According to a Jewish story, when Noah built a big ship to save animals from a big flood and invited many and various kinds to the ship, there came a spirit of goodness.

But Noah stopped the spirit, saying, "You need a partner."  Then the spirit of goodness left Noah and again returned to Noah with a spirit of evil.  Noah accepted the pair finally.  Since then, goodness has been always accompanied by evil in the world after the great flood.

Rather, accordingly, we may imagine that when the God built a big ship to save living things from a big flood and invited many and various kinds, there came two men.  One named Adam had a wife named Eve, but another man had no wife.  So, the God stopped the lonely man and told to come with his partner.  The man left the God and again returned to the God with a virus, saying that Eve might give birth to children for Adam, but my virus could help them evolve by working on their DNA.  So, the God let the man and the virus into the ship.  Since then, the mankind has to be accompanied by viruses.   

In other words, human goodness has been refined and exalted through its fight against evil.  A good man can be further better and enrich content of his goodness by more understanding and fighting evil.

In addition, it is thought viruses have affected human genes through millions of years.

In this context, it cannot be Satan that has caused this corona-pandemic but rather the Angel of Death who follows the order of the God to punish the mankind who have built this rotten and corrupt material civilization.

What's more horrible, there is a possibility that new viruses might appear with the ability to change our genes without causing our suspicion.  One day, we may find that people around us have different genes and accordingly change their physical properties for good or bad.  And, in the worst case, the mankind go extinct due to the new genes implanted into DNA by viruses.

However, there is no assurance that the mankind can still go on in the world without viruses.

Probably, the ancient Jewish people must have thought that to let goodness and virtue live and develop, we have to always watch, observe, and learn from evil.

Nonetheless, when Christ Jesus was betrayed and executed, the role of evil should have been manifested, since the incident resulted in establishment of Christianity.

So, accordingly, we may imagine that when Noah built a big ship to save animals from a big flood and invited many and various kinds to the ship, there came a man to be the ancestor of American Republicans.  But Noah stopped the man, saying, "You need a partner."  Then the man left Noah and again returned to Noah with a woman to be the ancestor of American Democrats.  Since then, Republicans have been always accompanied by Democrats after the great flood in America to date.

There is one short story written by a Japanese past famous writer, Ryunosuke Akutagawa in 1918, namely a century ago when the Spanish flu was spreading, which is known to most of the Japanese, as it was originally written for children and thus has been introduced in Japanese text books over decades:

One day, the Buddha watched down Hell from a clear pond of Paradise to find a particular sinner suffering in a pool of blood.  The Buddha wanted to save the sinner since he once saved life of a spider under his foot without crushing it, though based on vagrant compassion.  So, the Buddha took the silvery thread of a spider in Paradise and lowered it down into Hell.  The sinner found the thread coming down from shining Paradise and started to climb it up.  But when he found that other sinners in Hell were following him and climbing up the same thread of the spider, he feared that the thread would be cut off due to the weight of all the sinners climbing.  So he shouted down to the following sinners to stop climbing: "This is my thread, only mine!"  At the moment the thread was cut off above the sinner, and all the sinners fell down to Hell.  The Buddha felt a little sadness but walked away from the clear pond of Paradise. 

It was thought that this story could be used as a lesson teaching Children not to be selfish and help and save one another, although the author Akutagawa was a more sophisticated person who later committed a suicide. 

But, some Japanese thought that a thread of a spider would be naturally cut off due to its own weight if it extends too long.

The density of spider's thread is 1.28 g/cm^3; the strength is 20,000 kg/cm^2.  By dividing the strength by the density, it is found that the specific strength is 156 km (about 100 kilo-miles), which means that the thread would be naturally cut off if the distance between Heaven and Hell is 156 km or more without a sinner climbing it up.  Therefore, it is concluded that the distance between Paradise and Hell is less than 156 km if gravity in the space works in the same manner as on the ground.

However, the aim of the story is not to have readers calculate the distance between Heaven or Paradise and Hell.

