Ranking of Desirable Tourists: Another Truth


The news that has gained topicality in these days in Japan is a result of survey on quality of tourists a British tourism organization conducted and the news agencies PA and Kyodo distributed.

According to the result, the ranking on nationalities in terms of quality of tourists:
1st - Japanese supported by 65% of respondents of the research
2nd - Americans supported by 30%
3rd - Swiss supported by 18%
...
...
3rd from the last - Chinese
2nd from the last - Indians
Last - French

Now, you know who good neighbors are to the world. However, Japanese are not Christians at all. Not Judaists at all. Not Muslims at all. Yet, Japanese are good neighbors to the others in their traveling all over the world.

I really believe that the God or Allah will take this into account when He judges this age.

One of terrible things in the international relationships is prejudice.

Once German women toured through Africa, specifically, in a region in the south of the Sahara. They carried a grand piano with them. They intended to play Mozart on the piano in Africa so that they can see if Africans can appreciate and understand beauty of the music. I suppose it is before WWII that these German women made this tour to confirm how senseless Africans were.

A British professor who had worked as an intelligence officer during WWII visited Japan after the War and made a sight seeing in Kyoto and Nara, Japan's old capitals since the eighth century and the fourth century, respectively. He told a Japanese student that he for the first time understood the reason why Japanese troops had been so strong in WWII. In Japan with full of modern industries, the British professor observed old cultural treasures, such as temples and Buddhist images well preserved for more than 1000 years, and realized the depth of Japanese minds and hearts as well as traditions of the unique civilization with a quality of social order and administration (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H%C5%8Dry%C5%AB-ji).

Two decades ago or so, when a Japanese castle built by a samurai clan at the beginning of the 17th century was nominated for a World Heritage, some European academic researchers thought such a large-scale castle in Japan must have undergone various repair work in its most part and thus had no value as a cultural heritage. They did not trust Japanese who put such a castle on the nomination. But, when they came to Japan to check and evaluate the castle, they found the 400-year old castle was well preserved and showed expertise of Japanese traditional architecture. Accordingly, the Himeji Castle was registered as a World Heritage in 1993 (http://www.tabian.com/tiikibetu/kinki/hyogo/himejijyo/).
Indeed, if prejudice did not trigger a war, people could be easily mobilized to a war when they have prejudice. It applies to both Americans and Muslims.

Yet, ordinary British people, especially in the tourist industry, seem to like Japanese (who respect Newton, appreciate Shakespeare, and love Princess Diana), Americans (their frank and candid relatives), and Swiss (with higher credit), though French may be a little too proud, Indians remind them of past colonial problems, and Chinese are still under communist regime without receiving sound education from a global point of view.

Indeed, God hides certain truth from learnt and proud Europeans and European Americans, but He has presented it to ordinary and faithful Europeans and European Americans.

Japanese corporate members, especially those working in a big city like Tokyo and Osaka, have been forced to work until late at night.

It is partly due to globalization of economy which has forced companies to cut labor costs. (Unlike in the 20th century, nowadays there are many non-permanent employees in every company in Japan.)

Nonetheless, even before the globalization of economy, it has been very common for elite employees to work until late. Elite bureaucrats are also no exemption.

They work until 8 p.m., 9 p.m., 10 p.m., or further later. Accordingly, main night news programs or news-show programs broadcast by Japanese TV stations start at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. (NHK), around 10 p.m. (TV Asahi), around 11 p.m. (NTV, TBS), and even at 11:30 p.m. (Fuji TV).

(However, some domestic satellite TV channels and cable channels offer 24 hour news broadcasting in addition to foreign TV stations viewed in Japan.)

One of them, last night, spotlighted Sudan.

According to the "Failed States Ranking" (http://fundforpeace.org/programs/fsi/fsindex2006.php), among 146 countries surveyed Sudan is the worst in terms of mounting demographic pressures, massive movement of refugees, legacy of vengeance - seeking group grievance, chronic and sustained human flight, uneven economic development along group lines, etc.:

As usual in this kind of ranking, European countries, especially Scandinavian countries are appraised highly.

