"through the towns, preaching the gospel" - About Animation People

The Tokyo Station

About Animation People

Walt Disney (1901-1966) was once betrayed by Ub lwerks (1901-971) who contributed to creation of various animation characters such as Mickey Mouse.

Iwerks one day left Disney due to some controversy with Walt Disney to establish his own business but failed.  Iwerks was a good  character designer but lacked a sense to cope with the trend of the society.  But, later Iwerks returned to Disney to be specialized in technical aspects of animation creation.

Walt Disney was sometimes betrayed and duped while his business was expanding before WWII by New York-based business men some of whom even hired some staff out of Disney to cut the ground out from under. The case of Iwerks was one of such examples. However, Walt Disney accepted Iwerks back to the Disney studio.  Iwerks contributed to Disney films such as Mary Poppins of 1964.

The success of Walt Disney was mainly made possible by his passion in creating animation films and other works, including the Disney Lands.  However, if he could not forgive Iwerks, such feeling must have been reflected in his works with negative effects.  Then his works must not have become so popular especially among children.

Anyway, the most impressive thing about Walt Disney is this episode involving Iwerks who had betrayed Walt Diseney to leave him but was later allowed to return to Disney.

By the way, John Alan Lasseter who contributed to Toy Story, Frozen, and other recent Disney works was highly influenced by Hayao Miyazaki's wotk Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro of 1979.  Miyazaki is a Japanese artist globally popular for his animation works.

Miyazaki once criticized Disney works for their lack of respect for the audience from a standpoint of professional in the same trade.  But nowadays Miyazaki changed his view on Disney, praising high quality of their works.

In the field of animation, people need to have generous minds and tolerance even to their rivals.

"shake off the very dust" - God-Believing Japanese Politician before WWII

Around the Tokyo Station

God-Believing Japanese Politician before WWII

In Japan, Korekiyo Takahashi (1854-1936) is even today respected as one of the most successful and competent politicians before WWII.

He was well know for his remarkable work as the Vice Governor of the Bank of Japan to get investment from European countries and the US during the Japan-Russo War (1904-1905) and also as the Minister of Finance during the financial crisis in 1927.

He became a friend of the Rothschild family and kept good relationships with some financial leaders in Europe and the US.  So, Takahashi was a pro-Anglo-Saxon politician in the Empire of Japan before WWII.  Takahashi also delivered criticism to the expansion of excessive armament of the Imperial Army and Navy.

In 1921, he was appointed to the prime minister of the Imperial Government.  In that era, the Imperial Army stationed many troops in Manchuria.  Takahashi said at the time that the Empire sent troops to Manchuria to defend the Empire (including Korea) from aggressive invasion by Russians.  He stressed that the Empire of Japan should not have territorial ambitions in Manchuria and China.  He was critical of attitudes of some Japanese against Chinese, because Takahashi thought there had been a mood in Japan of despising China since the First Japanese-Sino War (1894-1895) where the Empire defeated the military of the Qing dynasty.

Korekiyo Takahashi wrote some essays where he admitted that he believed in God, though he did not mind the form of worship.  Though Takahashi was taught Christianity by an American priest when he was a teenager, he did not openly confess that he was a Christian but he thought that God was above any religions.  However, as militarism and nationalism came to gather momentum in Japan in 1930s, Takahshi became a target of radical military officers as an enemy of the Japanese race.

Accordingly, in the February 26 Incident of 1936 where some young Army officers tried to take over power from the Cabinet with full of "rotten" ministers, as they claimed,  Takahsahi was shot to death.  This semi-coup d'etat finally failed as the Emperor was strongly against insurgent officers and troops, because they killed or attacked Takahashi and other ministers the Emperor trusted.

However, the Imperial Army could not solve its problem involving many young officers who had strong criticism toward and complaints to the Japanese political system at the time.  And, after the February 26 Incident of 1936, the leaders of the Imperial Army intensified their operation in Manchuria and China as if they had been trying to divert the brunt of criticism from unsatisfactory officers to oversea military operation.  On this trend, the second Sino-Japanese War started and eventually the Pearl Harbor attack was carried out.

So, the assassination of Korekiyo Takahashi in 1936 became a foreboding of the tragedy of the Imperial Japan joining WWII, since Takahashi was a kind of Christian, pro-Anglo-Saxon, and compassionate with Chinese.  The Empire of Japan in WWII was almost totally against the Christian world, the Anglo-Saxon nations, and China.

Anyway, Korekiyo Takahashi has been the only Japanese prime minister, to date, who wrote in an essay that he believed in God.

"neither have two coats apiece" - A Murderer and A Priest

Around Tokyo

A Murderer and A Priest

John Grisham's novel The Confession was translated into Japanese and one Japanese reader read it to post his opinion.

The reader was finally puzzled by the motivation of Travis for his confession to a priest in Kansas of his murder in Texas for which an innocent African American youth was to be executed as the tragic victim of false accusation.
In 1998, Travis Boyette abducted and raped Nicole "Nikki" Yarber, a teenage girl and high school student in Slone, Texas and buried her body in Joplin, Missouri some 6 hours from Slone. He watches unfazed as the police arrest and convict Donté Drumm, a black high school football player with no connection to the crime. Despite his innocence, Drumm is convicted and sentenced to death. He has been on death row for nine years when the story takes place. While Drumm serves his prison sentence, lawyer Robbert "Robbie" Flak fights his case while Black Americans protest his false conviction, creating a law and order situation.
Meanwhile, Boyette had fled to Kansas and had lived there ever since. He had been suffering with brain tumor for the past nine years and his health had deteriorated. In 2007, with Drumm's execution only a week away, reflecting on his miserable life, he decides to do what is right: confess.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Confession_(novel)

In the story, eventually Travis escaped the police after his confession of the murder in Texas and his help to find the dead body of the victimized girl.  Then, he called the priest in Kansas who had helped save Donte, though in vain, telling that he was alright and his brain tumor was not fatal.

The Japanese reader could not find a clear motivation for Travis to reveal his hidden crime, since Travis was not actually dying.  (Travis attacked another young woman, while being at large, to be arrested in the end of the story.  So, he was not fatally ill.)

In my estimation, Travis wanted to have access to the pretty wife of the priest.  As a strategy, he confessed his murder in Texas to the priest to have the priest get interested in him and get more chances to go to the church and see the wife of the priest.  But, he could not succeed in penetrating into the church.

Meanwhile, the priest came to strongly feel a kind of responsibility for saving Donte.  His zeal influenced Travis who thought that leaving the half-way house, against law, for Texas with the priest to save the African American youth might not be a bad idea, since if he had been fully released from the half-way house after expiration of his term, he would have had no special merit.  And in Texas, he was also influenced by hot enthusiasm of the lawyer and his aids in trying to save Donte.  Travis was overwhelmed and could not get away from them.  So, he led them to the place where he had buried the dead body of the girl, though soon after it he ran away.

