"A Prophet? Yea"

The Ministry of Finance Building, Tokyo

President Mr. Barack Obama will reportedly visit Japan on Friday next week, introducing one-day delay into the original schedule due to the spree of killing at the Fort Hood, Texas.

It is said the suspect Major Nidal Malik Hasan was a Muslim born in America to the parents who immigrated from Jerusalem.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8345944.stm

I don't know what difference is there between Hispanic (Catholic) Americans and Muslim Americans when they identify themselves as patriotic Americans devout to American spiritualism, since the mainstream religion of America is a new type of Christianity/Judaism complex which Catholics and Muslims outside the United States cannot fully understand to respect such Americans.

Isn't it time to have the mainstream religion of America evolve into a new type of Christianity-Judaism-Islam complex?

Anyway, a wise man or woman never pulls the trigger to blue forces.

SECTION I: The Bible and Climate Change

I-1: Snow

Snow is sometimes, though not often, mentioned in the Old Testament, but a few in the New Testament related to the era of the Roman Empire.

----------
Common in Palestine in winter (Psalm 147:16). The snow on the tops of the Lebanon range is almost always within view throughout the whole year. The word is frequently used figuratively by the sacred writers (Job 24:19; Psalm 51:7; 68:14; Isaiah 1:18). It is mentioned only once in the historical books (2 Samuel 23:20). It was "carried to Tyre, Sidon, and Damascus as a luxury, and labourers sweltering in the hot harvest-fields used it for the purpose of cooling the water which they drank (Proverbs 25:13; Jeremiah 18:14). No doubt Herod Antipas, at his feasts in Tiberias, enjoyed also from this very source the modern luxury of ice-water."

http://eastonsbibledictionary.com/snow.htm
----------

Herod Antipas (20 BC – after 39 AD) was the king of Judea during the lifetime of Jesus Christ.

In the King James Version of the New Testament, there are only the following snow-related sentences:

Matthew 28:3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:

Mark 9:3 And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them.

I-2: Ice

Only three sentences include the word "ice" all through the Old Testament and the New Testament.

Job 6:16 Which are blackish by reason of the ice, and wherein the snow is hid:

Job 38:29 Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?

Psalms 147:17 He casteth forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold?

And the word "frozen" is used only once throughout the Old Testament and the New Testament.

Job 38:30 The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.

So, as expected from the study of the Roman Empire, the eras from the Alexander the Great to the fall of Jerusalem or the compilation of the Gospels throughout the sub-eras of Caesar and Jesus Christ looked like truly warm or even sub-tropical around the Mediterranean.

SECTION II: Scientific Evidences

Indeed, scientists found recently that till the fall of the Roman Empire after the fall of Jerusalem or the compilation of the Gospels the weather was very dry around the east Mediterranean:

----------
Decline of Roman Empire

Updated on Saturday, December 06, 2008, 00:00 IST

An international team has carried out a study and claims to have found evidence of dry weather from 100 AD to 700 AD that actually coincided with the fall of both Roman and Byzantine rule in the region.

Based on chemical signatures in a piece of calcite from a Soreq Cave from Soreq Cave located in the Stalactite Cave Nature Reserve near Jerusalem, the researchers from Israel and the United States have pieced together a detailed record of the area's climate from 200 BC to 1100 AD to reach the conclusion.

http://www.zeenews.com/from-the-past/2008-12-06/488882news.html
----------

Indeed, this is the starting point of the modern Europe through the Middle Ages.

Then emerging modern Europe has not been sub-tropical like the decaying Roman Empire, since peoples emerging were used to live surrounded by ice and snow in a freezing environment.

----------
Between the 5th and 8th centuries, new peoples and powerful individuals filled the political void left by Roman centralized government. Germanic tribes established regional hegemonies within the former boundaries of the Empire, creating divided, decentralized kingdoms like those of the Ostrogoths in Italy, the Visigoths in Hispania, the Franks and Burgundians in Gaul and western Germany, the Angles and the Saxons in Britain, and the Vandals in North Africa.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle_Ages#Early_Middle_Ages
----------

From a historical point view, today's global warming can put an end to today's Europeans' hegemony.