Sudan has been known as a country struggling with cruel civil war. But, its crude-oil reserves have been recently highly appreciated and caught the strong attention of the world. Ironically, however, it has simply intensified cruelty of its civil war (http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/02/23/africa/AF-GEN-Chad-Darfur-Farrow.php).

One unusual aspect on the state of Sudan is influence and involvement of China, a major oil importer from Sudan (http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070511/wl_asia_afp/sudandarfurunrest).

Today in the capital of Sudan, Khartoum, Sudanese who cannot speak Chinese reportedly cannot find a nice job.

As China takes care of Sudan and the U.S. takes care of Afghanistan and Iraq, it may not be so strange that Japan takes care of China and the U.S. according to the order of the above "Failed States Ranking"; the better should take care of the worse, of course, even in this context.

Or, the reason why Sudan, Iraq, and Afghanistan are ranked so badly high may be the taking care of those countries by China and the U.S.

It could be a good lesson for Japan.

This new type of super-rich people are often said to have one common character, aspiration to wealth which can be achieved through leveraging entertainment and popularity.

If their ambitious dream is confined in one sector of industries, it may be not so harmful; but if it expands to a certain non-nonsense international arena, things might work different, since what you need therein is not a talent to leverage entertainment and popularity but a will to make a decision and act according to a will of God.

Then we have to wait for the Messiah.

Recently, some Japanese TV news programs focused on the renewed rise of Taliban and production of opium in Afghanistan where local lives got deteriorated after the forced collapse of the Taliban regime, though its capital Kabul seems to enjoy some Western culture, good or bad.

According to information on Afghanistan provided by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime:
- The total plant area of poppies is 165,000 hectare or 407,715 acres in 2006.
- The total production of opium in 2006 is 6,100 tons (one and half times larger than in 2005; accounting for 92% of the world opium production).
- 6 states (in the south) among 34 states of Afghanistan have no regulation on opium.
- The price per kilograms is 576 dollars in January 2003; 146 dollars in April 2006.

And, although there are 12 million illegal immigrants in the U.S., there are, in a sense, only 11 million work forces in Afghanistan, but "as much as one-third of Afghanistan's GDP ($32.4 billion) comes from growing poppy and illicit drugs including opium and its two derivatives, morphine and heroin, as well as hashish production (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afghanistan)."

"Those who have hidden and accommodated terrorists should be equally attacked" might be a big mistake.

"Those who have hidden and accommodated terrorists should contact the U.S. Government for more lucrative deals than they had cut with terrorists" should have been a right approach.

In fact, it is well known that Al-Qaeda spent big money to win Taliban's favor.

Al-Qaeda and Taliban did not share the same view on the world and the United States. In reality, Taliban started to negotiate with the U.S. for dismissing Al-Qaeda, banning poppy farming, and launching a big oil pipeline project before the summer in 2001.

However, by having demolished the large statutes of Buddha in Bamiyan early in 2001, Taliban lost sympathy and support from other countries, especially Asian countries including Japan.

It might have been inevitable that the U.S. started the military campaign in Afghanistan after the 9/11 terror; indeed, it seems to have succeeded in stopping another terror on the U.S. that is operated from a terrorist base in Afghanistan.

The U.S. did not start the military campaign in Afghanistan in order to make Afghanistan rich, but would it be a nice result that they have now more poor farmers and more opium production in Afghanistan than ever, though Al-Qaeda seems to have lost its intention and capability to launch another attack on the U.S. from Afghanistan?

We cannot judge it. But, American citizens have actually decided to support the approach of "not minding poor and opium-contaminated Afghan people but just minding destruction of Al-Qaeda's bases in Afghanistan."

Only the God will judge righteousness in the decision of US citizens through history, especially, in near future.