It was a desire of Travis to the pretty wife of the priest that first brought him to the church and made him confess his crime as a mean to have access to the couple.

The key to reality of this story is involvement of the priest and his faith.   God looked like using the mean criminal Travis to reveal the truth of cruelty of death penalty and racial prejudice.

So, the Japanese reader may well not understand how a bad man can be sometimes influenced by strong faith and passion of a Christian priest or a true Christian priest, if he has the pretty wife, since most of Japanese have never been to church and never been acquainted with Christian priests.

"Jesus to those Jews which believed" - Typhoon No.10 Moving from East to West

Tokyo Station

Typhoon No.10 Moving from East to West

For the first in the Japanese history, a typhoon has moved from the east to west on the Pacific Ocean immediately south of the Japanese Archipelago.

It is Typhoon No.10 (Lionrock) that finally landed yesterday on the Pacific coast of the Tohoku (northeast) region of Honsyu Island after it turned around at the sea area east of Okinawa Island (the southernmost major island of Japan) and moved from the southwest to the northeast, following back to the direction it had taken from the east to the west two weeks ago or so.

http://malaysiagazette.com/en/world/typhoon-lionrock-hit-japan%E2%80%99s-tohoku

Typhoons usually have access to Japan from southwest to northeast.  But most probably for the first time in the written history, a typhoon has moved to the opposite direction.

Maybe a great warning for global warming or something about Japan it must be.

"many believed on him" - Intelligence of God and the Mankind

Around Tokyo

Intelligence of God and the Mankind

What are our bodies, animals, plants, rocks, water, air, etc. made of?

Essentially they are materially made of protons, neutrons as well as electrons.  Only these three elementary particles are the building blocks of everything in the nature and the universe except some mysterious matter such as dark matter.

However, protons, neutrons as well as electrons cannot be directly observed, captured, or stored.  At one level up in the material stratum, we can identify the origin of everything around us: hydrogen.

Any other atoms and elements are made through nuclear fusion of hydrogen atoms, which mostly occurs in fixed stars such as our sun.  Gold, silver, copper, iron, etc. were all produced through chains of nuclear fusion starting from hydrogen. And, any common matter and substances such as water, stones, plants, chemicals, metals, proteins, various molecules, etc. were produced through chemical reaction of atoms whose original forms are hydrogen.

Hydrogen can be observed, collected, and stored in the form of the hydrogen gas each molecule of which consists of two hydrogen atoms: H2.  But indirectly hydrogen is observed in water, since one molecule of water consists of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom.  Water is a kind of another form of hydrogen, though accompanied by oxygen.

The sun is a great ball of hydrogen burning in the nuclear fusion process.  We can see the state of nuclear fusion of hydrogen in the sun, though other atoms produced by hydrogen nuclear fusion are also in their nuclear fusion process deep in the sun.

So, from the sun to water, everything essential to our life is directly made of hydrogen atoms; and our bodies, animals, plants, chemicals, metals, etc. were all results of nuclear fusion and chemical reactions that started from hydrogen atoms.

So, our material world and universe are really the hydrogen type.  And, can it happen by chance?  Without a grand design, can it be possible?  Apparently this hydrogen dominant universe and world cannot be a result of random and infinite-time trials of creation of material universes and worlds.

God must have designed it and successfully created the whole hydrogen-based universe just in one Big Bang.

And designing is mental work based on intelligence.  Therefore, in this context, God resembles the mankind in that He has at least a human-type of intelligence.  Or more correctly, the mankind was given a part of intelligence of God.  Therefore, the mankind is responsible for God in terms of how they use intelligence given by God.

The more intelligence a man is given, the more responsible he is before God.

The Sun exudes a constant stream of hydrogen, called the "solar wind."

"Jesus, thou Son of God" - Haiku Master Basho in Summer Mountains

Tokyo Bay

Haiku Master Basho in Summer Mountains

Once Basho, a notable haiku poet in Japan in the late 17th century, traveled from Edo (Tokyo) to Mutsu, the vast local region northeast of Edo.

It was travelling to observe nice and interesting scenery and create haiku poems, since Mutsu was then with full of mountainous and seaside nature in addition to farming villages through paths of hundreds kilometers.

In a mountain area, Basho was walking up and got absorbed by a flood of buzzing of cicadas, since it was mid-summer.   The sun was high, the mountains and fields were full of green, the air was hot, and cicadas were naturally and loudly buzzing to add the heat to the air.

Basho saw a wall of rocks on the road side.  It stood there in the contrast against trees and other thick green plants.  He felt that the buzzing of cicadas was incessantly hitting the surface of the rock wall.

But suddenly Basho realized that nothing was heard except the buzzing of cicadas in his environment.  Rather, he felt how widely spreading the buzzing of cicadas was over the air where no other sounds existed.  Then, he could catch silence of the environment through the buzzing of cicadas or through a very short momentary pause of the buzzing in its vibration.  Yes, he found that cicadas were making noises in the middle of stillness in mountains.

Then he felt that the buzzing of cicadas was penetrating in the rock wall that stood still and the buzzing also forcibly penetrating into his mind.  The more the sound was penetrating into the rocks, the more the stillness in the air covered by the buzzing could be sensed.

So, he made a famous haiku poet facing mountains near and far and listening to the spredaing buzzing of cicadas:
Oh what mountain stillness revealed
by the deeply seeping into the rocks
of the buzzing of cicadas so hot.

Cicadas were not trying to hide the stillness.  But as it was essentially so still in the mountain, they made noises fully without restriction.  It is as if the stillness in the mountain used the so many cicadas buzzing so as to make Basho realize the deep and vast stillness
Matsuo Bashō (1644 – 1694), or Matsuo Chūemon Munefusa was the most famous poet of the Edo period in Japan. During his lifetime, Bashō was recognized for his works in the collaborative haikai no renga form; today, after centuries of commentary, he is recognized as the greatest master of haiku (then called hokku).

Through full of noisy evil things in this world, can we, however, sense silent holiness?

"One of the prophets" - Why God Gave Christianity and Islam to Mankind

Tokyo

Why God Gave Christianity and Islam to Mankind

Interestingly, the Koran denies the deity of Christ Jesus and teaches that He was not God.
What does Islam and the Quran say about Jesus?
O People of the Book! Commit no excesses in your religion: Nor say of Allah aught but the truth. Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) a messenger of Allah, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary, and a spirit proceeding from Him: so believe in Allah and His messengers. Say not "Trinity" : desist: it will be better for you: for Allah is one Allah: Glory be to Him: (far exalted is He) above having a son. To Him belong all things in the heavens and on earth. And enough is Allah as a Disposer of affairs. (4:171,Yusif Ali)

Christ the son of Mary was no more than a messenger; many were the messengers that passed away before him. His mother was a woman of truth. They had both to eat their (daily) food. See how Allah doth make His signs clear to them; yet see in what ways they are deluded away from the truth! (5:575, Yusif Ali)

The Jews call 'Uzair a son of Allah, and the Christians call Christ the son of Allah. That is a saying from their mouth; (in this) they but imitate what the unbelievers of old used to say. Allah's curse be on them: how they are deluded away from the Truth! (9:30, Yusif Ali)

https://carm.org/what-does-islam-and-quran-say-about-jesus
However, Christianity is a religion based on belief that Christ Jesus is God.  How can this be possible that Both Christianity and Islam have been prevailing in parallel for more than 1300 years?  And, have leaders of both the religions to solve this discrepancy in cooperation?

