"After me cometh a man" - Fukushima Now

Tokyo Street Surrounded by Japanese Government Buildings

Fukushima Now

An international anti-nuclear energy conference was held in Japan recently.

In one session of the conference, some people living in Fukushima told one aspect of truth in Fukushima today.

They said that there are two types of people who do not leave the Fukushima Prefecture, on whose Pacific Ocean coast area the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant is situated, despite the radiation dose problem.  The first type is of those who have not money enough to use for moving to other prefecture.  You need cash at hand to rent a new house and a job in a new address.  The second type is of those who do not want to be separated from close friends, colleagues, and old acquaintances as they do not move out of Fukushima Prefecture for any reasons.

Now the Japanese Government have invested and poured huge money into recovery work in Fukushima Daiichi and decontamination work around the crippled nuclear power plant.  Business is are in the upward trend in many sectors in Fukushima Prefecture.  Fukushima people well understand the situation.  As a result, it is difficult for them to request money for moving house out of Fukushima from the Japanese Government or Tokyo Electric Power Corporation (TEPCO).

Besides, all the TV stations in Japan are compassionately promoting a message, "Hold on Fukushima! Get a grip Fukishima! Recover Fukushima!" Accordingly, some Fukushima citizens feel that it is a guilty to flee from Fukushima Prefecture abandoning efforts to rebuilt their life in their home towns.

So, some Japanese have come to wonder if it is good to invite other Japanese and citizens in the world to Fukushima Prefecture in the process of rebuilding prosperity of the Prefecture which is inherently well blessed with agriculture, forestry, fishery and industry.

It might be more honest for Fukushima citizens to shout "Don't come to Fukushima, since I want to leave the place!"

Anyway, Fukushima City, 70 km or 44 miles from Fukushima Daiichi Plant, receives 20 times more stronger doses than Tokyo, while Tokyo receives radioactive emission as little as New York does.