When Herman Melville wrote "Moby Dick" in 1851, the first Anglo-Afghan War finished, but the war was to be repeated twice more until 1919.

Then the U.S. got involved behind the scenes in the Afghan Holy War against the Soviet Union. The U.S. funded and trained anti-government and anti-communist Muslims.

In the wake of 9/11 terror, the U.S. opted for military solution to deal with Al-Qaeda. The Taliban regimes collapsed, but the fact is that the most of Taliban soldiers just returned to their homes in local poor villages in this US-Afghan War still unsettled.

In ancient days, namely even before Abraham left Ur, Mesopotamia and Indus Valleys had a commercial tie.

Ideally, oil rich Iraq and Iran should peacefully tie up with regional leading economy India as well as their Islamic friend Pakistan through Afghanistan.

If the current situations in Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India lead to this ideal alliance in near future, the current US involvement in this South West Asia may be justified and appreciated.

Or, the current US involvement in this South West Asia must be aimed at helping achieve the ideal peaceful alliance among Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India.

As Afghan GDP is 32 billion dollars (one third of which is from opium business) and US budget on the War on Terror is 145 billion dollars for FY 2008, it would not be difficult for the U.S. to double the wealth of Afghanistan and thus eradicate opium in and terror influence on the apocalyptic country.

Finally I hope the best and brightest among US citizens will tackle the challenge to save poor women, children, and farmers in Afghanistan.

Otherwise, another Ishmael out of the Melville's prophecy, instead of another Alexander the Great, might exploit the situation in the war-torn region.

In December 2003, "JUDAISM: A Very Short Introduction" by Norman Solomon (http://spruce.flint.umich.edu/~simoncu/165/judaism.htm) was translated by Mr. Tetsuo Yamaga and published in Japan.

I do recommend this book especially to Japanese in whose country only scores of converts to Judaism live among its population of 120 million.

It is always thrilling to see how a non-nonsense Israelite thinks about Jesus Christ.

The story really reflects how Judaism was influenced by Jesus Christ. Its core of the lesson really matches a teaching of Jesus Christ.

No matter how Israelites deny influence on their minds and hearts of teaching of Jesus Christ, Israelites after the emergence of Jesus Christ and the first century completely changed from their ancestors in and before the critical era.

In anything newly developed or performed by Israelites since the first century in terms of culture and religion including Jerusalem Talmud and Babylonian Talmud, there must be such influence, as Norman Solomon wrote that Judaism in a sense followed Christianity as the two critical Talmuds were compiled and completed around or by the sixth century.

(Influence of Jesus Christ on Jewish-Roman Wars is also a critical issue, though conventionally completely denied. Emergence of Jesus Christ, Jewish-Roman Wars, and establishment of two Talmuds are in one chain reaction the God intended.)

As the color of majority of Israelites changed from dark olive to white, their religion changed from classic Judaism to Christ's-teaching-underlined Judaism especially when Khazar Kingdom converted itself to Judaism in the 8th century.

Jesus Christ may be also regarded as having been the Messiah to Israelites for these 2000 years. He must be a super hero for Israelites, too, though so secretly or unconsciously, since foreigners had made Him their hero earlier, which caused a great psychological obstacle to Israelites after the first century.

(Israelites must be secretly proud that one of their blood brothers conquered the Roman Empire and Europe, and has been revered as God by Europeans and Americans, though Nazis' atrocity on them should be analyzed at a higher level than they have ever done.)

Another interesting issue is the beginning of the history of Israelites, that is, 3760 B.C. Israelites claim that the human history started some 5760 years ago; thus year 2007 is anno mundi (AM: since the Creation) 5767 for Israelites.

- The total amount of business on diamond worldwide is 26 billion dollars.
- Two thirds of the diamond transactions are now carried out in India.
- Once the world No.1 diamond business center was Antwerp, but now is Surat in West India.
- Following Surat are Tel Aviv, Singapore, and Antwerp in terms of diamond transactions.

Mr. Ushioda got the above information from Mr. Aftab Seth, the former Indian Ambassador to Japan.