One day, the Buddha watched down Hell, which is this world.  And, he lowered a thread of something for people to be saved.  But as the Buddha found that people were infected by viruses, he cut it off to prevent viruses from invading Paradise.  So, a disciple of the Buddha in Paradise asked why the Great Mater would not save infected people.  The Buddha said, "If it is corona-viruses that have infected them, I would save them.  But those viruses that have infected people have DNA of Satan who is trying to contaminate Paradise."  "Great is our Sacred Master!" shouted the  disciple of the Buddha.  "The Holy Buddha keeps our Paradise always clean!" 

This humble story tells that those who have immunity against DNA of Satan should be allowed to enter into and live in Heaven with Christ Jesus.

Just to make sure, Akutagawa also wrote some short stories related to Christianity.

How to Run away from One's Shadow

In a Japanese book (a collection of various stories) written 800 years ago, there is a story about Confucius, a great teacher and philosopher who lived in the warring States period of China 2500 years ago.

When Confucius and his disciples were playing music on the bank of a river, an old man came by boat.  When the music ended, the old man asked one of Confucius' disciples who the leader was: "Is he a king, a minister, or any  exalted personage?"  The disciple answered, "It is our master traveling the world to teach kings, ministers, and people about politics, philosophy, courtesy, ethics, etc."

Then, the old man said, "Oh, what a waste of life!  It is like a man running around trying to flee from his own shadow.  If you want to flee from your own shadow, you should sit in a shady area."  

As the old man left the place, getting on board, the disciple went back to Confucius and told him what the old man had said.  Then, Confucius said, "He is a great man.  Go and summon him back."  But, there was no sight of the boat and the old man. 

Confucius was known, of course, as a representative Confucianist, in Japan from old days.  His teaching was well known and studied in Japan, since Analects of Confucius was imported into Japan around the 4th century.  His Confucianism respected culture and religion of older Chinese dynasties.  Confucius thought that as old dynasties had gone and whole China got into the warring States period, ancient courtesy and ethics were lost as with the music for rites and festivals. 

I think that this story about Confucius and the old man was created in Japan 800 years ago when Buddhism was popular among Japanese noble people, ruling samurais, and ordinary people.

Confucius taught how men should live decently.  Buddha taught how men should abandon their life gracefully.  It may be wiser to leave unclean society and find oneself for a man to get true satisfaction and achieve true salvation of his soul, since human world cannot be the Pure Land.

Yet, Christ Jesus said that the Kingdom of God could come to those who heard words of the God and acted accordingly.

In this context, it is interesting to think what stories should have been created if Christianity had reached Japan 800 years ago. 

Nonetheless, it is also interesting to think that a man cannot run away from his shadow (sins) even if he could improve the unclean society (which forces him to commit sins).

Viruses without Minds without Mentioning Spirits

Jewish tradition provides a clear idea that a man is made of the body and a spirit.  Accordingly, Jewish people believe in the God, which was exemplified by Christ Jesus.  But it is Christians who believe in the God due to Christ Jesus.

Even most of no Jewish people or no Christians believe that a man is made of the body and the mind.  Further those who deny it use their minds to deny it.  And their minds are under control of their spirits given by the God.

For example, Buddhists never mind who gave a spirit and the mind to a man or how they were generated.  The Buddha was the greatest master in this world and the spiritual world but not the creator of them.  However, as men's spirits are saved in this world and the spiritual world by believing Buddha's teaching, Buddhists are content with their religion without feeling a need to think about the creator of this world and the spiritual world.

Anyway, everybody should agree that a man is made of the material body that can be seen and the mind under control of a spirit that cannot be seen.  Without the living body, the mind cannot be alive.  And without control of a spirit, the mind cannot be integrated.

Science tells us that our mind is a phenomenon of work (mostly electric) of brain cells that constitute networks through their connection extending to autonomous nerves that affect every cell in the body.  However, the brain work based on work of brain cells (mostly electric, though very minute) cannot be so integrated that the brain generates self-consciousness and various deeply-abstract concepts including those related to the spiritual world, Heaven, the hell, Satan, and the God.

