Logical Thinking

If you have a child, you must protect him or her.

But, with violence, as the first and last means, would you try to protect your child?

Can you show a violent attitude to others while bringing your child on a street, as a warning that you would violate others if they start to violate your child?

Even in Japan, some stupid young father behaves so stupidly.

Be humble when you are with your child so that people around you would protect him or her due to your humbleness, since you have no power to destroy a police system of a nation.

The bottom line is if there is one such a stupid young father in Japan, how many of the similar kind are in America, Europe, India, and the Middle East since East Asia is the only region of Buddhism and Confucianism that teach humbleness with good manners?


SECTION I: GLOBAL WARMING MATHEMATICALLY DENIED

The global temperature increased in the period between 1995 and 2010 compared with the preceding period between 1980 and 1995.

But, It is not a simple linear increase as often stressed. Though between the above two periods the base temperature level was up, no simple linear increase of temperature is observed within the latter period between 1995 and 2010 as can be proven mathematically.

Anyway, carefully check the below figure showing temperature change prepared by an American university. You will confirm the above my assertion.

The UAH 1995-2009 slope was calculated to be 0.95 [degrees Centigrade] per century. And the standard deviation of this figure, calculated via the standard formula on this page, is 0.88 [degrees Centigrade]/century. So this suggests that the positivity of the slope is just a 1-sigma result – a noise. Can we be more rigorous about it? You bet...

The 99% confidence interval is (-1.59, +3.49) in [degrees Centigrade]/century. Similarly, the 95% confidence interval for the slope is (-0.87, 2.8) in [degrees Centigrade]/century. On the other hand, the 90% confidence interval is (-0.54, 2.44) in [degrees Centigrade]/century. All these intervals contain both negative and positive numbers. No conclusion about the slope can be made on either 99%, 95%, and not even 90% confidence level.

Only the 72% confidence interval for the slope touches zero. It means that the probability that the underlying slope is negative equals 1/2 of the rest, i.e. a substantial 14%.

We can only say that it is "somewhat more likely than not" that the underlying trend in 1995-2009 was a warming trend rather than a cooling trend. Saying that the warming since 1995 was "very likely" is already way too ambitious a goal that the data don't support...

Note: The "slope" means a temperature change trend (up or down). To say something about up or down, the confidence level must be first lowered to 72%. At this level, a slope zero (a levl line) occurs, and the probability of a "negative" slope and a "positive" slope outside this level-slope domain is considered each as 50%, namely 14% substantially (=[100-72]*0.5), indicating no wonder mathematically if global cooling is now occurring.

In summary, for various complex reasons, the global temperature increased in the period between 1995 and 2010 compared with the preceding period between 1980 and 1995, but no simple linear increase of temperature is observed within the latter period between 1995 and 2010 as can be proven mathematically.

In this decade or 15 years, the temperature level was higher than in early 1990's, 1980's, and 1970's, but no further trend of a simple increase in the temperatures can be proven mathematically within this latest period.

As the number of sun spots has dramatically decreased in past two years, it is likely that the global cooling has begun last year, though some heat already accumulated in the ocean can still continue to locally influence some regions on the earth. That may be why the central part of the Pacific Ocean over the equator got heated abnormally and the total CO2 absorption by the ocean suddenly decreased last year.

The ice covered area around the north pole has decreased through 1970's to 2000's. It recorded the minimum in 2006. But, the ice prevailed wider in early 2010 than in early 2007. As the sea contains more heat longer than the air or the land, there can be time delay for some effect of global cooling to come up to the surface of the Arctic Sea.

When the ice extension in the Arctic region has started to explicitly increase again, the world will admit global cooling.


SECTION II: When Israel Is Evacuated

First of all, if an Israeli today cannot prove his or her concrete and specific family tree that can be traced back to the era of Jesus Christ or at least the time of the first Jewish-Roman War (66–70 CE), that person has no right to live in Palestine legally.

If a pure native American person converts to Judaism today, he or she has no right at all to live in Palestine or the nation Israel.

Japanese are very compassionate to Judaists living or killed during WWII. But, Japanese are also very compassionate to Palestinians being suppressed by the Israeli military today.

But, as China has increased its military capacity along with its economic development, Palestinians might have more military power if their economy is improved.

If Syria and other anti-Israeli nations also succeed in economic growth like China, they would have more military capability to overwhelm Israel. So, the issue is whether Syria and other anti-Israeli nations can achieve high growth in economy like China.

European nations and America will not help Syria and other anti-Israeli nations achieve high growth in economy like China. Probably China will not, either, since Islam is a potential enemy of China.

Only Japan can help Syria and other anti-Israeli nations achieve high growth in economy like China.

In future, when Israel realizes that it cannot fight and win against Syria and other anti-Israeli nations that has developed like China in terms of economy and military, Israelis will evacuate the nation Israel, since Israel today exists only based on military superiority over Syria and other anti-Israeli nations.

But, where will they go?

In the Japanese National Diet (Parliament), if one camp has more than two thirds of seats in the Lower House, they can override any resolution the Upper House has adopted.

The camp led by ruling Democratic Party of Japan (with the head of P.M. Mr. Yukio Hatoyama) is 10 seats short of this 2/3 majority. Its allies the Social Democratic Party has 7 seats and the People's New Party has 3 seats. So, the ruling coalition has in theory the 2/3 majority. But to make it sure, the DPJ might take other party into the coalition. Then, it needs no majority in the Upper House, which was the case for the former ruling party LDP.

In this context, the coming Upper House election can be a secondary matter to the DPJ and Mr. Ichiro Ozawa, the senior lawmaker for P.M. Mr. Hatoyama.

Mr. Ozawa and the DPJ might take, for example, New Komeito occupying 21 seats in the Lower House, into the coalition, realizing the 2/3 majority so handily.

