved from the Temple to the holy books.

In Japanese, the head temple is called Hon-zan, which literally means the original or root mountain.

When Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 disappeared over the Indian Ocean after it changed its course on the South China Sea on 8 March 2014, the world was not so dangerous.

But when Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 was shot down by a missile over Ukraine on 17 July 2014, the world was getting dangerous with annexation of the Crimean Peninsula by Russia in March 2014.

And then Germanwings Flight 9525 crashed in France due to a suicidal mad act of a German pilot on 24 March 2015. The world looked no more so peaceful.

When the MH370 accident occurred, nobody thought it was an ill omen.  Juts a very rare and strange thing happened in a busy air route connecting Southeast Asia and China.  But, when MH17 accident happened in the sky of east Ukraine where pro-Russian rebels were fighting the Ukraine Government troops, some people came to feel something like a warning from Heaven.  And finally, a mad, young German pilot pulled other 149 passengers and crews into the fatal crash, so that many people must have come to believe that God was telling them something terrible.


The mysterious MH370 incident started over the South China Sea.  And in the Sea, China has been building military bases on artificial islands or atolls fortified, claiming its groundless and unreasonable sovereignty over the sea areas around those islands and atolls.  It is an act of true invasion of sea territories of the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, etc.  It is one of the most dangerous acts of nations in East Asia after WWII.  It should rank with the war between the mainland China and Taiwan, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the war between China and Vietnam.

Put simply, the MH370 tragedy foretold the danger of China.

The tragic MH17 incident occurred in the middle of the conflict between pro-EU Ukrainians and pro-Russia ones or between Ukraine and Russia.  It simply confirmed the dangerous nature of the Russian Government, since it was apparent the Malaysian jet liner was shot down by a Russian missile.

Put simply, the MH17 tragedy reminded us of the danger of Russia.

The Germanwings Flight 9525 incident occurred when German responsibility was being intensified.  Due to the Greek Crisis, Germany was being tested as to its leadership and ability to lead Europe.  And, today, hundreds of thousands of Islamic refugees are trying to reach Germany as they could not live in war-torn Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.  What is worse, the German car maker VW was found to have been cheating regulators and authorities in terms of emission gas control.  The German ability to fulfill its responsibility is called into question.

Put simply, the Germanwings Flight 9525 tragedy has made Germany seen as a potential danger.

As Malaysia was an Islamic nation, we may as well assume that Islamic nations, China, Russia, and Germany will be key players in years ahead.  But prospects related to them are not rosy at all.

Pu simply, the Third World War could be triggered by some Islamic nations, China, Russia, and Germany, since we have had such ill omen in the sky on the globe.