It should be thought that work of a spirit on the mind and subordinate work of the mind on the body can be somewhat observed through work of electrical current in the brain but not that electrical current in the brain or between brain cells is not the sole source of the mind and a spirit.

In other words, the mind can be generated in the brain of the body and its work can be observed through minute electrical current but the mind needs a spirit to work in an integrated manner.

In this context, a living cell must also use very minute electrical current to live and control its life, even though the work of its electrical current cannot be called the mind.  A multicellular organism further develops a network of this electrical current connecting each cell to harmonize all the cells, even though the work of the network cannot be called the mind.  However, along with evolution, it constitutes nerve systems from such networks of electrical current running through cells.  And finally, it constitutes the brain of higher organisms such as a man to generate a phenomenon of work of the brain to be called the mind.  And, the God sends a spirit to each mind to control it.

Every living thing is based on DNA and genes.  Every cell of a living thing has genes and DNA that decide the basic structure enabling establishment of networks of electrical current through its cells.

Viruses have also genes and DNA (the mother body of genes) or RNA (a mechanism to realize to gene information).  Although viruses need materials in human cells to replicate themselves based on their genes, viruses can be regarded as a special type of living things.  Therefore, they have their own networks of electrical current as a kind of a nerve system of multicellular organisms.  So, a medicine to suppress work of a virus must work on this electrical current network to stop its living activity through chemical reactions.

Maybe the best immune system against viruses should be realized by the specific genes and DNA in human cells that generate special electrical current within cells against invading viruses to disturb and suppress internal work (very primitive ultra-minute nerve system) of viruses.  And to activate such genes, we should concentrate work of the mind so that specific electrical current runs through brain calls, their networks, and further nerve systems to each cell.  

Anyway, fortunately to us, a virus has its body but only a very primitive ultra-minute nerve system (at a level of molecules) that cannot be even called a mind without mentioning a spirit.  Viruses cannot rule human cells that can be ultimately controlled by spirits coming from the spiritual world.

Killing One Man Means Killing Sacred Genes and DNA

There is a basic Jewish notion about murder or the death penalty: the mankind started with one man, so that killing a man even today is tantamount to killing the whole mankind.

Probably millions years ago, one of anthropoid apes before split between primitive men and ancestors of chimpanzee, etc. started to walk the path of evolution to Homo sapiens.  His family members and relatives must have followed him to form a group of primates to be called the mankind later.  He must be called biological Adam.  The core of this assumed history is that the mankind started with one anthropoid ape.   And if this Adam had happened to be killed by other animals, the mankind of today should not exist.

To commemorate this historic incident, the mankind should not kill any single man even today.  This is a basic concept.

Therefore, it is natural to assume that the mankind who believe in the one God as the sole creator of the world and the universe started with one man called Abraham.  Indeed, if Abraham had been killed in Urk or any place before arriving at Palestine about 4,000 years ago, no Jewish people, Christians, and Muslims exist today.   

In this context, it must be forbidden to kill any man in the areas covering ancient Mesopotamia and Palestine even today.

All the seeds must have the same genes and DNA like every man has.  But it depends on conditions where seeds fall that any seed can produce 30, 60, or 100 times fruits.  Truly, it depends on internal and external conditions that any man having the same genes and DNA as those of others can produce spiritual or material fruits.  Based on this acknowledgment, killing one man should be regarded as killing some part of future generations of men.

What's more, at the current level of science, the mankind still cannot create all the genes and DNA commonly shared by them.  It implies that it might be a grave sin for the mankind to kill another member of the mankind, since it means to destroy human genes and DNA that should be regarded as great gifts from the God.

From this point of view, human life is sacred since it is based on human genes and DNA to be regarded as great gifts from the God, which should include the genes and DNA of the biological Adam who lived millions of years ago and took the first step toward the mankind of today leaving other primates.

In this context, it can be understood why the God allowed corona-viruses to attack the mankind, as if punishment, after decades of bloody wars, civil wars, terrors, etc. around the areas covering ancient Mesopotamia and Palestine.  Only the God can take life away from men legitimately.