Put simply, the moment Mr. Ozawa and the New Komeito party have reached this agreement, significance of the Upper House election scheduled this summer might be lost. Accordingly, Mr. Ozawa can keep his influence even if he is forced to step down from the position of the Secretary General of the DPJ due to possible prosecution for violation of the Political Funding Regulation Law.

Nonetheless, the approval rate for the Hatoyama Cabinet will drop to a 10% level, an impossible line.

I-3. JAPANESE IN PALESTINE

Ms. Ayako Sono, a very notable Japanese female author, once visited Palestine. She talked with a Palestine female teacher. Catholic writer Ms. Sono pointed to the fact that the No.1 donor to Palestine was America and No.2 Japan. But, the female teacher got excited and spoke something harshly in Arabic. Yet, conservative Japanese author Ms. Sono was accompanied by an Arab woman, as a kind of guide, as she married a Japanese and possessed Japanese nationality. According to interpretation by the Arab Japanese woman, the female teacher said, "America must give us more money, since America is wrong. We must take more money from America! And, this Japanese woman must be abducted (as she is so pro-American)!"

Ms. Ayako Sono wrote in a newspaper column that she avoided even taking a taxi in Palestine after this incident.

Her comment has been discussed by some Japanese in their blogs and sites on the Internet, with and without sympathy for Palestinians.

As other example, a few days ago some Japanese lawmakers of the Liberal Democratic Party visited Palestine to talk with Arab politicians, though Chairman Mr. Mahmoud Abbas was in Shanghai. Palestine leaders asked them about the present situation of Japan's Former Prime Minister Mr. Junichiro Koizumi who visited Palestine in 2006. The Japanese Diet members also visited Jerusalem to even take a picture of the Wailing Wall.

Anyway, Japanese, who respect any valuable and authentic religion, are so interested in Palestine, which the world does not know.

There are many reasons that nonparty affiliated voters in Japan who supported the Democratic Parth of Japan in the last summer's election are turning the back to the ruling DPJ and the Hatoyama Cabinet, while the Upper House election is scheduled for this summer.

One reason is quality of female candidates and lawmakers of the DPJ, whom mostly Secretary General of the DPJ Mr. Ozawa chose.

It is as if Mr. Ozawa were trying to make the Japanese Diet a kind of tavern or barroom with women who actually worked in such an environment, including an indecent comedian group.

Nonparty affiliated voters who realized the regime change in Japan, so focused on globally, must take responsibility in the next elections. However, the rival LDP was also acting foolish, trying to have a local female lawmaker the media called the most beautiful among female politicians in Japan run for the coming election.

Anyway, as Mr. Ozawa assigned deliberately offices of DPJ female lawmakers in the congressional office building to rooms close to his on the same floor, it is time for nonparty affiliated voters to do justice on the DPJ.

Last night a Japanese TV channel presented the film "Da Vinci Code," maybe the second time.

It was a stupid movie based on a sinful novel.

But, as Jesus Christ had several siblings, it is very possible that still some descendants of Mother Mary and Father Joseph, the so-called biological parents of Jesus Christ, continue to live.

If such a person lives today, he or she is probably the 70th generation in the holy family line of blood.

After the death of Jesus Christ, His legacy could be relayed generation after generation among families of descendants of His siblings in a very secret manner.

As miracles are the essence of Christianity, the existence of the 70th generation of a brother of Jesus Christ is very possible.

But, where is he or she, the holy 70th-generation of His family?

There are four possible places: Israel, Rome, New York, or Saudi Arabia.

This can be a great non-nonsense story: There are four persons each in Israel, Rome, New York, and Saudi Arabia with a specific DNA pattern that proves their lineage which can be directly traced back 2000 years to the holy family in the first century in Palestine.

Accordingly, Judaism, Vatican Christianity, Modern Judaism/Christianity Complex, and Islam can be integrated through this story.

But, what pattern of holy DNA, as a miracle, should be looked for?

EXPOSITION ON WARS AROUND SHANGHAI IN 1930'S


Today, every Japanese thinks that the war with China in 1930's and 1940's was a big mistake, a big failure, a big mystery, or a big crime.

So, today's security partnership of Japan and the United States is based on this notion.

However, there is a context in anything, including the American War on Terror and the Chinese violent occupation of Tibet and Islamic regions.

Indeed, it is time to review incidents around Shanghai in 1930's, since if Japanese were so bad as the Chinese Communist Party claims, there could not be such an economic recovery after WWII in Japan and after 1970's in China due to huge aid and support from Japan.



SECTION I: CONCLUSION FOR GENERAL AUDIENCE

Through this March to April, I have reviewed the Japanese history with a focus on Shanghai in 1930's though Shanghai was then a state of quasi-colonization by the U.K., France, America, and the Empire of Japan.

Shanghai was extremely prosperous despite the Great Depression with economic and security contribution from the U.K., France, America, and the Empire of Japan.

But, the Chinese Government and armed factions started to occupy Shanghai by force.

Then 1932, Chinese troops launched a large-scale attack on Shanghai only to fail due to mighty defence by the Imperial Navy and Army dispatched from Japan over the East China Sea.

Again 1937, Chinese troops launched a larger-scale attack with 650,000 troops on Shanghai only to fail due to mighty defence by the Imperial Navy and Army mobilizing 250,000 troops from Japan over the East China Sea.

Though the Imperial Government was very reluctant to expand the war zone inside the Chinese Continent, Imperial generals on front thought it was time to eradicate the menace of the Chinese Military, though they had to address almost a million Chinese troops.

And behind the repeatedly invading Chinese troops into Shanghai, Imperial generals saw Nanjing, 280 km west of Shanghai, the then capital of China surrounded by long and mighty walls, where Chinese generals and soldiers fled looting villages on their way after the failure in invasion of Shanghai. The Imperial Army troops so swiftly chased them into Nanjing where many Chinese soldiers already exchanged their uniforms with civilian clothes as they knew that they were abandoned by their leaders and generals.

