SPY NOVELS (OR MONEY TALKS)

SPY NOVELS (OR MONEY TALKS)

(romans d'espionnage)

I sometimes read novels until the Soviet Union collapsed and the Persian Gulf War erupted around 1990.

SECTION 1: Ian Fleming

--------
In March 1960, Fleming met John F. Kennedy through Marion Oates Leiter who was a mutual friend and invited both to dinner. Leiter had introduced Kennedy to Fleming's books during his recovery from an operation in 1955. After dinner Fleming related his ideas on discrediting Fidel Castro; these were reported to Central Intelligence Agency chief Allen Welsh Dulles, who gave the ideas serious consideration.[14]

Fifty-six-year-old Ian Fleming died of a heart attack on the morning of August 12, 1964, in Canterbury, Kent, England, and was later buried in the churchyard of Sevenhampton village, near Swindon. Upon their own deaths, Fleming's widow, Ann Geraldine Mary Fleming (1913–1981), and son Caspar Robert Fleming (1952–1975), were buried next to him. Caspar committed suicide with a drug overdose.

The James Bond series did not give me any inspiration, but actor Mr. Sean Connery was impressive somehow since some girls looked like liking that type.

SECTION 2: Frederick Forsyth

The title “The ODESSA File” sounded so meaningful that I once read it.

------
The ODESSA File

…While Miller is recovering in hospital, he is told what happened while he was unconscious. Josef, his contact, warns him not to tell anyone the story. He does disclose that with Roschmann (code-named "Vulkan") in Argentina, West German authorities (at the urging of the Israelis) will close the radio factory where a rocket guidance system is being secretly developed for the Egyptian army. ODESSA's plan to oblierate the State of Israel by combining their technological know-how with Egyptian biological weapons has been thwarted…

But “The Day of the Jackal” is special, since it is said to be somehow associated with a real terrorist:
-----
Ilich Ramírez Sánchez (born October 12, 1949) is a Venezuelan-born self-proclaimed leftist revolutionary. After several bungled bombings, Ramírez Sánchez achieved notoriety for a 1975 raid on the OPEC headquarters in Vienna, resulting in the deaths of three people. For many years he was among the most wanted international fugitives. He is now serving a life sentence in Clairvaux Prison in northeast France.

He was given the nom de guerre Carlos when he became a member of the leftist Popular Front for Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). Carlos was given the "Jackal" moniker by the press (The Guardian) when the Frederick Forsyth novel The Day of the Jackal was reportedly found among his belongings. Although the book actually belonged to someone else, the nickname stuck.

SECTION 3: John le Carré

------
Le Carré's career as a secret agent was destroyed by Kim Philby, a British double agent, who blew the cover of dozens of British agents to the KGB, David Cornwell being among them. Years later, le Carré carefully depicted and analysed Philby's weakness and deceit in the guise of "Gerald", the mole hunted by George Smiley in the central novel of le Carré's work, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.

Anyway, I felt his novels were truly a kind of literature and got impressed by some titles, such as “The Spy Who Came in from the Cold (1963).”

That is all for today.

It is so, since the story of Princess Diana surpasses the talent of Shakespeare (baptised 26 April 1564 – 23 April 1616) and Chaucer (c. 1343 – October 25, 1400?).

Or possibly conversely, as Shakespeare and Chaucer had failed ultimately, Princess Diana died in Paris in 1997.

(It is getting hot around Tokyo, today.

What will it be when August comes around?

I mean what miracles we will see, of course, between us, or on the Internet, folks, friends, yeah, brothers and sisters of soul...Be spy-cool than money-hot...)

John 21:25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.