It is so, since they were from snow, ice, and a frozen environment as the history tells.

That must be why Europeans are the most afraid of global warming.

It is so, since with global warming we might return to the glory of the Roman Empire and further to the holy climate of the Jesus Christ's era, leaving cold-heated European races.

Haven't you ever thought this way?

*** *** *** ***

Anyway, a sudden change of climatic environments around you might disturb you physically or psychologically while you are not aware of disorder deep inside.

Or a certain type of viruses might suffer the similar disorder, resulting in the today's pandemic of the swine influenza.

Anyway, in Japan, they say that only fools do not catch a cold.

A wise man or woman sometimes has a strange or rare chronic illness, since I have some evidences...

Mat 11:7 And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

Mat 11:8 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.

Mat 11:9 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.

Mat 11:10 For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

"Knock, and It Shall Be Opened unto You"

(Finance Ministry of Japan)

Now, a Q&A session between ministers of the Japanese Government, led by Prime Minister Mr. Yukio Hatoyama, and Opposition lawmakers is being broadcast live on TV from the National Diet (House of Councilors) in Tokyo to all over Japan.

U.S. military bases in Japan can be always a point at issue, if a regime change occurs.

For example, the German Government bears the stationing costs of U.S. troops in Germany which reach US$860 million per yearas of 2003 or so.

The South Korean Government bears the stationing costs of U.S. troops in South Korea which reach US$850 million per year as of 2003 or so.

The Japanese Government bears the stationing costs of U.S. troops in Japan which reach US$4.62 billion per year as of 2003 or so.

And there are total 135 locations of American military bases, training facilities, and maneuvering grounds in Japan, which the American Army, Navy, Air Forces, and Marines can use so freely.

The total area of these installations is larger than that of all the Tokyo 23 Wards (metropolitan part of Tokyo Prefecture) combined.

As China and Russia are now friendly nations to America, the U.S. Government must review the need for keeping so many bases in Japan.

SECTION I: The Second Japanese in Jerusalem

It is Genichiro Fukuchi (1841 - 1906) that visited Jerusalem as the second among the Japanese in 1873.

He was chosen as a member of the Iwakura Mission, "a Japanese diplomatic journey around the world, initiated in 1871 by the oligarchs of the Meiji era."

It is because samurai Fukuchi had been already dispatched to Europe in 1861 and 1865 by the Tokugawa samurai government before the Meiji Restoration or the Civil War for Modernization of Japan and the fall of the Tokugawa samurai regime in 1868

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iwakura_Mission

When the mission returned from Europe to Japan, he left the leader Tomomi Iwakura and others to visit Jerusalem alone.

After coming back to Japan, Fukuchi took an initiative in various fields in politics and culture. His influence on the Japanese society in the process of full modernization is comparable with the most respected and appraised cultural figure of the era Yukichi Fukuzawa, also an ex-samurai having served the Tokugawas.

Though how Fukuchi was influenced by his own visit to Jerusalem is not clear, his largest contribution to the Japanese society might be his contribution to promotion of Kabuki, traditional drama performed by male actors.

The famous Kabuki theater in Tokyo was originally built through Fukuchi's initiative and efforts.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabuki-za

(I do not personally like kabuki at all, though...)

SECTION II: Other Notable Japanese Visit to Jerusalem

In 1906, notable Japanese author Roka Tokutomi (1868 - 1927) visited Jerusalem since he had become a Christian and corresponded with Leo Tolstoy.

(To be continued...)

*** *** *** ***

It is said that almost one million Japanese people have been already infected by or recovered from the swine influenza.

However, none of Japanese ministers and lawmakers in the budgetary committee room in the Diet wore a mask, as observed on a live TV broadcast this morning.

In Japan, they say beautiful women die young, or at least suffer bad luck.

Of course, some of them might be exceptionally die-hard against their fates nowadays...

Luk 11:5 And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;

Luk 11:6 For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?