And further behind Nanjing, Imperial generals saw Chongqing, 2100 km west of Nanjing, where Chinese leaders and generals fled leaving soldiers and citizens in Nanjing in the middle of battles without instructions, support, and means to officially surrender to the Imperial Army. Imperial Army could not advance to Chongqing due to difficult terrains, so air-bombed Chongqing. While losing face and a half million troops, Chinese leaders started to shout, "It was the Imperial Army that first fired and invaded Shanghai," which Americans started to believe.

And further behind Chongqing, Imperial generals saw Washington D.C. and Pearl Harbor (6,430 km east of Tokyo), since the U.S. started to supply financial and military aid for China. Further, America stopped export of crude oil and iron to the Empire of Japan, requesting total withdrawal of the Imperial troops from mainland China.

Therefore, before fuel of the Imperial Navy depleted, the Empire of Japan had to make a decision on cease-fire with malicious Chinese troops or extending the honorable war to Pearl Harbor, the U.S.

Americans in Shanghai were protected by the Imperial troops through their sacrifices, twice from invading Chinese troops. But, now Americans believed the lie Chinese were diffusing in America so as to blame the Empire. It was a kind of inevitable decision that the Imperial generals, who dominated the Imperial Government in Tokyo then, accepted the challenge so irrational for them.

The attacks started by Chinese troops on Shanghai in 1932 and 1937 led to the Battle in Nanjing and the air campaign of Imperial air squadrons to Chongqing, and finally the Imperial air-craft carriers' attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, since the U.S. joined the Chinese Mafia who called themselves legitimate politicians and generals of China suffering civil wars for so long since the fall or the last days of the the Qing dynasty in 1911.


(The key to judgment of the war is that the Imperial Government, the National Diet, and political parties and businesses of the Empire in 1920's and 1930's had no official plan to occupy and colonize whole China through war; even Imperial troops stationed in Manchuria had no plan to launch war to the Chinese military so as to occupy and govern whole China, and its occupation of Beijing and North China was regarded as tentative but necessary for prevention of Chinese attacks. However, Imperial generals never refrained from aggressively responding to attacks from the Chinese side. In other word, nothing was systematic in this war on the Japanese side.)


SECTION II: APPENDIX

The Battle of Nanjing was fought only for 10 days. The 120,000 Imperial troops advanced quickly from Shanghai to Nanjing taking one month, fighting all the way.

Chinese troops were already half destroyed on the path from Shanghai to Nanjing, thus only 100,000 soldiers were engaged in fighting in Nanjing, resulting in 80,000 deaths (and 10,000 prisoners of war). This number means, however, almost uncountable casualties at the front, namely all the dead bodies lying as far as you could see in and around Nanjing, and more on the path from Shanghai.

1. Even today, it is said that 200,000 citizens or 1,000,000 citizens were killed being involved in the Battle of Nanjing. However, it is no wonder, since China mobilized 650,000 soldiers for the attack and invasion of Shanghai in 1937, which were completely destroyed through intense combats between Shanghai and Nanjing. And, it is plain to see that there was no reason for the Imperial troops to aimlessly kill Chinese citizens while they had to continue to fight another half a million Chinese troops before starting to govern whole China.

2. For Chinese leaders and generals to escape Nanjing and reach Chongqing, any great turmoil and mess in Nanjing were desired. They had to buy time. They must have left many soldiers in Nanjing, ordering them to carry out a guerrilla fighting. Though the great Nanjing Battle lasted only 10 days, Chinese leaders did not let citizens first escape the city with necessary arrangements.

3. First of all, Chinese leaders and generals had thought that they could easily drive out Imperial Naval ships and Imperial Marines from Shanghai and suppress all the Western soldiers stationed in the great port city. They had not taken into consideration a possibility that they would be defeated by the Imperial troops to be dispatched over the East China Sea, since Chinese leaders could use half a million troops and 200 fighter planes for this invasion of Shanghai. In short, the Imperial troops and air squadrons, equipped with enough cannons and advanced planes, were far stronger than Chiang Kaishek (Sho-Kaiseki in Japanese) and Mao Tse-tung (Mo-Takuto in Japanese) had thought before.

4. "When Nanking fell, the Nanking Safety Zone housed over 250,000 refugees" who were almost total residents then.

Most of these 250,000 Chinese citizens survived the Battle of Nanjing. However, if 5% of them were later involved in the guerrilla fight, the number of citizens wounded and killed would have been over 10,000, which is quite large for any witnesses, including Western ones.

As a reasonable conclusion, the Battle in Nanjing is thought to have caused 100,000 casualties on the Chinese side, regrettably, though 90% or more were of soldiers.

5. After WWII, it is said that the Communist Party led by Mao Tse-tung and the National Party led by Chiang Kaishek fought for hegemony over China, causing about one million deaths. This data and any other data about deaths of Chinese soldiers and citizens in any incident under the Communist regime are not objectively verified. Then how can you say how many citizens were killed in Nanjing in 1937, while 500,000 of 650,000 Chinese soldiers who had been initially mobilized disappeared or dispersed between Shanghai and Nanjing through one of the fiercest battles in the history?


SECTION III: Pearl Harbor in 1941

Shanghai, Nanjing, Chongqing, and Pearl Harbor were directly connected in the above context.

"Who helped, supported, and accepted the Chinese attack on Japanese in Shanghai in 1932 and 1937? It is America!" This is the final finding of the Imperial Government in 1941.

Every American older enough in December 1941 never forgot what he or she was doing when the news about the Pearl Harbor Attack first reached him or her.

But, few thought, "Japanese have finally come from Shanghai and Nanjing and through Chongqing to do justice!"

Indeed, America should have cooperated with the Empire of Japan in 1932 and 1937 to prevent Chinese attacks on Shanghai, since it was the true cause of the Pearl Harbor Attack in 1941.

Now, you know why I do not go to Shanghai.

I do not go to Nanjing, Chongqing, and Pearl Harbor.

It is because where one is one must show his respect to the God.