Mr. Ushioda's concern is however on the features of a bubble the Indian economy is now taking on, with 40% or so yearly rise in land prices in Mumbai and Bangalore.

Japan has purchased almost 50% of all investment trusts issued for India.

Therefore his main worry is about influence on Japan of possible troubles in the Indian Economy that is expected to grow this year by 9%.

As I once mentioned, what is necessary in India is electricity in poor villages and families which constitute the majority of the Indian population.

However, the shift of the center of diamond business implies something important: the gravity center of the world economy is moving toward the east.

In the great Asian region from Persian Gulf States to India, China, and Japan, a great potential of economic and social development lies, though challenge can be still bloody and uphill, with terror, great disasters, social and political corruption, nuclear crisis, and wars going on and feared.

However if terror, great disasters, social and political corruption, nuclear crisis, and wars are all solved and addressed, the whole region can be prosperous without intervention by Europe.

The economic power of the whole region combined will surpass that of Europe.

It may be "dream come true" for Asians who have been put under Europeans for centuries.

Before 1492, when Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas, a total amount of gold possessed by Europeans was only less than "20 tons."

Therefore, the report by Marco Polo about gold-rich Japan around the 13th century was not so inaccurate, since Japan actually exported gold to China in those years.

Japan had gold enough to buy any necessary cultural products from Western countries when it opened the door to the world in the late 19th century.

However, almost no elites in the U.S. and Europe, including prominent economists and politicians, seem to know this fact and its significance.

"Once upon a time, there lived a poor, honest, but hardworking young man deep in a mountain. He was living on making and selling charcoal.

One day, a beautiful young lady of a noble family in Kyoto came to his humble house.

She said to the poor charcoal burner that she had received a revelation from the statue of the Goddess of Kannon in the prominent Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto; the Goddess of Kannon told her to marry the poor, honest, but hardworking charcoal burner living deep in the mountain.

Then, the noble young lady asked the poor charcoal burner to allow her to live together in his house.

The poor charcoal burner replied that though he was happy to marry her, he had not enough rice, namely staple diet, for the decent dinner of the day for himself and his new wife

The noble young wife understood it and took out two gold coins from her purse, saying that he only had to go down to a town and buy rice for them with these coins.

So, the poor charcoal burner went out, walking down the mountain along a mountain current. When he came to a deep pool of the current, he found two mandarin ducks on water surface. He stopped and threw the gold coins at the birds that narrowly avoided the attack and flew away. The two gold coins sank deep in water.

The poor charcoal burner, knowing not what to do, came back to his house where his noble young wife was waiting.

When the poor husband told her that he had tried to get two mandarin ducks for her by throwing the two gold coins at them in vain, she got startled especially as she found that her poor husband did not understand what value those gold coins had.

So, the noble young wife kindly and politely explained to her poor husband that a gold coin was treasure in this world and he had done a matter of regret, since the two gold coins could have bought a lot of rice, fish, and birds for the two.

On the contrary, her poor husband got startled, saying that he had never come to think that the two gold coins were so valuable, since such coin-like stones were lying about all over a valley behind his humble house.

The noble young wife again got startled; then the couple went out to the valley to see if those stones were truly gold. They were all gold.

Anyhow, they collected all of the gold stones and piled them up all around their humble house, knowing not what to do with them specifically.

Thenafter many people came to sell goods to and also to work for the couple. Their house got prosperous. The couple built a temple for the Goddess of Kannon in the mountain. Later on, the couple had the sweetest baby girl who grew up and came up to Kyoto and married a noble man. Hence, the once-poor husband came to be called "Charcoal Burner Millionaire."

Without gold Europeans exploited from Central and South Americas, they could not develop their society and build infrastructure for future progress that led to the Industrial Revolution.

In an extreme explanation, Europeans success depended on gold from Central and South Americas in addition to slaves from Africa.