It is time for Christians and Muslims to discuss this matter: Why do Christians believe that Christ Jesus is God while Muslims deny it, and why do not Muslims believe that Christ Jesus is God while Christians believe it?

And, what proof will Christians present to support their belief that Christ Jesus is God, and what proof will Muslims show to uphold their belief that Christ Jesus is not God?  There must be hot discussions and contention between them.  But they must address and solve this issue, since this is one of the most important issues for the mankind.

The answer is, however, in the truth we have to admit that God is almighty and God is the Lord of the mankind.  He can make Christians believe that Christ Jesus is God and, at the same time, make Muslims believe that Christ is not God, since God is almighty and God is the Lord of the mankind.  But, there remains another question: Why does God do so?

From the beginning, God could have shown himself as a mighty king or emperor leading a million troops to Judaists and Roman troops in Palestine in the first century but not as a son of a mere carpenter.  Or Gould could have appeared as a mighty king or emperor leading a million troops to Muhammad and Arabs in the seventh century without using His angel to send His messages to Muhammad.

So, we have to think about why we have just such history as has ambiguous and non-conclusive incidents involving God, as seen in the cases of Christianity and Islam.

For example, there is the law of gravitation in the nature.  Anyone can confirm it by dropping an apple or any other objects from his hand to the ground.  We can confirm it that the law of gravitation works in the nature.  But we cannot confirm existence of God in such a manner.

However, for Christians and Muslims to discuss why they have different views on Christ Jesus must be useful to deepen our faith in God, hopefully.  Those without true face will not like such discussions and not be interested in it from the beginning.  But those who really love God and true faith must want to address this issue.

Why did God give Christianity and Islam to the mankind, in addition to Judaism?  This is the issue that the mankind must address in total cooperation.

"and he was restored" - 200-Year Long National Isolation of Japan

Around Tokyo

200-Year Long  National Isolation of Japan

The most remarkable incident in the Japanese history is that Japan closed the door to most of foreign countries from 1639 to 1854 during the Edo era when Japan was governed by the shogun, the head of the samurai class, whose castle was in Edo (Tokyo).

During this period of the national isolation, the samurai government allowed only China and the Netherlands to trade with Japanese merchants at Nagasaki in Kyusyu, the westernmost major island of Japan, while the shogun accepted a diplomatic mission form the Kingdom of Korea once in a few decades.   And, under this policy of the national isolation, no Japanese were allowed to leave the nation, and no foreigners were allowed to enter Japan.

It means that while Europeans were busy conquering the world and America was rapidly developing, Japan was almost separated from the global trend.  Incidentally, China was promoting trade with European nations in this period, which however resulted in the tragic Opium War in the middle of the 19th century.

One of the reasons for the shogun, who was from the Tokugawa clan, to adopt this national isolation is to stop Christianity from spreading in Japan, making Japanese people disobedient to shogun authority.  Another reason is that the shogun was afraid that local feudal samurai lords might strengthen economy of their territory and come to have power to compete with the Tokugawa clan.

Christian missionaries who came to Japan between the middle of the 16th century to the early 17th century were all Catholics.  Farmers, townsmen, and even samurais edified by Europeans missionaries looked like having more loyalty to the Vatican and God than the ruler of Japan, the shogun.   So, the shogun and other top samurais were afraid that Japanese Christians might touch off the revolt.  And actually, there occurred a large scale revolt in Shimabara, Kyusyu, in 1837 where about 40,000 farmers led by Christian leaders fought against local samurai lords.  To suppress this revolt, the shogun had to send generals from Edo (Tokyo) and mobilize more than 100,000 samurai troops.  The shogun and samurai leaders found extremely strong religious power in those insurgents.

So, Portugal ships were forbidden having access to Japan in 1839, though the diplomatic tie with Spain had been already cut in 1624.  But, the Protestant nation, the Netherlands, which supported the shogun troops in the Shimabara Revolt, was allowed to barter with Japan, though only at one port of Nagasaki.

It is also said that at the time many poor Japanese women were sold to Spanish or Portuguese missionaries who further resold them to Western colonialists in Asia, etc.   The shogun government tried to stop this human trafficking and decided to prevent Spanish and Portuguese missionaries and merchants from  having access to Japan.

However, when the U.S. Government sent a mighty fleet to Edo (Tokyo) Bay, requesting the samurai government of Japan to open the nation in 1850s, this isolation policy was abandoned.  But, it led to derogation of the shogun authority, a subsequent civil war, and the fall of the samurai regime in 1868.

Consequently, the samurai camp that defeated shogun's forces established a new government with the emperor at its center, which is called the Meiji Restoration.  Then, modernization and Westernization of Japan started along with acceptance of Christianity that however took some time.

This 200-year long national isolation influenced national characteristics of the Japanese people.  Even today, for example, Christians or church goers account for only 1.5% of the total population of 120 million.

But ironically, many of ex-samurais who had belonged to the Tokugawa clan turned to Christians after the Meiji Restoration.  They needed new spiritual support to live in the new society where ex-anti-Tokugawa samurais occupied dominant positions in the Meiji Government.   It is estimated that not a few today's Japanese Christians have ancestors who were ex-samurais on the Tokugawa side.

"Where is your faith?" - Unique Empress Jingu of Japan

Tokyo

Unique Empress Jingu of Japan

There is one unique empress in the Japanese history.   Empress Jingu is the wife of the 14th Emperor Chuai who is thought to be one of imaginary Emperors depicted in the old history book Nihon Shoki.

The Nihon Shoki (The Chronicle of Japan) was  completed in 720 as an official history book of the imperial court.  It contains not only imaginary emperors in early periods of the history of the imperial court but also myths that link the imperial family to gods.

Accordingly, the 14th Emperor Chuai is thought to be one of imaginary emperors the authors of the Nihon Shoki created to make the imperial court appear to have a long history.  But, there is still arguments as to whether or not Empress Jingu really existed in an early period of the imperial court history.

Specifically before the end of WWII, children in Japan were taught that Empress Jingu really existed and she led troops to conquer the Korean Peninsula, though her husband Emperor Chuai died of a diseases in Kyosyu while preparing for invasion of Korea.

Japanese nationalists after the Meiji Restoration of the imperial authority in 1868, when the last samurai regime fell, respected the Nihon Shoki as a kind of sacred book, since it is the only remaining imperial history book written when the imperial court had been in the Yamato area (presently Nara Prefecture) before moving to Kyoto in 794.  And, they believed historical existence of Empress Jingu and thus her conquest of Korea.

