The Most Important Teaching of Jesus
July 16th, 2013 by Oleg Kostyuk -
However, there is one dialogue in the Gospel of John that usually gets overlooked. It is the dialogue between Jesus and Nicodemus in John chapter three. Many Christians are familiar with John 3:16 that states that God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone and anyone who believes in him will have everlasting life. But, what else do we know about this discussion between Nicodemus and Jesus?

Mark 12:29-31,
29. And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
30. And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
31. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

The Most Important Teaching: Love for God and Neighbor
More than once people did ask Jesus Christ which was His most important teaching in order to inherit eternal life in the Kingdom of God. Some asked because they wanted to know and others did to find a reason to accuse Him.
Thus one day, a Jewish lawyer (a man who studied the Law of God) wishing to put Jesus Christ to the test asked Him, "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?"
Jesus Christ said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it. You shall love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments rest all the law and the prophets."

Jesus Taught the Most Important Command Is to Love
Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.” Mark 12:29-31 (NLT)

Jesus' Teaching #1 of 10:
“Ask, and you will receive; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7 (TEV) *
Comment: I remember seeing people camping on the sidewalk in a large city. It was freezing cold. They were trying to stay warm, huddled in blankets and cardboard boxes and sleeping bags. Some of them waited for up to two days. They were in line to get tickets for a concert. Whenever I have attended a play or concert or ballgame, I sometimes wonder (from my seat way in the back) who gets to sit in the front row. Guess who? The ones who were determined enough to go after the best seats.

Q: What is Jesus most famous teaching?
The most famous teaching of Jesus is called, The Beatitudes. This is the first part of sermon called The Sermon on the Mount. Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them, saying: Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