But, in another extreme explanation, Japan's success depended only on its gold and its hardworking people in addition to natural piety and modesty the so-called Christians have traditionally so coveted.

Being European or European American might mean feeling conviction of the said sin.

But, being Japanese might mean being proud of the said justice.

Ms. Hiroko Kuniya of NHK this Thursday night presented Mr. David K. Shipleran, an American Pulitzer Prized author who wrote "The Working Poor: Invisible In America, 2004."

As it is a 30-minute TV program, Ms. Kuniya's interview with Mr. Shipleran could not fully cut the Gordian knot or satisfactorily hit between the eyes, but it well got straight to the point of globalization of economy.

This Wednesday, in Japan's Congress called the Diet, Prime Minister Mr. Shinzo Abe (http://www.kantei.go.jp/foreign/index-e.html) confronted the leader of the opposition party, the Democratic Party of Japan, Mr. Ichiro Ozawa (http://ozawa-ichiro.jp/) in the official "face-to-face debate between party leaders."

The tow top leaders in Japan should have discussed "The Working Poor: Invisible In Japan, 2007."

The debate, conducted for 45 minutes with national broadcasting, was somehow conventional and not breathtaking. Hence, Mr. Hiroshige Seko, the Advisor to the Prime Minister on Public Relations, wrote in his personal blog that Mr. Abe has just won (http://blog.goo.ne.jp/newseko).

But, I found that Mr. Rubin seemed not to clearly understand difference between Japan and Latin American countries while he was in one of the most powerful office in the U.S. Government. Mr. Rubin looks like thinking that as Japan succeeded, Latin American countries should have succeeded; or as Latin American countries failed, Japan should have failed.

Princess Diana could not advance her relationships with an Egyptian nephew of Mr. Adnan Khashoggi, a Saudi billionaire arms merchant.

However, Mr. Amartya Sen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amartya_Sen) married Ms. Emma Rothschild (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emma_Georgina_Rothschild) in 1991 and won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1998 as the first Indian and also the first Asian Nobel Prize winner in this field.

Mr. Sen successfully discussed that poverty is not a simple matter of productivity but related to "market failure." He was also known as an advocate of "human security."

Mr. Sen wrote in one of his papers that Japan's success is deeply rooted into its cultural background, though he does not look like having a deep insight into Japan's history and religion.

Anyway, it may be regarded as an irony that an Egyptian hero could not complete his romance with Princess Diana but an Indian scholar could complete his romance with a daughter of the House of Rothschild.

From a theological point of view, one who owes his wealth to a merchant of death cannot please God; but another who make non-nonsense academic research on poverty may please God, especially if his wife, even if she is from a super-rich clan, studies human security.

In July 2001, Ms. Bettina Stiekel compiled and presented the book "KINDER FRAGEN, NOBELPREISTRAGER ANTWORTEN."

The author once joined a meeting of Nobel Prize laureates held in Germany and got cooperation from twenty or so Nobel Prize winners for collecting Q &A's between the Nobelists and children into a single volume.

One of the questions from a child is "Why is one and one is equal to two?" As mathematics is not included in academic fields covered by the Nobel Prize, a Fields prize winner answered the question.

The mathematician said, "The equation '1 + 1 = 2' means that two is the next number to one; 'From one to two' is a basic of counting."

As I once wrote, "1 + 1 = 1," "1 + 1 = 0," and "1 + 1 = Impossible" as well as "1 + 1 = 1 + 1 for ever" are all possible, if the God has not given a conception of "2" in the Concept Universe which was created before the Logic Universe that preceded the Material Universe in which mankind was born though he or she is actually a mass of atoms physically.

Mankind including Nobel prize laureates should be as humble as a child before God; before materials, concepts and logic must be created for atoms to get together and function as a human being based on "1 + 1 = 2."

US Nobel prize winner in economics in 2000 Mr. Daniel McFadden answered a question from a child as to why there are poor people and rich people in society.