According to wisdom of Jewish people, there are four types of human beings.

First, there is a type of those who think what they have is theirs and what others have is others'.  The second type is of those who think that what they have is others' and what others have is theirs.  The third type thinks what they have is others' and what others have is others'.  The fourth-type people think that what they have is theirs and what others have is also theirs.

The first type is of mediocre or narrow-minded people.  The second type is of those who are somewhat out of normalcy and soundness or, in other word, strange or mad.  The third type is of those who are extremely ascetic or otherwise misguided.  The fourth type is of those who are reckless, greed or evil.

When "others" in these expressions are replaced by the word "God," the context might a little change.

First, there is a type of those who think what they have is theirs and what God has is God's.  The second type is of those who think that what they have is God's and what God has is theirs.  The third type thinks what they have is God's and what God has is God's.  The fourth-type people think that what they have is theirs and what God has is also theirs.

But, logically, scientifically, and religiously, what a man has is God's and what God has is God's, since every thing a man can have materially is made of atoms, elemental particles, or energy convertible to elemental particles or material while they all under laws of the nature created and set by the God.

The key in this analysis is the notion that nothing is ours and everything is God's.  But if "what they have" in these expression are replaced with "money," the truth can be more clearly understood.

First, there is a type of those who think money they have is theirs and money God has is God's.  The second type is of those who think that money they have is God's and money God has is theirs.  The third type thinks money they have is God's and money God has is God's.  The fourth-type people think that money they have is theirs and money God has is also theirs.

Put extremely, a man tends to think that all money whoever has must be his own.  In the case, he will not mind if "whoever" includes the God or he would include the God in "whoever." 

However, from the beginning, we should ask if the God has any money or if all money belongs to Satan.  Yet, put extremely, a man tends to want money if money is created, distributed and governed by Satan.

At least, according to the Bible, we should not have more than 30 silver coins.  God might have created 29 silver coins, but it must be Satan that created the 30th silver coin. 

Finally, it is safe for us to try to be ascetic even if misguided rather than narrow-minded, mad, or evil.

A corona-virus has the diameter of about 80 to 220 nm (10^-9 meters).  So, in a cubic feet, one million times one trillion (10^18) viruses can be put.

On the other hand, the size of a human cell is about 20 micro-meters, which is 100 times larger than the virus.

As the time goes by, with development of science, someday the mankind might be able to create a robot of the size of a virus or a human cell.  This minute robot designed to fight and kill viruses would save the mankind from viruses.

Regrettably, at the present time, the mankind can only create medicines based on chemical formula and experimental data to combat viruses and consequent diseases.

So, how many years should pass till the mankind can create this anti-virus minute robot that can be taken into the human body like a medicine?

At present, the smallest engine the men has ever made has the diameter of 0.06 micro-meters or the size of one thousandth of the diameter a human hair, which was created by the University of Cambridge.  So, in decades, we may be able to create anti-virus minute robot that can get inside the human body, flow in the blood, and find, fight, and kill viruses.

But, as viruses can be biological weapons, this type of new robots can be also used as weapons.  The mankind may be saved from viruses and pandemics, but must face a new threat of virus-size robots as weapons.

The competition among nations must not only be restricted in the space, the moon, or the mars, but also be widened and deepened to the virus world. 

Indeed, for true development of science and technology, we need faith in God.

There is a theory that anything that has ever happened in this universe can happen again.

The fact that a certain event has ever occurred means that the possibility of occurrence of the event is not zero.  And situations around the event can be given a relevant trial for them to realize the event again infinite times.

So, no matter how small the probability is, it can happen again in infinite trials in the situations, since any number multiplied by infinite can be greater 2, 3, or more.

However, in reality, this whole university is finite at any moment and the time that can elapse in this university has not be proven to be infinite (specifically it is said to be less than 14 billion years since the emergence of this university). 

For example, it is said the the total number of human beings who have ever been born is about 600 billion (6 x 10^11) in past 2 million years, according to a certain calculation (on the assumption that 5 million people lived 10,000 years ago in the earth; http://www.kijo-riron.com/ronbun/2003/ningensousu.html).  