And, Jesus Christ said that even from a stone on the wayside a descendant of Abraham is created by the God.

You can be made a descendant of Abraham if you are a roadside stone. And a roadside stone never moves around so foolishly like the Imperial Army around Shanghai in 1937.

Globally Influential Japanese?

It cannot be Prime Minister Mr. Yukio Hatoyama, since his idea of 25% CO2 reduction was originally an idea of Foreign Minister Mr. Katsuya Okada.

It is Minister in Charge of Financial Affairs and Postal Reformation Mr. Shizuka Kamei that has changed the Koizumi Postal Privatization Policy and controls the world No.1 financial institute Japan Post Group.

But, the Japanese politician China expects, supports, and approves the most is without doubt Prime Minister Mr. Yukio Hatoyama, though his mentor Mr. Ichiro Ozawa is also ardently respected by Beijing.

Rather, I think it is Mr. Akio Toyoda, president of Toyota Motor Corporation with its headquarters in Toyota City (Nagoya Area), Japan.

Mr. Toyoda should accelerate introduction of electric cars before tens of millions of cars in China start to emit CO2 and other undesired chemicals to the air.

Then, he might again make an appearance, say, in the Larry King Live as an honorable industry leader of the world, though Nissan is now chasing Toyota so closely in Japan.

SECTION I: Shanghai & Beijing in 1999

The Shanghai Airport was built with $450 million ODA provided by Japan in 1999.

China should not have its Naval fleet sail around the Japanese islands, foolishly and childishly trying to threaten Japan and the U.S. as it did recently.

Even in 1920's and 1930's, the Empire of Japan helped build various modern infrastructures in and around Shanghai, though the Imperial Army and Navy fought back against invading Chinese troops, numerically several times larger, sacrificing some city facilities.

Everybody has or uses a TV in the world.

But, only three Japanese companies and two Korean makers provide total 60% of all the flat TV sets used in the world.

Of course, Japan has provided funds and technologies for development of the electronics industry of Korea in these decades.

But, those Japanese economists who have never worked in TV factories or learnt TV-related technologies are singing with Wall Street economists, "Japan is over! Japan is out! Japan is defeated!"

The truth is that America is over, out, and defeated in the TV industry competition since decades ago.

If America has a reasonable TV set maker, tens of thousands of Americans, unemployed today, must have a decent job.

Even today, students and professors do not need a TV set but books to study a certain subject in real.

More Money Or More Rest?

There are two things even the Japanese Mafia of any sort respect: traffic signals and yen.

It is however a long story how Japan has addressed the challenge of the exchange rate against the U.S. dollar.

Even China is yet to be tested.

Other developing countries, namely non-European dominant nations, must also first tackle this issue, since even a foolish British prime minister knows their advantage in the exchange market over, say, African countries or India.

If 1 yuan = 15 yen and 8 yuan = $1, then 120 yen = $1.
If 1 yuan = 14 yen and 7 yuan = $1, then 98 yen = $1.

However, China has wisely set 1 yuan at 14 yen and 7 yuan at $1.

The price reduction ratio in Japan is 76% (250 x 0.76 = 190).

The price reduction ratio in America is 83%.

However, China accounts for only 11% of America international trade.

China accounts for 17% of Japanese international trade.

In total, Japan receives 1.7 times more deflation pressure from China than America does.

If a wage of a worker decreases from $10,000 to $8,000 in America due to this China-deflation effect, it will decrease from $10,000 to $6,600 in Japan.

If sales of a company decrease from $10 million to $8 million in America due to this China-deflation effect, it will decrease from $10 million to $6.6 million in Japan.

If the Government tax revenue decreases from $1 trillion to $0.8 trillion in America due to this China-deflation effect, it will decrease from $1 trillion to $0.66 trillion in Japan.

In this way, the Japanese Government can collect only 66 trillion yen at best while it can collect 80 trillion yen, if the condition is the same as in America.

For 25 years, the deficit caused only in this context can accumulate to 350 trillion yen.


(But, an average annual salary of city workers in China is 30,000 Yuan [30,000 x 14 = 420,000 yen].

So, a Japanese company has to pay only 420,000 Yen to hire one worker for one year in a Chinese city, though 420,000 Yen is a 2 to 3-month work wage for one part-time worker in a Japanese city.

Japanese businesses must like this status despite the financial quagmire of the Japanese Government.

SECTION II: Golden Week Holidays of Japan

From April 29 to May 5, included, can be a continuous holiday period for many (tens of million) Japanese workers as this period includes five public holidays and one Saturday.

Most of offices of businesses in Japan will suspend operation.


My recommendation to people for their holiday trip is that they travel to the Okinawa and Toku-No-Shinma Islands, since the area is important for Japan's defence.

Peace Inside And Outside A Nation


Everybody in Japan is now wondering if the Secretary-General of the ruling Democratic Party of Japan Mr. Ichiro Ozawa will be eventually prosecuted through voting by the Committees for the Inquest of Prosecution, though the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office gave up indictment of Mr. Ozawa a few months ago.

The first voting of yesterday was resulted in request for prosecution of Mr. Ichiro Ozawa for violation of the Political Funding Regulation Law. If the second voting expected in a few months should be again resulted in request for prosecution, the most powerful Japanese lawmaker Mr. Ozawa will be indicted by law.

Such a big prosecution was conducted with late former prime minister Kakuei Tanaka in 1976, and 17 years later with the then most powerful politician Shin Kanamaru in 1993. And again 17 years later, Mr. Ichiro Ozawa is facing the possible fatal action, since Kakuei Tanaka and Shin Kanamaru were Mr. Ozawa's intimate bosses when he was a member of the Liberal Democratic Party.

In Japanese, it is said that what happens twice will happen three times.

Lower-House member Mr. Ichiro Ozawa should retire from politics as soon as possible, since he has been a member of the National Diet since 1969 when Prime Minister Mr. Yukio Hatoyama just graduated from the University of Tokyo.