It is said that this notion of Empress Jingu and the conquest of Korea by her became an underlying motivation of the annexation of the Kingdom of Korean into the Empire of Japan in 1910, though there must have been more realistic reasons for the annexation such as precaution against and prevention of annexation of Korea by China or Russia.

Empress Jingu is treated respectfully in the Nihon Shoki that allocates one independent volume to her, though it is only emperors that are given independent volumes in the Nihon Shoki.  Empress Jingu is literally in a class of herself.   There are no other empresses depicted so much as Empress Jingu in the Nihon Shoki.  So, there must be specific reasons.

The key is found in the Nihon Shoki itself.   It has an annotation in the volume allocated to Empress Jingu that an ancient Chinese imperial court mistook Empress Jingu as the queen of Yamatai in its history book.

Yamatai is an ancient Japanese territory where queen Himiko lived, according to the Chinese history book called the Book of Wei written in the sixth century.   The Book of Wei told that Japanese queen Himiko asked diplomatic and military support of the emperor of the Northern Wei of China in the third century.  Himiko sent a mission to the Nothern Wei, and the Chinese emperor replied to her with many gifts such as bronze mirrors.   Since Yamatai where queen Himiko lived looks like a Chinese expression at the time of Yamato, where the Japanese imperial court had been situated, it is natural to regard Himiko as one of ancestors of the Japanese imperial family.  But the authors of the Nihon Shoki did not take this supposition.  Instead, they wrote about Empress Jingu with the interesting annotation in the Nihon Shoki.

So, the description of Empress Jingu in the history book Nihon Shoki about the early Japanese imperial court shows the strong will of the Japanese imperial court in the early eighth century that Japan had never been subject to China (like Himiko as reported in the Book of Wei),  and Japan had once conquered Korea (though the Japanese imperial court had had a strong tie with one of Korean kingdoms before the eighth century that had lost a war against a coalition of China and another Korean kingdom to disappear from history while Japan had militarily supported the kingdom).

That is why Japanese nationalists who respect the imperial court and the Nihon Shoki never respect China and Korea even today, without mentioning Japanese nationalists before the end of WWII.

Interestingly, before the Meiji Restoration in 1868, when modernization and Westernization of Japan started, Empress Jingu had been regarded as one of female emperors who had been set up in some rare cases in the history of the imperial court.  But, in 1926, Jingu was officially excluded from past emperors to be positioned as empress, though very unique as depicted in the Nihon Shoki.

Incidentally, the kanji letter used for Jin of Jingu means a god and that for gu of Jingu means fame.   And, any other emperors with names where the kanji character meaning a god is used are highly regraded emperors such as Emperor Jinmu, the first emperor of Japan according to the Nihon Shoki.

"ye shall die in your sins" - Land Temperature vs Sea Temperature in Global Warming

Pacific Ocean coast southwest of Tokyo

Land Temperature vs Sea Temperature in Global Warming

The land temperature of the earth has not been increasing at such a fast rate in these years as it had been till 2005 or so.

Global Temperature timeseries, with land and ocean components
https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/sotc/global/2014/13/supplemental/page-4

But the temperature of the deep sea is increasing steadily.
More than 90% of global warming heat goes into warming the oceans, while less than 3% goes into increasing the atmospheric and surface air temperature.  Records show that the Earth has been warming at a steady rate before and since 1998 and there is no sign of it slowing any time soon (Figure 1).
Fig 1
http://www.skepticalscience.com/global-warming-stopped-in-1998.htm

And the amount of CO2 in the air is also steadily increasing:
Mauna Loa CO2
http://www.pmel.noaa.gov/co2/story/Long+Term+CO2+Trends

Energy the mankind has used for maintaining its civilization is eventually discharged to the air with CO2.  So, day after day and night after night, the source of global warming, the used energy with CO2, is being discharged to the air.  Human civilization is the source of the global warming.

And, now mysteriously, the temperature on the lands on the earth is not increasing as much as the temperature in deep oceans.  Most of CO2 is dissolved into the sea, while the capacity of the lands to absorb CO2 might be reaching their limit.  If the capacity of the seas for absorbing CO2 should come to their limit, what would happen?  The temperature of the air might be drastically increasing.

However,  another ice age can come to cancel out the effect of global warming.  But it must be in very unstable conditions.  The future of the mankind will be surely under threat.

"I am not of this world" - The Issue for 2000 Years

Fukushima City, Japan

The Issue for 2000 Years

The issue is simple: Whether there is the after life or not.

Christ Jesus preached on the assumption or with confidence that there is an after life for every one.  Or He preached based on the notion that there are Heaven and the hell.

However, as everybody knows, one dies and his/her body is disintegrated after his/her death.  Then how can the one live an after life or go into Heaven or the hell?  And, as everybody knows, the answer is that the soul of a man leaves his body when he dies, entering the spiritual world.

(However, there are some descriptions in the Bible that the dead come to be revived with their flesh.)

So, to believe in Christ Jesus means to believe existence of the afterlife, Heaven, and the hell.  And, to believe in Christ Jesus is to believe that souls of bad men go to the hell after their death and souls of good men enter Heaven after their death.

But why cannot human beings see the spiritual world, Heaven, and the hell, while they are alive in this world?  If people could see clearly how terrible and horrible the hell is, most of them would avoid evil while they are alive.  But nobody can see Heaven and the hell while they are living in this world.

This is the most important issue for the mankind.  Only one can do is to believe the words of Christ Jesus, live honestly and avoid evil, and hope that he or she will be accepted into Heaven.  This is the rule God set for the mankind.  But why did God set it as such?  Why must this world and the other world be separated from each other?

For 2000 years after Christ Jesus came to this world, the mankind or the Vatican has been thinking about it.  But it cannot present a reasonable answer to the world.  It is time for us to concentrate on this issue.

"let the dead bury their dead" - Western Societies and Islamic Societies in Parallel?

Mt. Fuji facing Typhoon these days, from around Tokyo

Western Societies and Islamic Societies in Parallel

There are many parables and teaching Christ Jesus delivered 2000 years ago.  But remarkably, most of them are still effective and meaningful.

Likewise, teachings of the Buddha and Confucius who lived 500 years earlier than Christ Jesus do not lose meanings today.  It should be also noted that the Book of Exodus that contains the commandments given through Moses was written 500 years before Christ Jesus.

And these teachings and the commandments are all related to humanity that did not change for thousands of years.  But today, this paradigm of human ethics and morals are going to change drastically.

Indeed, with advancement of the modern society and development of commercialism, people are exposed to the social trend where economy and business are given the highest priority.  Expansion of economy and business gives riches to a great majority of people who are hired by businesses or trading with them.  And, expansion of economy and business are promoted by a great majority of people who spend money to buy goods.  And to make a great number of consumers buy goods and services, businesses and industries are arousing lust in them through TV commercials, Internet advisement, etc.