But only one man is the Son of the God.  The probability that the Son of the God is born among human beings is about 1/(10^12), which is 0.000000000001 but not zero, in terms of the number of human beings.  But, the establishment of one man must be a result of some complicated trials in the nature and spirit.  It means that one Son of God can appear once in 600 billion multiplied by the numbers of certain trials (such as recombination of DNA, mutation of genes, etc.) related to establishment of a man. 

So far as now, factors that enable emergence of the Son of God have not had power equivalent to far more than these past 600 billion plus trials.  Therefore we have only one Son of the God.

But when some critical factors come to have power equivalent to more than 600 billion plus times of those past trials, there should be the Second Coming of Christ Jesus.  

In this context, if the total prayers and religious actions of Christians come to have power equivalent to more than 600 billion plus trials of those past factors, the Second Coming of Christ Jesus might be realized. 

It might mean that all the present people, about 7 billion, must live each at least 100 times more pious and religious life than each of the past men had, on the assumption that such pious living accelerates the probability of emergence of the Son of the God among the mankind.  

From a different point of view, as Christ Jesus appeared 2,000 years after Abraham, we might see the Second Coming of Christ Jesus sooner or later in the 21st century, since 2,000 years have passed since the First Coming of Christ Jesus.  Time in the history might have more power than the mankind can have.

The current corona-pandemic and the 1918 Spanish-flu pandemic were caused by the same type of viruses, influenza A virus subtype H1N1 (A/H1N1).

In virology, influenza A virus subtype H1N1 (A/H1N1) is a subtype of Influenza A virus. Well known outbreaks of H1N1 strains in humans include the 2009 swine flu pandemic, as well as the 1918 flu pandemic... 

Some strains of H1N1 are endemic in humans and cause a small fraction of all influenza-like illness and a small fraction of all seasonal influenza, for instance in 2004–2005. Other strains of H1N1 are endemic in pigs (swine influenza) and in birds (avian influenza). Its size is 80 to 120 nm in diameter...

However, how the 1918 Spanish-flu pandemic was generated is not yet fully understood.  Some argue that the epicenter was a British military post in France in WWI; others claim that it started in State of Kansas, USA; or part of the rest stress that about 100,000 Chinese laborers mobilized by the UK and France in WWI brought the Spanish-flu viruses to Europe.

Interestingly 17 million people died in India due to the 1918 Spanish-flu pandemic, which accounted for 40% of global deaths due to the pandemic.  In WWI, India joined the UK in WWI as a British colony, sending Indian soldiers to Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.  When these Indian soldiers went back to India after WWI, India came to suffer the pandemic.

No matter where the 1918 Spanish-flu pandemic was generated, it spread globally due to the massive movement of Chinese and Indians that had been promoted by development and intensification of the Industrial Revolution started in the UK before the start of the 19th century.  The early modern and large-scale globalization of economy and culture in the early 20th century caused the global spread of the damage due to the pandemic.  The main players must be the British Empire as well as then its colony India in addition to China under threat of the Western colonial powers.

Now in the early 21st century, as economic globalization has entered into a new phase with economic success of Japan after WWII, subsequent success of China after Japan, and following success of India now independent from the UK due to WWII, the possibility of global spread of a new pandemic has increased and it actually has come true.  This time, the epicenter has been identified as Wuhan, China.  China has been actively and ambitiously pursing economic and political hegemony in the world since the start of the 21st century sending, every year, millions or more of tourists, business men, students, etc. to the U.S., Europe, and Japan in addition to other developing countries.  But, the U.S, and Western Europe are suffering far greater damage and infectious deaths of 400,000 or 40% of the global deaths (combined as of in the middle of October 2020) while China has reported only less than 5,000 deaths, which is dubious though, (Japan with less than 2,000 deaths). 

So, the current corona-pandemic and the 1918 Spanish-flu pandemic can be discussed and analyzed from the same point of view: the side effect of the globalization of economy and culture.  The 1918 Spanish-flu pandemic occurred while the world was experiencing the first modern globalization with the UK at its center, and the 2020 corona-pandemic has been spreading while the world is experiencing the second modern globalization with the U.S. and China at its core. 

