Russia & Global Cooling

Today, it is snowing again in Tokyo.

A volcano has erupted in Kyusyu, the southern major island of Japan proper.

And, food poisoning in elementary schools in Hokkaido, the northern major island of Japan proper, has put 800 pupils in affliction.

And, the approval rating for the Kan Cabinet has drooped to 20% or so.

The only bright news in Japan today is:
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 13 (AP) - (Kyodo)—(EDS: WILL BE LED)
Takahiro Matsumoto, guitarist in the popular Japanese hard rock duo B'z, on Sunday won the Best Pop Instrumental Album award at the Grammys for "Take Your Pick."

CHAPTER I: Illegal Soviet Invasion of the Kuril Islands

On August 15, 1945, the Empire of Japan surrendered to the Allied led by the U.S.

On the day, acts of war were ended. The Imperial Army and Navy stopped military operations in Manchuria, China, Indochina, the Pacific Ocean regions, and around the OKinawa/Ryukyu Islands. The U.S. also ceased fire.

But, the Soviet Union continued its attacks on the Empire of Japan. They launched offensive and armed invasion of the Kurile Islands (actually firing at Imperial soldiers stationed in the Islands hoisting the white flag), though the Empire of Japan accepted a condition of the surrender that it would abandon its territorial jurisdiction on the Kurile Islands (eventually except the southern part of the Islands which historically and geographically belong to Japan).

Shumshu (Russian: Шумшу, 'Shumushu Japanese: 占守島 Shumushu-tō), is the northernmost island of Kuril Islands chain in the Sea of Okhotsk in the northwest Pacific Ocean.

During the Invasion of the Kuril Islands, Soviet landed on Shumshu on August 18, 1945, and combat operations continued through August 23, ending with the surrender of the surviving members of the Japanese garrison. The Battle of Shumshu was one of the last battles of the war. The Soviets forcibly deported the remaining Japanese civilian inhabitants and sent the prisoners of war, including most male civilians to labor camps. Kataoka was renamed Bakovo (Russian: Байково), and the island annexed by the Soviet Union in 1946. Japan formally gave up sovereignty over the island under the terms of the San Francisco Peace Treaty of 1951.

In the battle of Shumshu, the number of the dead and wounded was 1,018 on the Imperial troops and 1,567 on the Soviet troops.

Yet, this battle was unnecessary one, since the Empire of Japan surrendered to the Allied led by the U.S. three days prior to the start of this invasion by the USSR. Though as a condition for ending WWII the Allied nations and the Empire of Japan agreed that no country would be allowed to expand its territory from boarders having been set before the start of WWII, the Soviet Union tried to expand its territory by occupying the Kurile Islands illegally.

Besides, as the USSR did not sign the San Francisco Peace Treaty of 1951, it has no right at all on the Kurile Island in addition to the southern half of Sakhalin.

As I once discussed it, though Japan gave up the Kurile Islands at the end of WWII, it did not agree to occupation of the Kurile Islands by the Soviet Union. It was up to negotiations mainly between Japan, the Soviet, and the U.S. But as the Cold War started, the USSR did not join the Treaty of 1951, so that America's decision that the South Kuril should not belong to the USSR prevails, for the Soviet and the Russian Empire had never established its dominion there since the first diplomatic treaty between the Empire of Japan and the Russian Empire in 1855. (In the Treaty of 1875 between the two Empires, the Empire of Japan legally obtained the whole Kurile Islands.)

So long as Russia continues to occupy the Souther Kurile Islands and the souther half of Sakhalin, it cannot be trusted, respected, and international-treaty-abiding.

CHAPTER II: Global Cooling

People, mostly European rich people, have argued too much about the global warming and the CO2 emission trade without enough fear of God.

They have not considered how wrong and sinful their rich material life is. No rich persons in Europe become materially and financially poor to save the world from the global warming. Instead, they have tried to be rather richer through the CO2 emission trade. When they get more money through the CO2 trade, they intend to force Japan and developing countries to use less energy while allowing China and the U.S. to continue to use a huge amount of coal and crude oil.

To combat global warming, Europe has to first start to become materially poor. Without this sincere attitude, the CO2 trade cannot be trusted. They have to review, reflect on, and regret their material civilization based on use of a huge amount of energy, which inevitably leads to rise of temperature.

Yet, there seems to be factors more decisive and powerful in global warming/cooling on the earth and in the space: the ocean currents and the sun.

UAH Update for January 2011: Global Temperatures in Freefall
February 2nd, 2011 by Roy W. Spencer, Ph. D.

January 2011 experienced a precipitous drop in lower tropospheric temperatures over the tropics, Northern Hemisphere, and Southern Hemisphere. This was not unexpected, since global average sea surface temperatures have been falling for many months, with a head start as is usually the case with La Nina.

UK Summer and Winter Weather Forecast 2011-12

This extended period of low solar activity has now gone on for far too long, to be anywhere near normal.

I can also not stress the importance of the gulf stream shift enough than I already have, in terms of the amount of heat that it transfers to the UK. So let's now take a look at some comparable real time satellite data below, in relation to the horizontal current in 2009 and 2010. See Fig.4

IG.4 NOAA, (2009 & 2010)

Now let's take a look at at the horizontal current data below dated: 30th Jan 2011. See Fig.5

FIG.5 NOAA, (2011)

This has also now gone on for far too long, to be anywhere near normal.

Summer 2011

Based on the factors I have covered, it would be adequate to suggest below average temperatures in terms of how I calculate solar activity into my forecasts. The UK will also begin to see the lag effect of the gulf stream shift to couple this. However, I also feel that the La Niña will largely influence the UK summer, in terms of how it will affect the jet stream.

CHAPTER III: Russian Possible Canals to Stop Cooling

There have been some arguments about the water issue in Russia, such as the Aral Sea. Some of them are even related to the global cooling, since rivers flowing into the Arctic Sea, along with melting ice of the Greenland, contribute to prevention of the Gulf Stream flowing into the north from the Gulf of Mexico, thus causing less heat to Europe.

An even bigger environmental reason for building these canals applies to the Ob-Irtysh, which flows into the Arctic Ocean. Many climatologists and hydrologists are concerned about the impact of fresh water flowing into the Arctic. Their models suggest that too much fresh water might have an effect on the Gulf Stream, causing it to no longer wind its way northwards hugging Europe’s western shores, from Spain to Murmansk. Weather in Europe, if no longer warmed by the Gulf Stream’s tropical ocean current, would revert to an ice age. Not a pleasant thought, if you’re sitting outdoors to tea in London. Melting glacial ice and icepack in recent years have allowed unprecedented levels of fresh water to accumulate in the Arctic. Diverting as many as 40 cubic kilometers of fresh water away from the Arctic delta of the Ob-Irtysh would significantly reduce the levels of fresh water in the Arctic, helping preserve the northward flowing Gulf Stream, preventing an imminent ice age

It is said that making 1000 liters or 1 ton of fresh water from seawater costs $1.

With development and wider use of this technology, it will save the world.

Especially in China, among 669 big cities, insufficient water supply is reported in more than 400 cities and a significant lack of water is reported in 110 cities.

So, China is actively introducing desalination plants like in Arab nations. But, water shortage can be a very big factor for future uprising of people in China.

China has to start to face and address problems its rapid industrialization has brought about on its soil.