Despite the 15 year economic slump, Japan is still the second largest and advanced economy enjoying peace China and America cannot attain.

The value of peace and its translation into wealth are what the modern economics lacks.

In other world, being rich in America lacks a sense of peace, while being rich in Japan is accompanied by a great sense of peace.

Only foolish super/very-rich Japanese would go and live in America. Even Prime Minister Mr. Yukio Hatoyama, spending a personal allowance of $150,000 per month (not from his salary), looks like having no idea of going and living in America after retirement (which I highly recommend the prime minister to go into without delay before the G8 Summit).



SECTION II: Little Known Facts of Shanghai before WWII

In 1937, Chiang Kaishek (Sho-Kaiseki in Japanese) launched a decisive and large-scale offence to Shanghai with total 600,000 soldiers and 200 fighter planes, following a plan made by German General Alexander von Falkenhausen (who left Shanghai in 1938 after Nazi Germany ordered him to do so).

In this situation around 1937, Shanghai was full of Europeans and Americans who formed an administrative committee in their official settlements together with Japanese residents. In response to a call from the Japanese Consul, they made a request to the Chinese Government and the Chinese mayor of Shanghai City so as to stop invasion of the city by Chinese troops.

Despite the mutual effort by Japanese and Westerners in Shanghai, Chinese troops continued attacks on the city, even bombing international settlements by fighter planes, which took 2000 lives of civilians in one case.

The Imperial Naval ships and Marines stationed around Shanghai alone could not prevent this assault, thus asking the Imperial Government in Tokyo full-scale deployment of Imperial Army and Naval/Army air squadrons, resulting in the dispatch of total 250,000 troops, 500 fighter planes, and 150 warships eventually.

(Probably Chiang Kaishek thought that his half a million troops could easily drive out Imperial Naval ships and Marines if some divisions should have been sent from mainland Japan over the East China Sea.)

This battle around Shanghai in 1937 resulted in a great victory of the Empire of Japan and Western civilians and officials living in the great prosperous port city Shanghai. But, Chinese troops retreated to Nanjing, while destroying houses and looting assets of civilians living on the path from Shanghai to Nanjing. It was a Chinese official strategy not to leave behind anything valuable to the enemy, namely the Imperial Army of Japan in this case, despite desparate resistance from local Chinese residents and villagers.

In 1939, there was still the administrative committee in the official settlements of Europeans, Americans, and Japanese, owing to the victory of the Imperial Military.

According to the official annual report of 1939 issued by this international committee in Shanghai,
- there were 70 camps and 50,000 refugees in Shanghai managed by the committee at the end of 1938, and 28 camps and 33,000 refugees at the end of 1939;

- there were 6,000+ Judaists fleeing from Europe to Shanghai in April 1939, and 10,000+ in June 1939, resulting in restriction imposed by the committee on acceptance of new refugees, though Judaist refugees from Europe were mostly accommodated in the Japanese territory in Shanghai;

- The committee discussed and took actions on various agendas in 1939, such as protection of children, financial assistance to refugees, flood control, and even the monument building for British soldiers killed in the Taiping Rebellion (1850-1864).

As I once wrote, even a young American woman could travel from Tokyo to Nanjing through Shanghai in 1940 so safely, though she observed, along a rail road to Nanjing, evidence of victims and the fierceness of battles between Japanese and Chinese troops in addition to the effect of the Chinese strategy of leaving nothing behind for its enemy.

A Japanese TV station presented an interview with Ms. Arianna Huffington, since she is advocating "move money" or withdrawal of deposited money from big banks, namely JP Morgan/Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley.

President Mr. Barack Obama also delivered a speech in Wall Street recently.

As I discussed in this blog, the central bank, the private banking system, and the government must be first changed before forcing a change in the industry/consumers domain.

However, this effort can mount to a level of a civil war or a revolution without fire arms. Courageous men and women are more wanted in America today.

Executive Summary

My recent discussion on history of Japan is as follows:

Shanghai's prosperity in 1920's and 1930's, though under a quasi-state of colonization, was protected by some Western police and soldiers (including U.S. Marines) stationed in the foreign settlement districts and some Imperial Naval ships and Marines of Japan stationed around the city. But, Chinese irregular and regular troops recklessly tried to occupy and govern whole Shanghai to launch military invasion of Shanghai, resulting in fierce battles with Westerners and Japanese. Yet, finally the city so prosperous in the era of the Great Depression was defended by Imperial troops dispatched from mainland Japan over the East China Sea, while the Imperial Government in Tokyo was so reluctant to authorize requests from the Imperial Military for sending more divisions to Shanghai. This is the situation till 1937, when Chinese political leaders and generals launched decisive offence onto Shanghai defenders. However, I do not support the act of colonization of Shanghai by Westerners and Japanese.

My recent claims concerning economics and history of Christianity are as follows:


SECTION I: Dream Economics

People must be respected and allowed to exercises their rights to enjoy life with goods and services.

But who provide goods and services? Yes, corporations and businesses.

They must be from the beginning allowed to exist and function so as to fulfil their duty to supply goods and services for people.



As you see, money is not necessarily needed as means to realize salary and expense payment.

Indeed, people can use "numbers," that is, simply numeric figures, instead of money.

A company pays 10,000 to a worker instead of $10,000, for, for example, work in a car factory. A worker pays 10,000 to a company instead of $10,000, for, for example, provision of a car by the company.

It does, since it is just a number and not money. There is no value in 10,000 unlike $10,000. The value is in goods and services as well as in people's rights to receive goods and services.

Mankind should start to use "10,000" instead of "$10,000" as a step toward non-money economy.

Anyway, it is not in banks or governmental agencies that create goods and services which are the base of value for human material life.

Without rectifying current warped relationships between corporations and workers, economy cannot be truly improved.


SECTION II: Pompeii

A great volcano erupted in the first century 230 Km or 140 miles south of Rome.