In enkindling desire of consumers, those businesses and industries neglect teachings of Christ Jesus, Confucius, the Buddha, and Moses.  Modern science helps attach little importance to old religions and those teachings.

In the era of global economy, this trend of neglecting old teachings of ancient saints is being intensified especially in countries and regions under strong influence of Western culture and Western monetary/financial systems.   Not only the E.U. and the Anglo-Saxon dominant nations, but also Japan, China, India and most of non-Islamic Asian countries are being influenced by this trend.

However, Islamic nations have different conditions.  The Islamic society of each Islamic nation is still under strong rule of the religion Islam that does not allow Muslims to neglect teachings of the Koran and pursue modern commercialism.

However, there are more than 20 million Muslims living in the EU.  It means there are so many Muslims living in rotten Western societies without resistance and insurgence, though they do not abandon their religion.  If those Muslims are truly following the teaching of the Koran, they probably cannot live in rotten Europe.  Or, there might be still room in the capitalistic and commercial E.U. for Muslims to live without being critically offended.

Although Islamic nations in the Middle East do not actively adopt Western systems and culture, some other Islamic nations such as Malaysia and Indonesia are looking like accepting Western style of business though with some strong restriction on factors that can have critical influence on their Islamic societies.  These countries have not been geographically in direct contact with European powers.  Their societies also include more various types of people in culture and religion than the Middle East Islamic nations.

Therefore, only Muslims in the Middle East Islamic countries might have reasons to stand against Western nations for religious reasons.  In this context, Islamic terrorists have gained bases and home grounds in these countries.

Such terrorists are worse than rotten Westerners or Europeans and Americans.  But, they are parallel with expansion of negligence of old teachings of saints in Western Europe and East Asia.  Or from a different viewpoint, evil force working in Europe, America, the Anglo-Saxon dominant nations, and East Asia to make peoples corrupt and degraded is working in the Middle-East Islamic nations to make some Muslims allured to use of violence and terror.

States of rotten and degraded societies are not so easily and clearly felt.  But, states of violence and terror of countries can be easily and clearly realized.  The sate of terror in the Middle East might be indication of how rotten and degraded the Western societies are.

Put simply, we have to see how corrupt and degraded the Western countries are when we see how cruelly and madly Islamic terrorists are harming people and damaging societies in the Middle East.

"Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest." - Samurais and Emperor of Japan

Tokyo

Samurais and Emperor of Japan

Emperor Meiji (1852 – 1912), personally called Mutsuhito, of Japan was born and raised in Kyoto.

Before the Meiji Restoration of 1868, the imperial family and court nobles had lived in Kyoto without political power while the samurai shogun in Edo (Tokyo) had governed the whole Japan as the head of the samurai class.  Accordingly, the environment where Mutsuhito was living had been full of old fashioned tradition of literature and art without a pragmatic sense of politics and business.   Mutsuhito had never experienced outdoor training of martial art like sons of samurai families.

But, when he was a teenager, a revolution occurred in Japan.  The Tokugawa clan, whose head had assumed office of the shogun for 250 years, was defeated by the anti-Tokugawa samurai camp through a civil war.  The cause of the revolution was that the Tokugawa government could not well cope with the trend of the era when Western powers such as the US, the UK, France and Russia requested Japan to abolish its closed-door policy and opened the country.  The shogun decided to open the nation and concluded a diplomatic treaty with the U.S.  But, this act was taken as a sign of weakened power of the Tokugawa government by anti-Tokugawa samurais, so that they launched insurgence, taking the imperial court on their side.  Accordingly, when the Tokugawa regime fell through the civil war, revolutionary samurais set a new government with the emperor at its center.  Therefore, this incident is called the Meiji Restoration (of the imperial authority).

However, Emperor Meiji had not been trained to be the supreme leader in politics and military in the new government.  He had been raised mainly by female members of court nobles in Kyoto.  So, when the young Emperor moved to Tokyo, the new leaders of the Meiji Government, namely ex-samurais, worried about the state of the mind of Mutsuhito.   They decided to introduce a kind of samurai way of living into the imperial court in Tokyo.  Female members of court nobles were dismissed around Mutsuhito; instead, ex-samurais were appointed to chamberlains and officials of the Imperial Household Ministry.  The atmosphere around Mutsuhito drastically changed from the literature/art-oriented aristocratic circle to the circle influenced by samurai discipline.

As time went by, ex-samurais successfully turned to modern bureaucrats and politicians.  They established the modern Imperial Army and Navy.   However, the basic spirit of the Meiji Government was strongly and deeply rooted in the samurai spirit.  The Meiji Government that was founded by anti-shogun samurais was actually, at its core, another samurai government that took over power from the Tokugawa clan, though it introduced modern systems and customs to modernize and westernize Japan.

Though the Empire of Japan had various democratic systems before WWII, including the universal election system (for males only), its underlying spirit and ideology were extension of those in the samurai era before the Meiji Restoration.  This situation was only changed when the Empire was defeated by the US in WWII and the US introduced the American style democracy based on American Christianity into Japan.

And, with the samurai spirit gone, the imperial family abolished its custom and style influenced by samurai-spirited elites since the Meiji Restoration.  In other words, Emperor Showa, a grandson of Emperor Meiji, severed his spiritual connection with militarism based on the samurai spirit.   It came to symbolize the characteristic of Japan after WWII.

The emperors of Japan after the Meiji Restoration of 1968 till the End of WWII in 1945 were surrounded and influenced by ex-samurais or descendants of ex-samurais whose basic mind sets were in extension of those of traditional samurais who were primarily warriors.

Conversely, ex-samurais or descendants of ex-samurais successfully turned the emperors of that era to a kind of samurai rather than the head of peace-loving court nobles.

That is why Japan cannot be easily understood by the world in terms of its nature before and after WWII.  The Japanese people are also embarrassed when they are accused of tragic incidents in East Asia in or before WWII caused by the Imperial military, since they have now almost nothing to do with the samurai spirit that was working on the whole Japan in the era.

So, it is unthinkable that current Emperor or future emperors of Japan become the head of the Japanese military, since the Imperial Family is not a samurai family traditionally.

"Having eyes, see ye not?" - Anti-Christ Olympics

Tokyo

Anti-Christ Olympics

The world is getting worse.

Athletes in the Rio Olympics look almost half-naked, which is anti-Christ.  Commercialism supported by advanced technology and modern systems has intensified human desire so that people would buy more products by spending more money, which results in big profits of businesses.  It uses TVs.  Advertisement is one of major functions of TV for commercialism.  Everything displayed on TV must serve commercialism so that they present desire-raising objects such as half-naked athletes.

What is called liberal or progressive in the US is directed to the same direction as commercialism.  Both the progressive political movement and  the modern commercialism are moving away from the conventional code of conduct and ethics, thus heading for an anti-Christ world.