But, in the 1918 Spanish-flu pandemic, the number of related global deaths surpassed the total number of war deaths in WWI.  This 2020 corona-pandemic might foretell the coming WWIII where biological weapons might be used although WWII ended with world's first nuclear weapons used by the U.S.

China, Islamic terrorists, Russian  militarists, etc. that are against Western democracy and freedom might secretly launch WWIII with unseen viruses or other disease germs.  In the 1918 Spanish-flu pandemic, it is estimated that 500 million people were infected and the number of deaths was 50 million or more.  If science made it possible to create more devastating biological weapons, damage would far surpass the level in the 1918 Spanish-flu pandemic.

In this context, how the U.S. and the world will suppress the spread of and damage from the current corona-pandemic is all the more important.  It must lead to prevention of WWIII.  As the Bible tells, WWIII must come at unexpected time in an unexpected manner, or its prelude might have already begun with the 2020 corona-viruses.  

The Revelation or the Apocalypse must not be included in the Bible for any other reason than real warning to the mankind living 2,000 years after the crucifixion of Christ Jesus.

A VIP Patient and an Old Decent Female Patient

A Japanese medical doctor specialized in terminal care who has seen death of a thousand people wrote a book on impressive cases of death in the hospital he has been working in.

One of the cases is about a person of weight in local business and politics.  Until his death, the VIP patient behaved in a reasonable manner as an influence.   Even when he had to see a famous politician coming from Tokyo to the city, he asked the doctor to give him steroid to suppress his difficulty in breathing so that he could go out of the hospital and properly respond to a political boss from Tokyo without showing his weakness.  The doctor judged that steroid was safe if given in a short time.  So, the VIP patient could perform his duty without seriousness of his disease being noticed by others.

Many executives and presidents of various local organizations and companies came to the hospital to see the VIP patient, but sometime the VIP patient gave reprimand to them in loud voices for some reasons, which could be heard by nurses outside the hospital room, so that nurses were impressed that the VIP man was still full of spirit although he was close to the end of life.  This attitude of the VIP patient never changed.  He did not even show his fear of death to the medical doctor.  And, in the middle of a kind of power struggle where the VIP patient won, he passed away surrounded by his entourages enjoying the victory but being embarrassed by the death of their boss.  The medical doctor thought that the VIP patient finally died without showing his personal weakness to anybody.

In another case, a 80-year old woman who was still infused with grace died in the hospital like a tree died with leaves falling.  She always expressed her appreciation to nurses, hospital visitors, etc.  The medical doctor thought that this old woman must have looked extremely beautiful when she was young, although she was not married but her younger sister and her younger sister's husband took care of her.  The old woman was liked by all in the hospital because of her amiablity, and said to the medical doctor one day that a tree finally lost all leaves and died with only its bare trunk left.  Indeed, several months later, she died rather peacefully.  

After her death, the doctor talked with her sister's husband as she created a very positive image as a patient at the terminal stage.  To the doctor praising her attitude always expressing her appreciation to people around her, the sister's husband said that his sister-in-law was stern with him.  She never had an overly sweet manner in facing relatives.  Yet, the medical doctor thought that the old woman died like a glorious tree.   

A man can be a social personality he has made up for himself even at the end of his life so as to protect himself.  But a woman may have enemies in her private world more often than a man.  In this context, a hidden female enemy might be more dangerous than explicit enemies in society. 

Even Christ Jesus had an enemy or a betrayer among His followers.  It must be a good luck that He was not betrayed by a female follower.

When He Lived as a Mere Son of Man

When a Japanese boy was seriously sick, he seriously thought that he might die.  But a female medical doctor gave him certain medical drugs that miraculously cured him.  The boy was so thrilled and got determined to be a medical doctor someday himself.

