Unique Conclusions of the History Study between Japan and the U. S.
Hidemichi Tanaka (1942 - ), a Professor Emeritus of Tohoku University, recently wrote a unique book on Japan-U. S. relations around WWII. The focus is on the era of the Empire of Japan before the end of WWII or the Pacific War.
He claimed that the Empire of Japan was not completely defeated by the United States of America in the war and the Empire of Japan's military had succeeded in developing an atomic bomb (a nuclear bomb), which was against a traditional view on WWII or the Pacific War.
Tanaka mainly studied many pieces of papers of the Office of Strategic Services established in WWII and later developed to U. S. CIA.
Tanaka found that it was strange that the U. S. military had not attacked the Imperial Palace in Tokyo during the Pacific War and that there were no descriptions about treatment of the Imperial Family of the Empire of Japan in the Potsdam Declaration or the Proclamation Defining Terms for Japanese Surrender calling for the surrender of all Japanese armed forces during World War II. There must be a secret agreement on the Emperor of Japan, he thought. Therefore, he thought that it cannot be said that the Empire of Japan was completely defeated or destroyed by the allied forces led by the U. S.
So, Tanaka thought that there must be a special secret agreement between the Empire of Japan and the U. S. of America. In Tanaka's judgment the two nations had always decided how to treat the Emperor of Japan after the defeat of Japan. (The U.S. wanted a war with the Empire of Japan very much as the Empire allied with Germany.) So, the Emperor of Japan knew that he would be pardoned when the Empire started a war and finally surrendered to the U. S. So, in August 1945 he decided that the government of the Imperial Japan should surrender to the U. S. of America after the atomic bomb attacks in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
But, Tanaka also found that the Empire of Japan started development of atomic bombs in 1941. It was 1942 that the U. S. started the development of atomic bombs, but the Imperial Japan's military had started the atomic bomb development in 1941 in North Korea, a Japanese territory at the time, with enough electricity and uranium.
Hideki Tojo, the Japan's prime minister at the time, informed the Emperor of Japan that the Emperor of Japan had started the atomic bomb development. But the Emperor was not happy, saying that other nations would also start the atomic bomb development, leading to annihilation of the mankind. So, Tojo thought that he could not push the development against the will of the Emperor. But other elites around Tojo claimed that it should continue since if the Imperial Japan had been defeated by the U. S., they would have lost everything.
This movement on the Japanese side was well known by the U. S. As both the Empire of Japan and the U. S. knew that the other side was developing atomic bombs, Tanaka thought that they secretly agreed that atomic bombs should not be used in the Pacific War.
Anyway, the Imperial Japan's military continued the development of an atomic bomb and performed its testing in success; it was in August 12, 1945, several days after the atomic bomb attacks in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. An atomic bomb was tested by the Imperial Japan's military, generating a big fire ball in the diameter of 1,100 yards. But, as the Soviet Union was invading North Korea, hours before their invasion of the site, secret documents on the atomic bomb was burned and destroyed. But the Japanese scientists there were abducted by the Soviet army. But, some Japanese scientist could escape from the invading Soviet army and ran into an area occupied by the U. S. army. They were interrogated there by U. S. officers. The Japanese scientists captured by the Soviet army were taken to Moscow and interrogated there. So, Tanaka thought that the Soviet Union could succeed in building nuclear bombs so soon after WWII.
Indeed, the area in North Korea where the atomic-bomb testing was carried out by the Imperial Japan's army had enough electricity and ores containing uranium. That is why the nuclear bomb development was carried out in North Korea but not in the Japanese mainland.
The fact that the Empire of Japan had succeeded in testing of an atomic bomb was confirmed by American soldiers fighting in the Korean War in 1950. But Tanaka found that those American soldiers who had found Japanese nuclear facilities were killed by the American army so as to conceal the fact.
Therefore Tanaka understood why the U. S. military dropped atomic bombs in the Empire of Japan but not in Germany or Italy.
From the beginning of the Pacific War between the U. S. and the Empire of Japan, the U.S. decided to use the Emperor of Japan to control the Japanese military after the War. Therefore Americans did not attack the Imperial Palace in Tokyo and other cities and sites closely related to the Imperial Family. The Emperor was pardoned by the U. S. government, so that his accountability for the war was not pursued. He was not held accountable for the war even in the International Military Tribunal for the Far East.
Tanaka thought that the handling of the Emperor of Japan by the U. S. government was too unusual. And, he found that the U. S. government wanted to conceal that fact that the Empire of Japan also succeeded in atomic-bomb testing before its surrender so that America could rule the world after WWII based on its nuclear superiority.
These are very unique conclusions of the history study between Japan and the U. S. of America. However, based on them, the facts that North Korea, one of the poorest countries in the world, could develop nuclear weapons and the Emperor of Japan can be still positioned at the highest place in the Japanese society despite the defeat of the Empire of Japan against the U. S. while three million Japanese people were killed in the Pacific War against the U. S.
So, North Korea seems to still use legacies of the occupation of the Empire of Japan that continued from 1910 to 1945.
Tanaka also referred to various past/present foreign and domestic papers on this issue: American news papers such as Atlanta Constitution issued in 1946, Rodong Daily News of North Korea, Russian Sputnik, the official website of the Chinese government, and a book by Ángel Alcázar de Velasco, a Jewish Spanish spy of that era for the Empire of Japan.

John 10
7 Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.[a] They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