It is dangerous.  Freedom is important.  But if all the human desires are freed, there would be no salvation of souls.  This is new evil, though the conservative political systems and the old Christian church systems cannot fully conquer old evil that is mainly caused by the gap between the rich and the poor.  The new evil is more crucially related to negligence of the teaching of Christ Jesus and God such as a need to fight back a desire.

Without freedom, there is no love.  But freed desire has nothing to do with love.  The modern global culture led by American-style commercialism is at a dangerous stage as half-naked athletes have become a common landscape in Olympics broadcasting.

"For nothing is secret" - Japan and the UK

Tokyo

Japan and the UK

The two island countries at both the ends of the Eurasian Continent, Japan and the UK, have the royal families.

As the UK faces the continental Europe, Japan faces the Asian continent including the Korean Peninsula, the mainland China, etc.  Civilization came to Great Britain through the continental Europe just like civilization came to Japan from ancient China.

However, though the UK needed to venture into the world through oceans to enrich living of the British partly because the nature of Great Britain was not so rich, Japanese did not find such a need, since the nature of the Japanese archipelago was rich enough to sustain a level of civilized life.  Indeed the UK is a northern country but Japan is situated mainly in the Temperature Zone, though it faces Siberia over the Sea of Japan.

There are many differences in characteristics between the tow nations, but there are also some common features.  And one of them is conservatism in terms of a monarchical system.  While the mainland Europe and China have experienced revolution many times, both Japan and the UK have avoided drastic revolution at least on the permanent basis.

Even in terms of religion, there are some similar features.  The English church is independent of the Vatican, while Japan has its unique shinto religion and its version of Buddhism.

And, as Japan has been a critical challenge to China especially in the modern history, the UK might be regarded as such by other continental European nations.  So, it might be natural that the English people do not like to be completely absorbed by the EU, since the Japanese people feel so different from the Chinese people.

And, it is good for other peoples in the world that they can avoid facing the too strong unified western Europe or the too strong league of Japan and China.  Even American political leaders would not like to deal with such powerful entities.

So, the world is well balance with Japan and the UK being reasonably separated from the continent each faces.

"because we have no bread" - The Origin of Mistubishi

Enoshima Yacht Harbor, southwest of Tokyo

The Origin of Mistubishi

The founder of the Mitsubishi business group of Japan is officially Yatro Iwasaki (1835-1885).

He was a son of a samurai of the Tosa han (a han is a semi-autonomous territory of a feudal samurai lord subject to Tokugawa shogun who governed the whole Japan).   Iwasaki himself served as a samurai under the Yamaguchi clan, whose head was the lord of Tosa (presently Kochi Prefecture).  Young samurai Iwasaki worked as a kind of intelligence officer, since the era at the time was moving to a civil war of Japan between the Tokugawa shogun and anti-Tougawa samurai camp, which eventually resulted in the Meiji Restoration of the Imperial Authority.

The Tosa han led by the Yamaguchi clan was a kind of neutral between the Tokugawa camp and the anti-Tokugawa camp.  But it was also eager to enrich its financial state and strengthen its influence in the turbulent politics of Japan that was going to be split up by pro-Tokugawa hans supporting the rule by the samurai shogun from the Tokugawa clan and anti-Tokugawa hans  led by the Chosyu and Satsuma hans.  Major hans, along with the Tokugawa clan, were trying to enrich their economy through trade mainly with Western countries, since the Tokugawa administration abolished the close-door policy, which had lasted since the early 17th century, in 1850s.

Against this background, samurai Iwasaki was sent to Nagasaki, a big port city in western Japan that was getting a major trade center for Japan at the time.   Merchants from Europe and America launching trading business with Japan were mainly based on Nagasaki that had been the only designated port open to limited trade partners, specifically Portugal and China, of the Tokugawa regime with the closed-door policy.  Iwasaki was ordered to help trade activities of the Tosa han led by Sakamoto Ryuma who was working as an active business and political middleman between the major anti-Tokugawa hans of Chosyu and Satsuma, though Sakamoto was originally from the Tosa han.

Sakamoto was a kind of revolutionary samurai.  He had established a strong tie with a British merchant to import thousands or more rifles and other weapons as well as ships.  Sakamoto also operated a merchant ship from his business base in Nagasaki.  His business activities were authorized by the Tosa han, and Iwasaki came to Nagaski to join Sakamoto Ryuma.   Later or after the Meiji Restoration in 1868,  Yataro Iwasaki came to operate his own maritime company, which was virtually an extension of Sakamoto's business.  And Iwasaki's maritime business has never ceased to grow in subsequent centuries to date, which is now known as the Mistubishi business group in the world.

However, Sakamoto Ryuma, a kind of Iwasaki's benefator, could not survive to live in the Meiji era that started with the fall of the Tokugawa samurai regime.

One day Sakamoto left Nagasaki and Iwasaki, heading for Kyoto after arranging purchase or selling of 3,000 rifles to the Tosa han.  In Kyoto where at the time shogun Tokugawa Yoshinobu was stationed, Sakamoto contributed to Yoshinobu's decision to concede, though nominally, the administrative power to the imperial court supported by anti-Tokugawa samurais.   It was a big historic incident, and for this reason, Sakamoto Ryuma is described in history text books in Japan as one of the greatest heroes of the Meiji Restoration.  But, several weeks later, Sakamoto was assassinated in Kyoto by samurais under the authority of shogun Yoshinobu, though it is still a mystery who had actually issued an order of the assassination of Ryuma who was widely known as one of key figures in the tense situation before the civil war that would start around Kyoto several weeks later after Sakamoto's death.

It is not clear how Yataro Iwasaki felt when he heard that Sakamoto Ryuma was assassinated.  But it is known that after the assassination of Sakamoto, Iwasaki was remarkably promoted by leaders of the Tosa han to take control of Tosa han's trade business as if succeeding Sakamoto, which later led to the establishment of Iwasaki's own maritime business.

Incidentally, the Tosa han joined the anti-Tokugawa camp to fight Tokugawa troops.  They became a part of winners of the civil war.  Ex-Tosa samurais took higher positions in the new Meiji Government.  Iwasaki's business was steadily expanding after the Meiji Restoration, though there were some challenges waiting for the future great Mistsubishi Corporation.

Put simply, the origin of Mitsubishi was the assassinated samurai Sakamoto Ryuma rather than Yataro Iwasaki.

"bring forth fruit with patience" - The Fear of God

Rice Fields around Tokyo

The Fear of God

The only thing we have to remember is that we have to have the fear of God as expressed by Muslims in their manner of praying to Allah.

If we have nothing to be afraid of, we might do any damage onto others and the society, since we wrongly believe that nobody could punish us.

People grow up to know that this world is full of evil men and evil deeds.  People come to know that most of rich and successful people pretend to be good, honest, and humane, but they are truly not.  They pretend to be good and  acceptable to succeed in the society.  They just hide their desire and evil nature.  When people realize it, they would also take similar strategies.