As time went by, the boy graduated from a medical school to become a physician.  But, what he saw in a university hospital was ugly sates of dying people.  While in movies or TV dramas, a dying man usually left impressive words to crying family members surrounding him.  But, reality was ugly.  Patients in their last weeks or days before death behaved in ugly manners without human dignity.  So, he decided to be an end-of-life expert.  He changed the hospital to work in to a hospital specialized in end-of-life care. 

Through various experiences, he found that steroid, when used at proper timing, worked well and stabilized symptomatic states of many patients in the end-of-life period, although guidelines told not to use it readily for old men.  

He also found that use of morphine (hydromorphone) was often rejected by old patients as wrong information prevailed that use of morphine led to intoxication or mental troubles.  But he reached a conviction that proper use of morphine helped relief of suffering of dying old patients.  He started to use morphine in the form of adhesive skin patches to confirm the effect.

So, the medical doctor saw hundreds of old men passing away.  He focused on applying medical care that gave less pains to dying patients.  If a patient is noticed that he or she is given, say, only half year to live, he thinks, medical service workers including a medical doctor should concentrate on making the patient feel less pain and keep quality of life rather than inserting an intravenous line to give unnecessary nutrition.

Within days before death, old dying patients sometimes develop delirium or psychotic disorders that take away human dignity from them and make family members sad.  So, the medical doctor thinks that it is reasonable that the mankind came to produce religion and develop the concept of Heaven and the God to cure themselves from extreme sadness they felt facing death of closest family members, friends, etc.   

However, Christ Jesus said that He was from the God and we were from this world.  And we could get to Heaven only through Christ Jesus.  

Probably human religions before Jesus had been not sufficient to save people, so that the God sent His Son to correct and enhance human religion.  Indeed, no matter what race a man is of or no matter what religion he believes in, a man dies within a maximum of 130 years.  Death is universal among the mankind, even for Christ Jesus when He lived as a mere son of man around Jerusalem.

If One Was Promised Eternal Life

A few decades ago, a publisher of a monthly magazine in Japan asked readers to post real stories (non-fiction) about death of their families, friends, and people around.  Most of their stories told peaceful sates of death of closest family members.     

Although Japan is not a Christian country, dying persons were not afraid of the hell but believed that they could enter the paradise, despite their fear of being dead.

An old dying woman told her grand son that death was not anything special but a natural event.  An old dying man told his daughter that it was the time to go; when she asked where to go, he replied that he was going to another world.  When a dying man said that he was afraid, his daughter said that there was no need to be afraid, although she was not so sure, and then her dying father got into a peaceful death.  In another case, an old father told in his dying bed to his crying family what should be prepared for his funeral in details and gave an alert to watch out and get cracking. 

There is influence of Buddhism among ordinary people in Japan.  Although most of them are not Christians and do not believe in the one God, the creator of the world, they do believe existence of anther world, the paradise or the Pure Land taught in Buddhism.

A certain reader even wrote that her dying father was entering into another world and coming back to this world for some time at his will while lying in his dying bed.  Her father told her that another world was so splendid that she should also come together now, but his daughter said that it was impossible since she was busy in this world.  Then, her father said that it was understood, and added: "Oh, I lost the key.  I cannot come back any more."  Accordingly, the old father was soon gone forever.  

Nowadays, about a million people die in Japan every year.   But only few people seem to worry about the Last Judgment or whether they can be admitted into Heaven.  Most of factions or schools of Japanese Buddhism teach that anybody who believes in the Buddha or Amitabha Buddha would be welcomed in the paradise or the Pure Land.  Some schools even tell that bad guys can be surely accepted in the paradise due to mercy of Amitabha Buddha, so all the more faithful people are welcomed in the paradise.  There is no strong sense of the Last Judgment by the God, but the Japanese common sense that "let the water carry it away" seems to prevail in the last stage of one's life.   

 

When one dies and goes into Heaven or the hell or another world, money, social status, and past worldly success become useless.  Only the relationship between oneself and the God, the Buddha, Amitabha Buddha, or Satan counts.  And such relationship cannot be bought by money even from Satan who would request one's soul for any wealth or success in this world.