Luk 11:7 And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.

Luk 11:8 I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.

Luk 11:9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

"He Stumbleth Not"

THE DAY OF NO-INFAMY

I have not yet taken a swine-flu vaccine.

But, I am taking some precautions, such as not travelling to New York and Mexico City.

Indeed, some kinds of foods enhance immunizing power of the human body.

And, I purchased an alcohol spray-pump at a nearby supermarket.

Truly, a gate type of alcohol spray facilities normally activated should be installed at entrances of stations, air terminals, and public buildings all over the world.

Anyway, great is a sick man healed by Jesus Christ!

SECTION I: Hideki Tojo Saved 20,000 Judaists

If today 20,000 lives of Judaist Americans are saved by a Japanese, Israel would be forever thankful.

Yet, it happened in the border between Manchuria (Northeast China of today) and the Soviet Union (Russia of today), since Japanese generals held power in Manchukuo, a very special quasi-independent empire of the era.

----------
Kiichiro Higuchi (*, 20 August 1888 - 11 October 1970) was a lieutenant general in the Imperial Japanese Army in World War II.
...
As a major general and the commander of the Harbin Special Branch in 1938, he allowed approximately 20,000 Jewish refugees who had fled Nazi Germany to cross the border from the Soviet Union to Manchukuo. One of his subordinates, Colonel Norihiro Yasue, was responsible for feeding the refugees, settling them in Harbin or Shanghai, or arranging for exit visas.
...
After the surrender of Japan, Stalin demanded that Higuchi be extradited to the Soviet Union to be tried by a military tribunal for war crimes. On receiving word of this, the World Jewish Congress quickly formed a lobby directed at the Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers, General Douglas MacArthur, to prevent Higuchi's extradition and trial. Higuchi, along with Yasue, were subsequently invited to the independence ceremonies of the State of Israel.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiichiro_Higuchi
----------

But, General Kiichiro Higuchi had then a superior and very influential officer in Manchuria, General Tojyo.

Nonetheless, General Hideki Tojo (1884 - 1948) authorized General Higuchi's heroic decision while Nazi Germany raised a protest to the Imperial Government in Tokyo trying to prevent the salvation of the poor Judaists.

General Tojo affirmed his support for General Higuchi against an inquiry from Tokyo, namely the Imperial Ministry of Foreign Affairs who received the strong protest from Nazi Germany.

Accordingly, those Judaists, who had fled Nazis to a Siberian autonomous region Stalin had established for Judasits but had found the Stalin's goodwill to be not substantial at all, could receive big aid from the Imperial Military and the Imperial Government in Tokyo.

Eventually these 20,000 Judaists were allowed to move to Shanghai and then as far as to the United States through Japan before the attack on Pearl Harbor of 1941 where 2,290 U.S. soldiers fell in addition to 48 U.S. civilians.

Yet, as prime minister of the Empire of Japan who authorized the attack on Pearl Harbor, General Tojo was executed in Tokyo after WWII by the Allied Powers, though from 1937 to 1938 he had been chief of staff of the whole Imperial Japanese Army having been stationed in Manchukuo.

Note: Today, Tojo Hideki's soul is enshrined at Tokyo Yasukuni Shinto Shrine with other fallen personnel of the Imperial Military.

SECTION II: The First Japanese in Jerusalem

It was in 1619 that the first Japanese man reached Jerusalem in the Japanese and world history.

----------
Petro Kasui Kibe (1587 - July 4, 1639) was a Japanese Christian during 17th century and a Jesuit priest. Before reaching Rome, he became the first Japanese to visit Jerusalem. After he came back to Japan, he was martyred.
...

In "1587," Petro Kibe was born in Kibe, Kunisaki in Bungo (At present, Kibe Kunimi-town Kunisaki-city Ōita Prefecture), Japan. His parents were both Christians.
...
In 1614, he was exiled to Macau due to a deportation order of Christians.
...
He went to Malacca and Goa in India by ship, and then left for Europe on foot via Persia, the Strait of Hormuz and Baghdad, finally becoming the first Japanese Christian to arrive in Jerusalem. After a difficult journey that lasted three years he arrived in Rome after sailing through the Mediterranean Sea.