There is a report on this volcanic disaster that destroyed city Pompeii and took life of 10,000 to 25,000 people.

Pliny the Younger, was a lawyer, author, and magistrate of Ancient Rome. Pliny's uncle, Pliny the Elder, helped raise and educate him and they were both witnesses to the eruption of Vesuvius on 24 August 79 AD, the day of the elder's death...

The largest body of Pliny's work which survives is his Epistulae (Letters), a series of personal missives directed to his friends and associates. These letters are a unique testimony of Roman administrative history and everyday life in the 1st century AD...

Especially noteworthy among the letters are two in which he describes the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in August 79 during which his uncle Pliny the Elder died (Epistulae VI.16, VI.20), and one in which he asks the Emperor for instructions regarding official policy concerning Christians (Epistulae X.96). Pliny's attention to detail in the letters about Vesuvius is so keen that modern vulcanologists describe that type of eruption as Plinian.

Pliny the Younger as governor of a Roman territory was in charge of handling religious matters.

In those days, Christians were suspected by Roman authorities to be members of an evil religion or cult. If identified as a Christian or an ex-Christian, people were executed to death.

But, Pliny the Younger wrote a letter to the Roman Emperor that he wanted to apply a rule that execution would not be exercised on ex-Christians. Even against those accused of being a Christian, Pliny the Younger wanted to first ask whether the accused was truly a Christian while informing him that a Christian would be subject to capital punishment.

Emperor Trajan accepted the policy Pliny the Younger put forward.

It is not clear what influence the eruption of Mount Vesuvius had on the mind of Pliny the Younger. But, as he lost his great uncle in the great natural tragedy around Pompeii, Pliny the Younger must have come to more think of the God of Christians.

Mount Vesuvius took life of 10,000 to 25,000 people but it could be regarded as saving more Christians through Pliny the Younger.

The recent volcanic eruption of Mt. Eyjafjallajoekull harassed million travellers, but it has probably served as a key factor for promotion of the faith in Christ or the fall of the Vatican.

The Toyota's car name Prius means "prior to" in Latin. Indeed, the Toyota problem happened prior to the recent volcanic eruption in Iceland.

Midsummer Night's Dream Again

Experts in Japan today all forecast that the 2010 summer's national election will be resulted in the defeat of the incumbent ruling pro-Chinese party DPJ led by Prime Minister Mr. Yukio Hatoyama.

However, no one expects the former ruling pro-American LDP will immediately return to power, since it is just an Upper House election for half of its members, while a real regime change needs a majority of Lower House support in the Japanese Diet.

Presumably, de-facto head of the DPJ Mr. Ichiro Ozawa might chose a "self-destructive election campaign" with Mr. Hatoyama kept in premiership as it is, while the LDP led by Mr. Sadakazu Tanigaki also looks like following the pattern of the self-destructive election campaign then P.M. Mr. Taro Aso of the LDP pursued ironically in the 2009-30-8 Lower-House election.

So, in this summer, for complicated reasons, both the two major political parties of Japan, the Democratic Party of Japan and the Liberal Democratic Party, will probably enter self-destructive election campaigns, since the leadership of each party will be preserved after all. It is because no regime change can happen even if the ruling DPJ is forced to tie up with some small or new parties after this election.

Yes, it is a self-destructive election campaign. But can it help President Mr. Barack Obama in 2012?

(As of now, it seems that Mr. Taro Kono of the LDP can be a reasonable pro-Chinese prime minister and Mr. Seiji Maehara of the DPJ can be a reasonable pro-American prime minister someday as they look somehow transparent...)


SECTION I: 1995 To 2008

Economists cannot cause, explain the cause of, or understand the significance of the following trends of GDPs in the U.S. and Japan for the past 20 years.

Economists can only describe how the things went on around money, interest, and prices or at bets an unemployment rate. But, they cannot tell why it happened in real terms. They might say something using financial data and figures which are not the causes and the real mechanism of the trends. There is no nation in the world whose major industry is the printing of bills.

So, just remember that the year 1995 was when the Windows 95 OS was launched and the Internet started to prevail in various communities in America, starting to change economy.

It is not financial theory intellectually biased economists can only handle but the Windows 95 OS and the Internet that drove the American GDP so drastically for subsequent 20 years.



It is not economists that are working in factories, shops, or R&D centers. It is not economists that are managing people and funds in corporations.

If economists can save the world, they must have saved Japan before 1995. Even Toyota and GM would hire economists for their CEOs or presidents.

(They are like Japanese Prime Minister Mr. Yukio Hatoyama who can obtain a doctor's degree in an American university, but cannot understand that the society would collapse if a prime minister of a nation uses power to avoid an arrest for $6 million tax evasion exposed publicly without apologizing the people.)

How many economists in the world can explain how the Windows 95 and the Internet had influenced the reality expressed in the above figure, while there were no other crucial economic factors in 1995 that could bring about such a change?

In addition, the use of computer software is highly influenced by culture of a nation, including its language.

Anyway, start to think of economy for your own without blindly respecting economists who are even despised by very-rich and super-rich people.

Yet, the Chinese Communist Party has learnt well from American and Japanese economists to further promote their "anti-economics policies" to be an economic power following Japan.


SECTION II: Shanghai, Mitsubishi & Rockefeller

In 1990, Mitsubishi joined Rockefeller through capital investment in the real estate sector. Their modern relationship is still going on, further advancing to Shanghai from New York through Tokyo.

Rockefeller Group is perhaps best known as the onetime owner of Rockefeller Center in New York City, including Radio City Music Hall, which it sold to a group of investors in 1997.

Now a part of Mitsubishi Estate Co. Ltd. of Japan, the company owns nearby landmarks the Time-Life and McGraw-Hill buildings, as well as properties in Florida, California and New Jersey.

A Manhattan native, Green joined Rockefeller in 1980 as an assistant vice president and real estate counsel, rising to his current position last October.