Christ Jesus should not praise any dead man who has earned big money in this world.  But rich men should not be able to think of anything but money they can rely on even after death.  So, they must think that that they should earn money as much as possible, in case, for a need in another world if they think that it ever exists. 

In my personal view, it is most encouraging that the Bible or Christ Jesus tells that anybody believing Him and the God would be given eternal life.

But one of the most impressive stories about someone's death was reported by a nurse who wrote a book on her professional experiences.  A girl in an early elementary grade hospitalized for a specific illness, who friendly communicated with other elder patients of the same illness in the hospital, cried out to her doctor one day: "Please never let me die since others will become so sad, since I am the youngest among those patients."  The nurse wrote that the girl finally lost her life due to the fatal illness, but she lived well until death, which moved the nurse.

If one was promised eternal life, one might wish others their happiness and mind them more than one's own death like this Japanese little girl.

How a Man Survived a Crisis at 8,000 Meters

In 2013, Yuichiro Miura at his 80 stood on the top of Mt. Everest (with the height of 8,848 meters (29,029 ft)) for his third time but as the oldest man who accomplished this great feat.  But he had succeeded in reaching the summit of Mt. Everest in 2008 at his 75.  Even in 2003 Miura at 70 had stood on the top of Mt. Everest as the oldest man at the time together with his second-eldest son Gota.  But Miura is mostly known as the skier who skied down the slope of Mt. Everest from a 8,000 meter point as recorded in the 1975 film named The Man Who Skied Down Everest.  Yet, Miura's son might be a hero as a man who survived a crisis at 8,000 meters.

When Yuichiro was climbing up Mt. Everest in 2008 with his son Gota who accompanied Yuichiro for assistance in case, Gota suffered from altitude sickness at a point over 8,000 metes and was about to almost lose his life, but was narrowly saved by taking Decadron (dexamethasone) for himself, which he happed to carry with him as he had read the book "Last Breath" telling how a climber suffering altitude sickness was saved by taking Decadron. 

Gota went up to a 7500 meter level without oxygen as he had done so in 2003, but started to take about 2 liters of oxygen per minute when he passed a 8,000 meter level as with his old father.  After that, he felt discomfort and breathing difficulty.  Gota decided to go down with help from local guides, while his father Yuichiro continued ascending as he aimed at securing the honor as the oldest man who stood on the summit of Mt. Everest.  

A device that indicated oxygen saturation (SpO2) of Gota's arterial blood showed the value of 52% (normally 90%).  The oxygen bottle he was using showed 150 atmospheric pressure as the remaining pressure.  He tried to calculate how long oxygen could be taken from the bottle based on the formula of (amount of oxygen x remaining pressure) / (flow rate of oxygen per minute).  But his brain could not work.

To cure himself, Gota took an injection of Decadron by himself and started to take 4 liters per minute oxygen.  He called a medical doctor who stood by in Japan via a satellite phone from the slope of Mt. Everest and got advice to get another shot 2 hours later.  Then he continued descending to an intermediate camp while hearing a Japanese voice of someone importunately calling to him, "Don't rest.  Hurry up.  Go back to the camp!"  It is a kind of near-death experience.  With effect of Decadron and 4 liters of oxygen per minute, he finally survived.

Climbers who suffered cerebral edema at the altitude of 8,000 meters or above surely came to a miserable end.  But Gota could remarkably survive due to the mysterious voice, which made him forget a fear of death, persistently encouraging him to continue descending in addition to Decadron and 4 litters per minute oxygen.

This episode might be useful for patients suffering from corona viruses and needing artificial respirators.  Appropriate medicines such as Decadron, enough oxygen, and encouraging and comforting voices like one coming from one's father must save such patients.        

NOTE:  Decadron (dexamethasone) is a corticosteroid, similar to a natural hormone produced by the adrenal glands, used to treat arthritis, skin, blood, kidney, eye, thyroid, intestinal disorders, severe allergies, and asthma. Decadron is also used to treat certain types of cancer and occasionally, cerebral edema. The brand name Decadron is no longer available in the U.S; it may be available as a generic.