In his answer, he said, "Market economy is probably the best system mankind has ever invented (no matter how many defects the system has); Japan and Germany have implemented various policies to make up for the defects of market economy, specifically preventing poor people from getting poorer."

Of course, the correct answer is that it is because the rich have not love enough to help the poor become as rich as the rich are.

You may also challenge Nobel prize laureates by buying the book at 700 yen (five dollars), though I am not sure if you can find it in a book shop in Los Angeles or New York, for example.

A humane US Attorney General was suffering in a hospital, his deputy was about to leave the Department, and specialists and engineers seem to have been happy being absorbed in their dream project the White House was desperately promoting.

But the real issue might be that present Nobel Prize winners seem to lack the ability to contribute to finding terrorists embedded in US society or potential terrorists growing with twisted mentality.

Can't anybody present an effective means or at least a theory based on advanced science to attain the goal of perfectly preventing terror while fully protecting civic rights of ordinary citizens?

Mr. Shimon Peres, in his Q&A of the edifying book Fr. Stiekel wrote, said that we now live in the era where the media has the strongest power and influence in society and politics (which are supported by technology, science, economics, and textual information).

Yet, it is strange that if the most gifted people will not advance their career in this most challenging field of reporting, presenting, covering, analyzing, commenting, and interviewing critical matters and persons for benefits of all the citizens.

Nobel Prized professors should logically tell their best students to harbor a desire to work in a sector that has the strongest power and influence in society, which is not the governmental intelligence sector but the free and decent media.

About 50 US government agencies share the integrated individual-information database that keeps about 560 million items related to US citizens and residents most of whom have taken a special attention of those agencies, according to a Japanese newspaper.

Tens of thousands of officials of those US governmental departments and institutions are allowed to access the database containing information FBI, CIA and other agencies have collected for prevention of terror.

I suppose this kind of intelligence strategies and operations in the War on Terror should be an issue in the Presidential Election in 2008, since such database can be a source of tragedy and unhappiness of many innocent citizens if handled in a wrong manner.

In the end of WWII, nuclear bomb attacks were carried out onto Hiroshima and Nagasaki in the summer of 1945.

After the Gulf War and during a containment operation against Iraq in 1990's, Al-Qaeda's terror attacks were launched and continued through the 9/11 terror to the present day.

Indeed, when a war continues long and very long at least psychologically, something wrong happens as history has proven.

Some South Asians have been reportedly assaulted and attacked in the U.S. since the 9/11 terror. But, such offence might be further carried out in social systems based on electronics, without being noticed by public.

Especially those with such information will be able to take a strong stance to others, including their rivals who may have nothing to do with terror.

Therefore, as one possibility, when the War on Terror ends, the U.S. society might be split into tow groups: one with detailed information on other citizens and another without it.

The former might form a new elite class in US society with stronger influence and control on the whole people than today's US elites have, which is not good for sound development of democratic and free society.

For example, if you have loved and helped others and these acts are evaluated as one million dollars' worth while you have one million dollars in banks, your chance of entering Heaven is 1 (= 1,000,000/1,000,000). Your chance is 1%.

However, if you have loved and helped others and these acts are evaluated as one million dollars' worth while you have one dollar in banks, your chance of entering Heaven is 1,000,000 (= 1,000,000/1). Your chance is 1,000,000%.

So, I say, "Let's be poor!"

2) W = O/H = (a kind of productivity)

W: wages for a worker
O: output of his work
H: hours in which he has worked

This is a very revolutionary concept only Jesus Christ could present. First of all, people have a right to work and get wages. An unemployed person knows that just having a job makes him so proud of himself. He will never make light of his work. And, this spirit is the most important thing to society and the nation. Money cannot buy such good-spirited citizens; you need culture, traditions, history, and faith (religions).

Moreover, as a matter of principle, it is mean and irreverent for management to show its expression of gratitude to workers by measuring worker's value in terms of a yield and working hours, which would generate more evil than good eventually.

If a prince or a princess of a royal family is working in his company, any president of the business would like to pay to the prince or the princess according to the "W = O/H."