...
Father Kibe had a hard decision to return to Japan due to the risk of being a martyr as Japan oppressed Christians and Christian priests' entry to Japan was forbidden.
...
He traveled around Southeast Asia, and then finally he succeeded in boarding a ship from Manila to Japan in 1630.
...
He was sent to Edo (Tokyo at present). He met Christovao Ferreira who had already rejected his faith of Christianity, but Kibe strongly recommended Ferreira to return to the faith. Father Kibe was tortured severely, but he never rejected his faith. He even encouraged two other Christians in the "torture hole" who were also being tortured to death. As a result, the infuriated guards pulled him out of the hole and ran him through with a spear.
...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petro_Kasui_Kibe
----------

So, this year 2009 is just the 390th year anniversary for the first Japanese visit to Jerusalem in the Japanese and world history.

*** *** *** ***

The first name of General Hideki Tojo and that of N.Y. Yankee Mr. Hideki Matsui (the 2009 World Series MVP player) sound the same; but Kanji letters used in Japanese writing are different.

So, Mr. Matsui's parents must have never felt any problem or restrictions in naming his son with the specific Kanji letters which simply sound "Hideki."

Rather, Mr. Hideki Matsui shares the same Kanji letter for the first part of his first name (Hide) with that of Japanese Nobe Prize winner Hideki Yukawa, the most respectable physical scientist of Japan.

Finally, the New York Yankees having been spellbound from 2001 to 2008 have been finally released from a yet-unknown curse, owing to the super base-ball player who came from Tokyo in 2003, while EEE Reporter was watching live on TV, around Tokyo, the latter part of the sixth game of the 2009 Major-League-Baseball World Series held in the brand-new Yankee Stadium.

Joh 11:5 Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.

Joh 11:6 When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.

Joh 11:7 Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.

Joh 11:8 His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?

Joh 11:9 Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.

Joh 11:10 But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.

"Or Do We Look for Another?"

(Kasumigaseki Governmental Office District, Japan)

Yesterday, it was Culture Day in Japan, which was "first celebrated as a national holiday in 1868, when it was called Tenchō-setsu (*), a holiday held in honor of the birthday of the reigning emperor—at that time, the Meiji Emperor."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culture_Day

When I attended a junior high school here in Japan a long-long time ago, they held a special whole-school event on Culture Day every year.

One year, on that occasion a certain group of pupils and students presented and displayed in a class room various scripts and screenplays used in some TV stations and radio studios nearby, since the middle school was situated on the periphery of a big city.

However, I was not so much impressed with those TV things, though it was a surprise that TV announcers, personalities, and actors and actresses had to learn so many lines and memorize words before going on the air.

Yet, it is still hard to believe that some U.S. presidents in the 20th and 21st centuries can deliver a long address without reading a memo.

(If you want to make a world class of speeches, you would like to refer to EEE Reporter blog postings related to a subject...though I am not good at the art of speeches...)

Anyway, Jesus Christ must not have had a rehearsal before any critical situation.

SECTION I: Power and Wealth

Any pious Christians must admit only power and wealth Jesus Christ admitted.

Any pious Judaists must admit only power and wealth Moses admitted, since he is the last or latest, greatest Israelite Judaism admits.

----------
Religion and Wealth: The Role of Religious
Affiliation and Participation in Early Adult Asset Accumulation*

LISA A. KEISTER, Ohio State University

...

My analyses provide clear evidence that being raised Jewish and practicing Judaism as an adult are associated with tremendous gains in wealth.

