Comparison with Chernobyl
The U.K. is on the opposite side to Japan over the Eurasia Continent.
However, there are no volcanoes, earthquakes, and tsunamis in Great Britain. The U.K. is a very monotonous and simple country compared with Japan. However, the Anglo-Saxons have prevailed in the world, especially, in Canada, the U.S., New Zealand, Australia, etc., enjoying the status of English as a global language.
The Japanese language is mostly spoken in Japan. Japanese people who immigrated into other countries do not usually transfer Japanese unique cultural aspects to their children born and raised in foreign countries. They are no more members of the Japanese Civilization.
Yet, the Japanese people have suffered from far more testing time than the Anglo-Saxons. And, the God has added one challenge on Japan recently: the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident that started on March 11, 2011. So, this is a very apocalyptic event for mankind.
Rev 3:11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.
Rev 20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
SECTION I: No Deaths in Fukushima Daiichi Accident
The big difference between the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident and Chernobyl's is that no accidental deaths from radiation have been reported in Fukushima Daiichi while many people lost their life in Chernobyl.
Chernobyl disaster
...
Thirty one deaths are directly attributed to the accident, all among the reactor staff and emergency workers.[9] A UNSCEAR report places the total confirmed deaths from radiation at 64 as of 2008. The World Health Organization (WHO) suggests it could reach 4,000.[10] A 2006 report predicted 30,000 to 60,000 cancer deaths as a result of Chernobyl fallout.[11] A Greenpeace report puts this figure at 200,000 or more.[12] A Russian publication, Chernobyl, concludes that 985,000 excess deaths occurred between 1986 and 2004 as a result of radioactive contamination.

Though there are four reactor units crippled in Fukushima Daiichi, Chernobyl had only one reactor blasted and broken.
As a phenomenon, the Chernobyl case was a momentary all-out explosion, spraying all the nuclear fuel inside the reactor. But, the Fukushima Daiichi case looks like a long, slow, and persistent leakage of radioactive material from the four reactor units each of which was damaged by hydrogen explosion or fire.
The process to recover from the disaster is also different. In Chernobyl, essentially it is work for cleanup but in Fukushima Daiichi it is efforts to put nuclear fuel and contaminated water under control while the fuel is generating heat and poured water for cooling is turning to be new contaminated water.
There were 3.6 tons of uranium in the blown-off reactor of Chernobyl, but there are total 24 tons of uranium (including spent uranium) at stake in the four damaged reactors of Fukushima Daiichi. So, it is one digit larger in terms of scale for Fukushima Daiichi. Difficulty in fixing this 2011 Japanese nuclear accident lies in this size.
SECTION II: One Year Accumulation of Radioactive Material
The forecast of accumulated radioactive effect around Fukushima Daiichi is as follows:

The red area is for more than 20 milli sieverts. The watery area is for 1 to 5 milli sieverts. (100 rem = 1 sievert.)
For reference, the number of deaths for received radioactive intensity in Chernobyl is as follows:
Clean-up Workers: 100 mSv; 200 died of leukemia, 2000 died of cancer (among 240,000).
Highly Polluted People: 50 mSv; 100 died of leukemia, 1500 died of cancer (among 270,000).
30-km Evacuees: 33 msV; 10 died of leukemia, 150 died of cancer (among 120,000).
Contaminated People: 10 mSv; 370 died of leukemia, 4600 died of cancer (among 5,000,000).

SECTION III: Tsunami Pictures at Fukushima Daiichi
Two months after the 3/11 Tsunami, Tokyo Electric Power Corporation finally made public pictures of tsunami rushing to the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear PLant.

Now in Japan, a big focus is on how long Prime Minister Mr. Naoto Kan can sustain his status as prime minister.
His approval rating is around 25%, despite the current crisis of Fukshima Daiichi, and the rating for the ruling party DPJ is in the downward trend as the opposition LDP gains more support from voters nowadays.
Yet, he has done one remarkable job: a halt of operation of the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Plant 200 km west of Tokyo. Maybe only for this bold action, he might be allowed to keep power so far, though he has not followed ordinary democratic procedures in requesting a utility company to stop generating electricity in Hamaoka.
Anyway, it is the conservative pro-American LDP that fostered the nuclear power industry in Japan since 1960 as it had been in power till the fall of 2009. So, the responsibility for the Fukshima Daiichi accident must be shared by the LDP and the DPJ.
As even the Emperor and Empress visited so many times the earthquake/tsunami affected areas to express sympathy to victims and evacuees in these weeks, the Japanese people have come to realize that the 3/11 Disaster is a real warning from Heaven.
Over this tragedy with 26,000 deaths and a drop of GDP by 3.7%, the Japanese people would learn a lesson that the God can unleash the destructive natural power at His will at any time, if it takes a form of a great tsunami that could happen only once in 1000 years.
But, what has been so wrong with Japan? Was Japan punished on March 11, 2011? Were the Japanese punished like Judaists in 1930's and 1940's? Indeed, the history belongs to the God. We mankind live for the God and the history eventually.
So, in 2004 Indonesia was hit; in 2008 China was hit; in 2010 Haiti was hit; and in 2011 Christchurch, New Zealand, was hit, though Chile miners were all saved in 2010. Truly, the history belongs to the God. We mankind live for the God and the history eventually.
And, EEE Reporter has survived the 3/11 Disaster, just to make sure...
Joh 5:19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
Joh 5:20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.