Most exciting, he says, are Rockefeller's prospects in China, where it is helping rehabilitate sections of the city of Shanghai and may eventually build "something on the skyline" of the scale of Rockefeller Center.

"You should see Shanghai -- it's bustling," says Green, 56, a resident of Pelham, N.Y. "They're also building a whole new city across the river. Shanghai wants to be one of the cities you'd say in the same breath as London or New York, a really dynamic place."

Like the buildings of Rockefeller Group, Green is a higher-up, beholden to shareholders and more than 10,000 employees, which he says is both rewarding and daunting...

One event he's particularly proud to have been involved in is the merger of Rockefeller into Mitsubishi in 1997, which also required the meshing of the Japanese consensus-based culture with the American spirit of risk and entrepreneurialism.

So, how would the Empire of Japan try to destroy Shanghai in 1930's by sending tens of thousands of troops over the East China Sea (except for fierce defense of whole Shanghai, including French/British/American settlements, from reckless Chinese troops), while its business in the half-colonized city by Westerners was so important especially after the Great Depression?

Mitsubishi Group, including a heavy industry business, a car maker, and a mega-bank, once supplied a great amount of weapons for the Imperial Navy and Army before the end of WWII.

But now in 2010, the Chinese Communist Party, Mitsubishi Group, and Rockefeller Group are all hand in hand to promote business success in Shanghai and China...

But have they learnt anything from history about Shanghai around 1930?

Determinants

A big change is realized by a unique determinant.

The 2008 Presidential Election had two unique determinants: the Lehman Shock and the African American candidate Mr. Barack Obama.

The 2009-30-8 general election in Japan had two unique determinants: the large-scale governmental omission of the pension fund management and the very wrong manners of then Prime Minister Mr. Taro Aso.

National elections this year in Japan and America may have one or two determinants already existent.

Yet, we had better have politicians dance more like a nut, since truth of the world is so crazy.


SECTION I: CHINA RISK

At the start of this year, 2010, many economists in the world predicted that the Chinese economy would face a crisis by the end of 2010.

- Property prices in cities in China are now comparable to those in Japan, the E.U., and North America, but an average income of Chinese workers is one tenth of that of the advanced countries.

- During the past year, property prices in Beijing surged two to three times higher; one square feet cost now $400.

- The vacancy rate of buildings in cities has now reached 10%, while 85% of Chinese households have no financial resources to purchase their homes.

- It would be like the burst of the bubble in Japan 20 years ago, in Hong Kong 13 years ago, and in Dubai last year.

However, the benchmark for judging the Chinese economy might be crude steal production rather than land prices:

As long as crude steel is needed in the Chinese market, the Chinese economy can function well with those large-scale suppliers employing so many citizens.

When the steel market in China is saturated or crushed with full of buildings all over the land, it would enter the Great Depression of the 21st century.


SECTION II: CHINA IN GREAT DEPRESSION

Even well educated Chinese today do not understand the following facts (due to biased education they have had in China):

- It is the Imperial Marines of Japan as well as some Western soldiers that protected and defended Shanghai from regular and irregular Chinese troops invading Shanghai.

- The Imperial Army of Japan did not send to Shanghai a full-scale division (which could have been prepared for "invasion of the inland of China") except during the large scale offence by Chinese irregular and then regular troops in 1932.

- The 1932 War in Shanghai was a defensive war for Japanese and Westerners supporting and enjoying prosperity in Shanghai, since there were no reasons for Japanese and Westerners to attack Shanghai, their residence.

- In most battles around Shanghai and subsequent wars, the Imperial troops of Japan always faced twice to ten times larger Chinese troops but defeated them all with incredible courage and prowess based on the samurai traditions, while Chinese soldiers were not so well trained, since there is the East China Sea between Japan and China.

With this notion, let's check a certain writing on Shanghai in 1930's and the era of the past Great Depression:

It was the first half of 1930s. As the gloom of the Great Depression shrouded the West, Shanghai was basking in the exuberance of an apparent boom. Real estate prices were on fire. Bond and commodity exchanges were thronged with speculators...

The 1930s witnessed one of the most flood-filled periods of China's recent history. Deluges were recorded in 1930, 1931, 1932, 1933, 1935 and 1939. Most devastating were the 1931 Central China Floods, ranked by some as the deadliest natural disaster in human history. Inundation from major rivers including Yellow River, Yangtze River and Huai River drowned some 400,000 people - even if some estimates ran as high as 4 million. Almost a quarter of China's population was affected and 28 percent of the country's farms were destroyed...

The traditional view of the Great Depression's impact on China centered on diminished exports. But China's crisis had more to do with Japan's invasion, the flooding and the hot money in Shanghai...

The price of silver had been on steady decline in the global market since late 19th Century because of the establishment of the Gold Standard. In China, however, silver fetched a higher price, attracting sellers from around the world.

The influx of silver caused a credit expansion that helped China complete its first wave of industrial development, argued Tomoko Shiroyama in China During the Great Depression: Market, State, and the World Economy, 1929-1937...

China has undergone a lot of changes since the 1930s. Yet, when comparing the impact of the economic crisis now and then, it's not difficult to find parallels.

In both cases, China's currency - the silver in the Gold Standard era and the not fully convertible Renminbi today - played a decoupling role. In both, foreign investment helped economic development before both crises hit...

To make sure, this author wrote: Strangely, the 1932 Shanghai War had no significant impact on Shanghai's vibrant business scene. The war disrupted the financial market but the buzz resumed almost immediately after the ceasefire.

This fact proves that the Imperial troops of Japan defended the prosperity of Shanghai with Western residents engaged in business in international Concessions of Shanghai, against reckless military invasion of Shanghai by Chinese troops.

Anyway, Shanghai's prosperity in 1930's was based on very unique condition as with today's Chinese economy, though in a far larger scale.

And, it is a Japan's security policy (with the pacifist Constitution) that provides a framework in which Chinese businesses can peacefully enjoy great investments domestically and from abroad, like in 1930's.