Table 2 reports unadjusted estimates of adult wealth by religious affiliation in childhood.13 Mean 1998 net worth for the full sample was $134,500. For those raised in Jewish families, the mean was $372,300, more than twice the mean for the full sample. Median net worth, a more unbiased estimate of wealth given the skewness of the wealth distribution, was $48,200 for the full sample. For those raised in Jewish families, the median was more than three times larger at $150,890. The proportion of Jews who have ever inherited is also much higher than the proportion in the full sample. Of those raised in Jewish families, .67 had ever received an inheritance compared to .40 in the full sample. Among those who had inherited at some time, the average inheritance for Jews was $4,713, while the average was less than $2,000 for the full sample. The descriptive statistics suggest that asset allocation may, indeed, account for some of this difference.

The table includes estimates of the proportion of families who own homes and stocks. Of those raised in Jewish families, 56% owned stocks in 1998, while only 24% of those in the full sample were stock owners. The difference in homeownership is much less dramatic. Of the Jewish respondents, 73% owned their own homes, while 65% of the full sample were homeowners.14

The year 1998 is 53 years after the Holocaust.

But, was it all Judaists had achieved in America during the half century?

It was cold yesterday here around Tokyo.

I could see my breath white.

Yet, very late in the night, I saw La Strada (English: The Road), a (1954) Italian neorealist drama directed by Federico Fellini, over a cable TV channel, since it was Culture Day.

Anyway, be a world class, or the Obama class or the W class, of players.

Mat 11:3 And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?

Mat 11:4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:

Mat 11:5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

Mat 11:6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

"Say Ye that the Lord Hath Need of Him"

(Kasumigaseki, Tokyo, the capital of Japan; photos taken by EEE Reporter)

The Yankees are now playing against PHI, 1-6, as it is being broadcast live on TV in Japan.

There is a sweet spot on the bat like on the racket for tennis.

No matter how fast a ball is pitched, if a batter takes it on the sweet spot of his bat at a right angle, he can strike the ball back fast, far, and high without using much power from his arms.

However, swinging the bat to meet a fast ball at 90 miles or more per hour needs strong movement of muscles and bones of the batter. Accordingly, a batter tends to overstrain himself, resulting in missing the sweet-spot matching with the fast ball.

Anyway, if Hideki Matsui is allowed to play as outfielder tonight in America (a holiday's morning in Japan), he would be the first player in the MLB history who plays outfield in the World Series without any such experiences during the season, since he has been a designated hitter all through the 2009 American League games.

SECTION I: Poor Christians and Poor Judaists

Simply hating poverty is too simple for a religion to be of a world class.

But, Judaism hates poverty so simply.

----------
JEWISH MONEY AND ECONOMIC INFLUENCE

...
Forbes business magazine even featured a story in 1999 about this same Rabbi Visotzky, who teaches a monthly religious session to 20 powerful Jewish Manhattan businessmen.

The article is intriguing for its insights on Jewish morality. On the day the reporter attended, the subject of discussion was Genesis 12:10-20. In this part of the Torah, the reader finds the disturbing story of the seminal Jewish patriarch Abraham, who pretends that his pretty wife, Sarah, is his sister so that he may both protect himself and sell her to the Egyptian Pharaoh. (She was, in fact, however incestuous, his half-sister.) [SMITH, M., 1989, p. 138] "This ploy," notes the Forbes reporter, "will not only save his life but also allow him to turn a profit on her sale. Less delicately put, Abraham becomes Sarah's pimp." [LEE, S., 11-10-99] After Abraham reaps payment, God punishes Pharaoh by cursing his land with the plague. The Egyptian leader returns Sarah to Abraham and bans them from his land. "Payoff time again for Abraham," notes the reporter, " -- Pharaoh pays him hush money." [LEE, S., 11-10-99]

Rabbi Visotzky then explained for Forbes the essence, as he saw it, to the biblical tale, quoting a lawyer in his study group who suggested that, "Morality aside, you may not like it, but by the end of the chapter -- let's face it -- Abraham is talking one-on-one with the head of state and he's earned start up costs." Visotzky then adds: "This is what it means to be a small and embattled people who are going to survive at any cost. The only thing that matters is the bottom line." [LEE, S., 11-10-99]

http://www.jewishtribalreview.org/06money.htm
----------

The only thing that matters must be whether God saves any poor Judaist or not, like in the case of Christianity.

