"when even was come" - The First and Greatest Commandment

Autumn around Tokyo

The First and Greatest Commandment

Whether you love any other words of Christ Jesus, Christ Jesus Himself made it clear what teaching was the greatest.
Matthew 22:37-40 New International Version (NIV)
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
So, a man has a heart, a soul, and a mind.  And a man can love with a heart, a soul, and/or a mind.

You may love somebody or something only with your heart but without your soul and/or your mind.

You may love somebody or something only with your soul but without your heart and/or your mind.

You may love somebody or something only with your mind but without your heart and/or your soul.

A man would love his wife, his job, and his status in the society, each with his heart, his soul, and his mind.  Therefore in order to love God with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his mind, a man has to abandon or leave his wife, his job, and his status.  Accordingly, followers of Christ Jesus did only follow Him without doing anything.  It was a band of unemployed persons.  But they became the great group that set the course of the human history.

So, it is more valuable and glorious for a man to be a poor follower of Christ Jesus than the richest man in this world.

And this saying of Christ Jesus tells that we can conceive God only with all our heart, soul, and mind.