However, if people come to believe that God sees inside of every man and He will judge every man based on His observation, they will not live like that, because they are afraid of God.

Of course, there are some people who really love to live good.  Without the fear of God, they will avoid every evil as much as they can.  But this is the matter of all the mankind that include  vicious guys.  And, God wants all the mankind to live good.  And, the mechanism that makes even the most vicious guys live good is the fear of God.  Nothing can be comparable with the fear of God, if people correctly understand God.  To get rid of this fear, even the most vicious guys would live good, as long as they correctly understand God.

But, even the least vicious guys would not try to live good, if they don't believe existence of God and thus they don't have the fear of God.

So, Satan is just making people not believe God, so that they will not have the fear of God.

God is absolute existence.  He has absolute authority and power.  Whatever He does is just and right, though sometimes we cannot fully understand why tragedies happen in the society and in our individual lives, due to the limit of our ability.  To consider God in this way is the first step toward salvation of our souls.

"and bring no fruit to perfection" - Rather than Blame or Deny God

National Diet Bldg., Tokyo

Rather than Blame or Deny God

We have to be humble before God, which means that we must not blame God for any reasons.

For example, a Russian plane recently bombed a hospital in a Syrian city, which left mane dead bodies of the wounded, women, and children.  In this case, we must not blame God because God did not save the lives of those killed.

Or in another example, a big earthquake and subsequent tsunamis killed more than  18,000 people in Japan in March 2011.  In this case, we must not blame God because God did not save the lives of those killed.

If people in Syria had followed perfectly the teachings of God for decades or centuries, there should not have been the Syrian crisis.  It is because Syrians should not have allowed the dictatorship by the Assad family and Syria must have had a democratic government years or decades before.  Although Syrian women and children killed had no responsibility, they are victims of their nation and responsible Syrians that did not obey the teaching of God.  But as God is almighty, He must save the souls and spirits of those victims.

And, if the Japanese people had taken more seriously past tsunami disasters in the same regions as those attacked by the tsunamis of 2011, they could have reduced the number of victims.  In a sense, God gave warnings enough, but the Japanese people were not fully prepared for the coming disaster.  And, many innocent old people, women, children, etc. were killed by the tsunamis.  But as God is almighty, He must save the souls and spirits of those victims.

Put simply, we cannot blame God because there are so many tragedies and victims in the world.  God can save souls of any victims, although  He rarely interfered with tragic incidents in the human world.  And those tragic incidents can be prevented if we have followed the teaching of God for decades or centuries till they actually occur.

Nonetheless, Christ Jesus said that those who cause tragedies where others suffer, get victimized, or fall into temptation should be blamed.

We had better blame bad guys who are real villains responsible for a series of events and situations that lead to a specific tragedy than blame or deny God simply for the occurrence of the tragedy.

"the third part of the sun was smitten" - Signals from the Spiritual Universe

Tokyo Station

 Signals from the Spiritual Universe

The Bible depicts that a holy spirit like dove came a down from the Heaven onto Christ Jesus on the Jordan River.  Christ Jesus Himself told that spirits came from the Heaven like wind, though where they were directed was unknown.

So, like radio receivers, our brains or minds receive spirits from Heaven.  But, our brains are made of molecules and atoms with small but many electric signals generated in the networks created by brain cells made of molecules and atoms.  So, what parts of these material brains can receive spirits?  What physical forms do these spirits take in the physical spaces of our brains.

It must be working like the dark matter and the dark energy that must come from the 4th dimension or outer space to work on our 3D universe.  Force from the 4th dimension to our 3D universe should work effectively in the 3D universe, but we, living in the 3D universe, cannot see the source of the force, since we cannot see the 4D universe.  We can only see effect of the force coming from the 4th universe into this 3D universe.

Like it, we can see results of our receiving spirits from Heave, another outer universe, in a sense.  We cannot see the source of spirits, which is Heaven.

The point at issue is that we have to believe existence of the spiritual universe or Heaven like we have to believe existence of the 4D universe or the outer physical universe in the case of handling the dark matter and the dark energy.

However, Christ Jesus seems to have been able to see even the spiritual universe and Heaven while He was living in this world as a son of man.  And, people around Him must have been able to get a glimpse of the spiritual universe.

But nowadays, we are surrounded by so many industrial products.  We see display screens of TV sets and smart phones but not try to get a glimpse of the spiritual universe.  We must be getting dangerously less spiritual.  And, as those high-tech products are manufactured for interest of businesses, they are contaminated by money.  In other word, TV sets, smart phones, etc. might be easily turned to tools of Satan.

So far only the networks of our brain cells can receive signals from the spiritual universe, but the Internet does not.

"the third part of the sea became blood" - Origin of the Japanese Imperial Family

Tokyo

Origin of the Japanese Imperial Family

The origin of the Japanese Imperial Family is not clear.

However in the 5th century, five Japanese kings in series sent missions to a Chinese dynasty at the time.  They claimed in their letters to Chinese emperors of the dynasty that they occupied a half of Japan and a half of the Korean Peninsula.  They requested the Chinese imperial court to authorize them as kings of the territories they had conquered and occupied.   Contents of their letters were recorded in an old Chinese official history book.

And, in the 6th century, the imperial family apparently established their power over a half of Japan with their imperial court set in the Yamato region, east of Osaka and south of Kyoto.  In 607, the then king of Japan sent a mission to the imperial court of the Sui Dynasty of China.  Contents of the letter the mission brought to the Emperor of Sui were also recorded in an old Chinese official history book.  In this official letter, the king of Japan declared that the king of Japan was at the same imperial position as the Chinese emperor on an equal base.   At least, since this period, the Imperial Family continued their uninterrupted history to date.

Put simply, it looked like true that the Imperial Family established their power over a half of Japan in the 5th century as proved by those letters sent by the Japanese kings to Chinese emperors.

And it was in 720 that the first Japanese official history book, Nihon Shoki, was completed with myths and local folk lores included.  And around this time, the king of Japan started to call himself "Emperor" (ten-no), though using different kanji letters than the Chinese word of "Emperor" (ko-tei in Japanese).  Nihon Shoki became the most important material that proved divine authenticity of the Imperial Family, and no other clans or groups of people have successfully challenged this authority to date.

However, according to another Chinese official history book, the Book of Wei compiled in the 6th century, there was a queen in Japan in the 3rd century who lived in the Yamatai country (probably the Yamato region) and controlled northern Kyusyu facing the Korean Peninsula over channels.  At the time, a Chinese dynasty occupied most of the Korean Peninsula, so that the queen tried to ask help from the Chinese dynasty as she was at war with another country in Japan.  As this incident was described in the Chinese official history book, the Japanese history book Nihon Shoki also mentioned this queen called Himiko, but Nihon Shoki did not admit that she was an authentic  queen of Yamato.  They claimed that the Chinese author of the Book of Wei mistook an empress of Japan as Queen Himiko.