The interference of God in any hidden manner can only justify the Abraham's conduct in this episode involving his wife and the king of Egypt.

Put simply, a poor and honest Judaist wants to be out of poverty, since God makes some Judaists rich and others poor; a poor and honest Christian wants to be saved by the God, since poverty is crucially linked with Jesus' Theology.

However, most importantly, rich Judaists in New York in 1999 could not show full respect to Abraham; inevitably they had to face the punishment by God in 2008.

*** *** *** ***

I saw someone in a dream last night.

Anyway, they say that Former President Mr. George W. Bush is going to perform a first-pitch ceremony in the third game of the Japanese Baseball Championship in Tokyo tonight.

http://www.japantoday.com/category/politics/view/bush-to-visit-to-japan-next-week

Nonetheless, President Mr. Barack Obama can ski if he so wishes when he comes to Japan next week, as I saw a lot of fresh snow shining and covering Mt. Fuji 100 Km far from the Tokyo Area this morning.

Mar 11:1 And when they came nigh to Jerusalem, unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sendeth forth two of his disciples,

Mar 11:2 And saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring him.

Mar 11:3 And if any man say unto you, Why do ye this? say ye that the Lord hath need of him; and straightway he will send him hither.

Mar 11:4 And they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him.

Mar 11:5 And certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt?

Mar 11:6 And they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded: and they let them go.

Mar 11:7 And they brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments on him; and he sat upon him.

"But for the Glory of God"

(Can be enlarged)

In 2001, I was not so interested in the Japanese politics.

In 2008, I was not so interested in the governmental administration in Japan.

It might be simply because I have not been jobless or have had only dull-witted enemies.

Anyway, don't be a living corpse even after your victory in 2008 or 2009, to the eye of the God.

SECTION I: The Unemployed

I do not know how many unemployed persons are there in the U.S. viewing this blog now, but U.S. Department of Labor indicates that 15 million decent U.S. citizens were in the state of joblessness in September 2009.

http://data.bls.gov/PDQ/servlet/SurveyOutputServlet?request_action=wh&graph_name=LN_cpsbref2

However, the number of people who are without jobs in Japan at the end of August 2009 is reportedly about 3.6 million.

Yet, it is still doubtful if the number of the unemployed Chinese is 24 million as of the summer of 2009.

----------
China Facing Unemployment Issues
August 21, 2009 by Stephen Kersey
...
The poor global economy caused approximately 30 million factory workers in China to lose their jobs last year. No one really knows what the employment rate is in China or how many new jobs have been created due to the government holding that information as a secret.

http://www.everyjoe.com/articles/china-facing-unemployment-issues/
----------

It might be actually 240 million.

Anyway always keep in mind the "platinum" ratios of the populations of G3:
JAPAN: AMERICA: CHINA = 1: 2.5: 10

SECTION II: Unemployed Christians and Judaists

How different is a jobless Christian from a jobless judaist in America?

It might be related to the code of labor in each religion

Yet, American Judaists are remarkably Christian in pragmatic terms:

----------
Conservative Judaism Turns Left
Steven Malanga, 10.27.08, 03:55 PM EST
The movement embraces labor and ''social justice.''

...
In her teshuvah, Jacobs notes that Jewish religious law holds that employers must treat workers with dignity and respect, which she interprets to mean a "living wage" in 21st-century America. Though her sources on workers' dignity are largely ancient, her definition of a living wage is based on a model endorsed by the modern labor movement. The teshuvah tells employers that a living wage is "three times the fair market rent on a two-bedroom apartment" in the county where the business is located, or 130% of the poverty line, or 80% of an area's median income.

In New York City, a living wage based on so-called fair market rent amounts to about $23 an hour for a 40-hour workweek, or more than three times the state's minimum wage. In Chicago, it is $16 an hour, or double the Illinois minimum wage.

Joh 11:1 Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.

Joh 11:2 (It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)

Joh 11:3 Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.

Joh 11:4 When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.