A princess having worked for one customer in an hour (1 = 1/1) per day and a prince having worked for seven customers in seven hours (1 = 7/7) per day, both as a cab driver in Tokyo or New York, will be entitled to the same amount of "basic" wages, say, 50 dollars per day; anyway, the prince should have enjoyed more jokes his customers entertained him with.

One day just before the New-Year Day, the old men went to the town for selling wattle hats; but as it was the year end, nobody bought his goods.

Then he walked back home in a snowstorm. On his way back, he came by a strange plot where six stone images of Jizo, a guardian deity of children, were placed without a roof on them. Snow was falling fast and piling up thick on them.

So, he took out six wattle hats and put each one on each Jizo statute which looked like a standing but meditating monk.

Then he returned to his home and talked about the strange and poor Jizo statutes to his good old wife. And then, as the night came and they had nothing to do, they retired to rest.

But, behold, when a dawn of the New-Year Day was near, here came a line of sleds. It is the Jizo statutes that were driving the sleds with full of treasure on them.

They shouted, "Where is the good old man? Where is the good old woman?" Then, when they came to the house of the good old couple, they dumped all the treasure with a thud on snow at its door.

When the good old man and his good old wife opened the sliding door, they saw the six Jizo statutes coming back to the place where they came from."

"Once upon a time Koubou-Daishi, a prominent and eminent Buddhist priest in Japan 1200 years ago, was traveling alone on foot as an itinerant priest poorly dressed, looking like a beggar.

He taught, helped, and healed many people in various villages.

(Even today, there are more than 5,000 legends on his work to help people all over Japan.)

One night, Koubou-Daishi came into a village. He stopped at a house to request accommodation for the night. But the master of the house, looking at poor clothes the stranger put on, coldly rejected the request without knowing who he was. Koubou-Daishi left the house and went on.

But soon afterward, the master of the house realized who the stranger was. He climbed a zelkova tree and shouted, 'Your Excellency Koubou-Daishi, please come back! Your Excellency Koubou-Daishi!' in vain.

Yet, he continued to shout and cry with his whole heart to become a cicada eventually.

Since then, many cicadas came to fly into the village, perching on the zelkova tree on July 23 every year.

Villagers today still say that the incident must have happened on the day, since so many cicadas perche on the very tree on the very day every year."

According to mainstream historians, there were no "Abraham" and no "Moses," though there might have been a kind of Abraham or a kind of Moses in real history or as historical facts.

How the tribe called Israelites was established is still an enigma and a matter of controversy. Accordingly, they say that there were no "Israelites" before 1200 B.C., though there might have been a kind of Israelites.

The Exodus is also another issue, since no ancient Egyptian records show this kind of large-scale incidents. Accordingly, they say that there was no "Exodus," though there might have been a kind of Exodus.

What is worse, some episodes on "Abraham" in the Old Testament are similar to those on "Isaac."

It is just like historically neither official records nor authentic reports on "Jesus Christ" were made when He was alive or just some time after His death and resurrection except those in the Gospels.

The key must lie in movements and situations in Egypt who controlled Palestine around 1200 B.C.

Pharaohs Ramesses II and Merneptah must be also key figures who governed Egypt around 1200 B.C. when Moses carried out the Exodus in whatever holy manner.

This is the only description about Israel in all the ancient Egyptian documents.

1) "Yahweh" seems to be the name of God Moses and his followers who had fled from Egypt introduced, while "El" is the God's name embedded in "Israel" since the era of Jacob, though it is still unclear how Abraham actually called his God.

3) As Moses, though this name is of an Egyptian origin but not a Canaan origin, was recognized as one of descendants of Abraham, the Israelites who never left Canaan must have welcomed him and followed the way Moses called his God for a certain reason.

3) According to archaeological research, it is these people who appeared around 1200 B.C. in mountain areas of Palestine or Canaan that evolved into the academically identified tribe of Israelites, though influence of the Exodus on them is unclear.

