CHAPTER II: The Rich with More Wealth Cause Stagnation

T: Total consumption of a nation
W: Total wealth in a nation
S: A ratio of the rich's wealth in total wealth of a nation
1%: A ratio of money used by a rich man for his consumption to all the money he has
99%: A ratio of money used by a poor man for his consumption to all the money he has

T = 0.01 x W x S + 0.99 x W x (1-S)
= 0.01WS + 0.99W -0.99WS
= 0.99W – 0.98WS
= W x (0.99 – 0.98 x S)

If W, namely total wealth in a nation, is almost constant:

A poor man has to use 99% of money he has to buy foods and other essential products for his living, whereas a rich man may use only 1% of money he has to buy foods and other essential products for his living.

Accordingly, the more total wealth in a nations is possessed by the rich, the less the total consumption of the nation will be.

In Japan, W, namely GDP and other domestic assets, has been almost constant in these 15 years but the ratio of wealth taken by the rich has increased, so that total consumption has never been boosted. This is another aspect of deflation.

It means that the Japanese Government has to take a measure to increase a share of wealth or money by the non-rich people. The most effective way is to provide money or the government notes free to the poor people. Economists must present a concrete method that has the least negative influence on the yen and the credit of the Japanese government.

Of course, with other factors being minor, an increase in total consumption in a nation will energize business activities; companies will employ more people. Even tax revenue will increase.

Note that the U.S. made W increase so as to keep a high level of total consumption till 2008 September. Specifically, they provided a huge amount of (false) credit to the poor who could not buy their homes with their money at hand, which is called a criminal sub-prime loan mortgage scheme. This (false) credit had an effect of increasing W in the U.S.

CHAPTER III: 1800 Times Larger

When boiled or evaporated, water expands its volume 1800 times larger.

This expansion of volume can be translated into an increase of pressure, a potential for physical work.

It is the British Industrial Revolution that enabled the practical application of this law.

However, in order to build a system to use this 1800-time expansion power of "water," they needed coal and iron in addition to a certain level of science (Newton preceded the Revolution) and a freedom of spirit from the Vatican.

Christ Jesus said that faith would be multiplied 30 times and 60 times before further 100 times if one man has fulfilled a holy mission.

Anyway, the British got 1800 times more power than other nations. So, continental Europeans followed suit; Americans followed suit; and Japanese followed suit all successfully, but no other races and nations in Asia and Africa could due to a lack of appropriate uniqueness in terms of an underlying level of culture, spirit, and religion.

But, in Japan, during the Tokugawa samurai period before the Meiji Imperial Restoration in 1868, some samurai scholars were studying European mathematics and science almost at the same level of Newton, since the samurai regime permitted import of some Western books, though limited, from the Netherlands especially except religious or Christian ones. (Tokugawa closed the country to have the Vatican influences kept off.) It added another favorable factor for the success of launching of the Japan's modernization in the late 19th century.

In 1674 Seki published Hatsubi Sampo in which he solved fifteen problems which had been posed four years earlier. The work is remarkable for the careful analysis of the problems which Seki made and this certainly was one of the reasons for his great success as a teacher.

Seki anticipated many of the discoveries of Western mathematics.
Seki was the first person to study determinants in 1683. Ten years later Leibniz, independently, used determinants to solve simultaneous equations although Seki's version was the more general.

Seki also discovered Bernoulli numbers before Jacob Bernoulli. He studied equations treating both positive and negative roots but had no concept of complex numbers. He wrote on magic squares, again in his work of 1683, having studied a Chinese work by Yank Hui on the topic in 1661. This was the first treatment of the topic in Japan.

In 1685, he solved the cubic equation 30 + 14x - 5x^2 - x^3 = 0 using the same method as Horner a hundred years later.

He discovered the Newton or Newton-Raphson method for solving equations and also had a version of the Newton interpolation formula.

Among other problems studied by Seki were Diophantine equations. For example, in 1683, he considered integer solutions of ax - by = 1 where a, b are integers.

Secrecy surrounded the schools in Japan so it is hard to determine the contributions made by Seki, but he is also credited with major discoveries in the calculus which he passed on to his pupils.

(This posting happens to be the 1689th, according to the blog program record.)

So, it was not so easy to carry out the Industrial Revolution outside the European/Christian/Judaist domain in the late 19th century.

The numbers of Nobel Prize (Physics, Chemistry, and Medicine) winners in Asia.
1. Japan...14
2. Israel...2
2. Taiwan...2
3. India...1
3. Pakistan...1

(China and South Korea are yet to be glorified.)

So, it is not so easy to carry out the Industrial Revolution outside the European/Christian/Judaist domain since the late 19th century, as you need 1800 times larger efforts in Asia.

*** *** *** ***

Now the NHK TV channel has announced the new year.

Japan is the first country to be blessed with the coming of a new year, every year.

It is now at 00:04 a.m. of Janauary 1, 2011, around Tokyo.

Incidentally, South Korea has no time difference from Japan; East Australia is one hour advanced, honestly.

Anyway, a Happy New Year!

A Very Happy New Year, if you are poorer than I!

Of course, a very, very happy new year to those who are chosen by the Lord God Almighty.