SECTION III: America or China?

Some Americans stupidly started to use the term G2 before the Lehman Shock, though nowadays they look like feeling ashamed about stressing the term G2.

Anyway smart guys in the world started to regard America as being on the same level of China but not China as being on the same level of America.

One of them must be Japan's Prime Minister Mr. Yukio Hatoyama. In this context, he is the first Japanese Prime Minister that trusts future of China more than the current state of America.

Yet, China has no pacifist Constitution unlike Japan whose Constitution forbids the Government to make war.

Article 29. The armed forces of the People's Republic of China belong to the people. P.M. Mr. Hatoyama might lack some commonsense if he simply thinks America is bad and China is good.

But, Americans stressing the term G2 look like being die-hard loopy.

Right Man in the Right Place

Mr. Akio Toyoda was at Davos for the (sinful) world economic forum early in this January.

Then, he was forced virtually to fly to Washington D.C. to attend a cool hearing in the Congress.

Mr. Yoichi Masuzoe, globally nameless but domestically the most supported virtual next prime minister of Japan, left the former ruling party the Liberal Democratic Party to pursue his own way for the top leader of Japan.

And, now Ms. Sarah Louise Palin is not in Alaska but in tea parties here and there.

The place where you are in at a critical moment might decide your fate, though Secretary Mrs. Hillary Rodham Clinton was in Hawaii when the great earthquake hit Haiti.

(That is why I do not like to be in a TV station in Tokyo at any moment.)


SECTION I: How Much Is America Disliked?

Washington Post might be thinking that it wisely put down Japanese Prime Minister Mr. Yukio Hatoyama.

On the other hand, P.M. Mr. Hatoyama said to LDP President Mr. Sadakazu Tanigaki in a session of the Japanese Diet, "I might have been a foolish prime minister as so criticized. But, I have an idea and a resolution to fix the matter by the end of May..."

All the very-rich Japanese like America, except Prime Minister Mr. Yukio Hatoyama.

Among all the Japanese Prime Ministers since 1950's, the current P.M. Mr. Hatoyama is outstanding in that he does not look like liking America as he is trying to abolish an old plan bilaterally agreed on between the former Japanese Government and the U.S.

Last Devember, the head of the anti-American party the Social Democratic Party of Japan (SDP) threatened P.M. Mr. Hatoyama, saying that she would cancel the coalition, leaving the Hatoyama Cabinet, so that Mr. Hatoyama's DPJ would lose a majority superiority in the Upper House, unless Mr. Hatoyama should fight against America in terms of U.S. military bases in Japan. As a result, P.M. Mr. Hatoyama changed his initial policy to accept the old agreement with America on relocation of the U.S. Marine Corps' Futenma air base in Okinawa. Then, the Hatoyama cabinet started to take a weaving course, with its approval rate falling down to a 20% level.

In addition, Mr. Ichiro Ozawa, who virtually controls a majority of DPJ lawmakers, supports the head of the SDP, leaving no choice for P.M. Mr. Hatoyama but to accept the SDP's claim. P.M. Mr. Hatoyama is thus trying hard to move the U.S. Marine air base out of Okinawa, abolishing an old plan, agreed on between the LDP regime and the U.S. Government, to move it to a less populated area on the Okinawa island.

As a consequence, P.M. Mr. Hatoyama is under criticisms on behalf of the SDP, a very minor anti-American party, and Mr. Ichiro Ozawa, a very veteran pro-Chinese lawmaker since 1969.

But, if Mr. Yukio Hatoyama, a grandson of the founder of tire maker Bridgstone Corp. which legally fought against Ford around 2000, liked America like other very-rich Japanese, the situation should be very different.

What has made Japanese Prime Minister so anti-American must be a key issue for Japanese and American journalists, though he studied in Stanford University for several years in 1970's to get a doctor's degree and met his future (Japanese) wife in San Francisco.

And, symbolically, Mrs. Miyuki Hatoyama was born in Shanghai in 1943.

Anyway, being anti-American might be a very luxury allowed to some Japanese who are rich and secured enough not to envy the rich and the power of America.



SECTION II: Wars and Wars till 1937 in China

Without mentioning great turmoil in the wake of fall of the Ching Dynasty, the Chinese Civil Wars fought between the Kuomintang (KMT or Chinese Nationalist Party) and the Communist Party of China even after the death of the Chinese revolutionary hero Sun Yat-sen (Son-Bun in Japanese) in 1925 as follows:

So, China before WWII did suffer great casualties not only due to the war with Japan but also because of endless battles among Chinese themselves that continued even after WWII.

For example, in the Fourth Encirclement Campaign in 1932, Chiang Kaishek (Sho-Kaiseki in Japanese) mobilized actually one million troops in 15 divisions, but the Chinese Communist Army destroyed three of the 15 divisions to escape the encirclement. Yet, it is not clear how many poor Chinese citizens and farmers were involved and sacrificed in these battles between the warring Chinese camps.

Whole China before 1937 had been already in a chaos of wars. And, the Empire of Japan had no plan to invade and occupy whole China, though it maintained its interest in Manchuria and Shanghai relying on its own military forces.

Anyway hatred to Nazi Germany should not be diverted to the Empire of Japan, since the Empire (and even General Hideki Tojo) saved the lives of tens of thousands of Judaists before and during WWII around Manchuria and Shanghai.

There is a specific word in Japanese "Guchoku" against "Oroka."

"Oroka" simply means foolish or loopy.

But, "Guchoku" means being stubbornly honest even looking like a fool.

Some say that Prime Minister Mr. Yukio Hatoyama meant that he is "Guchoku" but not "Orokoa," thus Washington Post is wrong.

However, it is rare that a Japanese woman is described as being "Guchoku."

Probably, being "Guchoku" does not make a woman look pretty.

Yet, a wife had better be "Guchoku" rather than "Oroka."