Probably, when Moses, joining other Israelites who had never left Canaan and worshipped "El," displayed to them the mighty power of "Yahweh" (probably linked with introduction of iron weapons which Hittite originally developed), the then low-profile tribe of Israelites got galvanized spiritually and boosted into a major power in Palestine.

Though it is not clearly defined by historians when and how the Exodus occurred, it is regarded as authentic to think that some local people in Canaan established themselves around 1200 B.C. by unifying various and miscellaneous tribes, resulting in creation of the new tribe Israelites so recognized even to the present day without major change in its members (probably except in Khazar around the 9th century).

Nonetheless, there is no authentic explanation who and what Israelites were, if they had historically existed, before 1200 B.C. apart from too vague and fairy-tale descriptions in the Old Testament, according to historians.

The core of Israelites living before 1200 B.C. must be descendants of Sumerians.

In Canaan since the early Bronze Age, there were many towns in its plain areas. However, around 2200 B.C they ebbed away. Nonetheless, from 2000 B.C. to 1600 B.C, towns were again built and enjoyed prosperity.

When Ur and the last Sumerian kingdom in Mesopotamia collapsed around 2000 B.C. after various upheavals which led some Sumerians out of Mesopotamia to Canaan, Abraham and his group settled in Canaan around 1900 B.C., in my opinion.

In these proceedings, they lost original Mesopotamian traits and adopted a local language and culture; they became completely Semitic except the faith in the God of Abraham's family.

However, they underwent a decline period being involved in wars and conflicts between various powers including Egypt, Hittite, Assyria, and so on; In this period, some of Abraham descendants must have been forced to move to Egypt.

But, behold, Moses and his followers came out of Egypt with mighty iron weapons and the new name of God "Yahweh" to join their relatives having been driven unfortunately to the mountain areas of Canaan.

From this stage, history presents clear progression of Israelites as an identified tribe.

In most cases, the main reason why we cannot find historical truth is our arrogance as well as the lack of respect to our ancestors and ancient people (without mentioning meaningless or self-dramatizing interpretation by some religious professionals). They had less scientific knowledge but far greater wisdom and strength than we have today.

And, I really think that the God requests mankind to understand why He chose Abraham and his family 4000 years ago when He saw the man leaving Ur.

(If the God requests us to understand why He chose Mitochondrial Eve, we may all soon become history due to God's Anger, for we have left Africa behind so sinfully and irresponsibly in atrocities sometimes.

Yet, good and brave girls, in order to save mankind and secure at least its 22nd century, you may try hard to become another Mitochondrial Eve. Indeed, God might choose you, no matter how you call your God.

(Ms. Hiroko Kuniya has been working for NHK for 26 years as a news caster or an anchorperson, though she is not an employee of the public broadcasting station.

She started her career as a forerunner of a type of career women who graduate from a US university and work in an international sector in Japan. Such women are today moving their way not only into leading positions in non-nonsense business but also into the national parliament called Diet.

Since 1993, Ms. Kuniya has been hosting a 30-minute reporting/commentary program, from 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., dealing with various social issues.

Last night, she picked up "blog," an Internet software program to conveniently present texts and pictures through a host system.

The point under discussion is that "blog" is sometimes used, especially in the U.S., for advertisement and commercial purposes, not in a plain and honest manner but under disguise of an unpaid-citizen's voluntary service for other consumers.

This blog "EEE-Reporter" has no sponsors; there are no bosses, gurus, or politicians of any sorts behind this blog. There is only God or Allah upon it just like upon your head.

Ms. Hiroko Kuniya, well observing the rules of etiquette for so long, has actually become a heroine in this field, though without much fanfare due to the [unpopular] brand of NHK, probably because she looks like having no stupid associations with money-driven bosses, gurus, or politicians behind the scene.

You follow God or Allah. That alone is truly a big enterprise even though you think your are No.1 in a certain sector in the U.S. or any other country.)