The oldest episode about a Japanese king is found in a Chinese official history book called the Book of the Later Han compiled in the 5th century.  The Book told that as a Japanese king had sent a mission to the Han Dynasty, an emperor of Han gave a gold seal to the Japanese king, who was actually called the King of Wa, in AD 57.

Japanese did not leave written records or write history books till Nihon Shoki (and Kojiki, another history/myth book compiled almost at the same time with Nihon Shoki) compiled in the early 8th century, though some books written earlier seem to have been lost.   So, to know situations in Japan, old Chinese official history books should be referred to.  And, according to those Chinese books, the Imperial Family of Japan might be rooted in the King of Wa who lived in the 1st century, in the oldest possible case.

As other evidence of establishment of the Imperial Family of Japan, kings who set their capitals in the Yamato region and around Yamato in the  3rd to the 7th century built huge tomb mounds or mausoleums such as the Nitoku Ryo Mausoleum whose length was 840 m (half a mile), whose width was 654 m, and whose height was 36 m, one of the largest tombs of kings in the world.  In this period, local chiefs also built large huge tomb mounds.  This practice ended after Buddhism was introduced into Japan in the 6th century.   But to construct such huge structures, kings needed strong control over people.  Therefore, it is thought that the Imperial Family established their power base between 3rd and the 7th century.

Yet, nothing else was clear about the Imperial Family of Japan except descriptions of Nihon Shoki and Kojiki, compiled in the early 8th century, which included myths that were written to link ancestors of the Imperial Family with gods.

And, according to the myths, a god came down from Heaven to a mountain in the Hyuga region (Miyazaki Prefecture) in east Kyusyu Island.  And, from Hyuga, the first emperor of Japan Jinmu advanced to Yamato through northern Kyusyu over about 1,000 km distance around 660 BC to establish the Imperial court there.

So, the Imperial Family of Japan is closely linked to the Japanese unique religion Shinto.  The origin of the Imperial Family must be in Shintoism.  Incidentally, even today there are about 100,000 shinto shrines in Japan, including minor ones in small villages and towns.

"until the waters were dried up from off the earth" - Boy Barefoot Gen in Hiroshima of 1945

Boy Barefoot Gen in Hiroshima of 1945

There was a famous cartoonist or a manga creator who depicted the tragedy of the Hiroshima atomic bomb.
Barefoot Gen (Hadashi no Gem) is a Japanese manga series by Keiji Nakazawa (1939-2012). Loosely based on Nakazawa's own experiences as a Hiroshima survivor, the series begins in 1945 in and around Hiroshima, Japan, where the six-year-old boy Gen Nakaoka lives with his family. After Hiroshima is destroyed by atomic bombing, Gen and other survivors are left to deal with the aftermath. It ran in several magazines, including Weekly Shōnen Jump, from 1973 to 1985. It was subsequently adapted into three live action film adaptations directed by Tengo Yamada, which were released between 1976 and 1980.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barefoot_Gen
This series of comic books have been translated in various foreign languages.

The most heart-breaking matter about the Hiroshima atomic bomb attack is that survivors had to sometimes face discrimination in the Japanese society because the ignorant public at the time thought that victims of the atomic bomb had special disease that might contaminate others.

Especially girls who survived the atomic bomb attack had to conceal the fact that they were among victims.  The public wrongly thought that those girls could not bring sound and healthy babies into life.  For this reason, many women did not file an application to the public office to receive special aid money for atomic bomb attack victims.

The US military did not use atomic bombs in battle fields.  They dropped onto Hiroshima and Nagasaki, big cities of Japan, in the summer of 1945.  And each atomic bomb alone devastated each city.  It suggested future usage of nuclear weapons.  They could destroy easily not only enemy military bases but also large cities and major infrastructures of enemy nations in just one-time launching of attack.  Using nuclear weapons means not only for winning a war but rather for annihilation of citizens in cities of enemy nations.  It is beyond any justification if a war is fought for any material or economic interests.

Now, there is another fear that terrorist might obtain nuclear weapons to use them in cities in Europe or America.  If they should blast a nuclear bomb in a Western city, its impact would be 100 times more than that of the 9/11 Terror of 2011.

So, it is reasonable that President Obama has pursued significant reduction of nuclear weapons in the world if not total abolition.

Today, still there are about 60,000 survivors of the 1945 atomic bomb attack in Hiroshima, whose average age is 80 years or more.  Most of characters depicted in the cartoon work Barefoot Gen must have gone in these 71 years.  However, the lessons learnt from Hiroshima of August 6, 1945, must be alive.

Gen 8:6 And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made:
Gen 8:7 And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth.
Gen 8:8 Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground;

"my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy" - The Last Mystery of the Universe

Tokyo

The Last Mystery in the Universe

The mankind is the only living thing that has ability to think of God or the Creator of this world.

If an animal is put in a cage, it would not think who built the cage and why it was built.  But, human beings, in a sense, put in the earth can think who created the earth and why it was created.  And, some human beings have found the right answer: God created the earth to have the mankind emerge on it.

However, there are other people who do not admit that God created this universe, the solar system, and the earth.  They argue that this universe, the solar system, and the earth all came to exist by chance.  They might admit all the findings by scientists, but still they claim that  this universe, the solar system, and the earth all came to exist by chance.

Such people think that there is some mysterious mechanism that generated this universe.  And, the mechanism, they think, exists for itself.  But, they cannot answer why the mechanism exists or they simply assert that it exists by chance.  They think that ultimately everything, including this whole universe, exists by chance or everything is a product of randomness.

This way of thinking is dangerous, because it means that there is ultimately no value system.  There is no meaning in good and evil, since everything exists ultimately by chance.  Men get born, live and die for nothing.  Whatever they do, there is no authority in the universe that judges them.  In this thinking, everything has relative value, since there is no ultimate value system.  Accordingly, they will do any evil things behind the scene to satisfy their desire.

But if you believe that there is God behind this universe, you would like to know what God is.  If you believe that God created this universe, the solar system, and the earth for some purpose, you would like to know it.

And, the most reasonable answer is that God created this universe, the solar system, and the earth in order to create human beings thorough development and evolution of the nature of the earth.  It means that you admit that human beings belong to God.  Human being must follow the teaching of God.  And since God teaches men to live good, they will avoid evil things.

Now among human beings, there are two types of people: one denies God and another believes God.  However, a manner to deny God is not so simple.  There must be various ways and modes of denying God.  Likewise, a manner to believe God is not simple, either.  There must be various ways and modes of believing God.  For example, even the Pope might not believe in God.  Or, even some homeless people might believe in God.

God created this universe to create human beings and have them believe in Him.  And, if all the human being believe this truth, the purpose of God for creating this universe must be fulfilled.

But why does God do it?  It is the last mystery of the universe.

Mat 8:5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
Mat 8:6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
Mat 8:7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
Mat 8:8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
