The Koran and Crude Oil (Le Coran et l'huile brute)

Japan has no Koran and crude oil. But, it has 2000 year continuous and independent history with deep penetration of culture based on Shintoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism. Accordingly it is no wonder that Japan has the world fastest supercomputer.

Japanese supercomputer 'K' is world's fastest

A new Japanese supercomputer called "K" is being hailed as the world's fastest - three times more powerful than the previous holder of the title.

SECTION I: Crude Oil Producers

Around 2010, the largest oil producing countries are Saudi Arabia, Russia, and the U.S.

Everybody knows that the U.S. and the Soviet Union were the two superpowers till 1990's. Today, Russia has still a large capacity of producing crude oil.

Yet, what is specific is the presence of Saudi Arabia as one of the three superpowers in terms of crude oil production. It might imply that this sub-era is dominated by Saudi Arabia or its representing Islam. At least, as long as crude oil is a major energy source for mankind, the weight of Saudi Arabia or its representing Islam cannot be lessened.

In other word, we have to realize that we are living in a sub-era symbolized by Saudi Arabia or its representing Islam, though Osama bin Laden was taken on by the U.S. Conversely, Muslims are now given a big chance to grow and advance to New Islam.

SECTION II: Who Buy Oil from Saudi Arabia

It is Japan and other Asian countries that import the most crude oil from Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia should stop trying to serve European and American Christians with its abundant crude oil. Saudi Arabia should help Asian and African countries more and more with its abundant crude oil. It is quite right from a view point of religion.

Indeed, Saudi Arabia had a chance to become the third superpower next to the U.S. and the Soviet Union (Russia) if the Mecca-honored Islamic nation could have leveraged its crude oil more strategically. But, in fact, the country came to be dependent on Western oil companies while purchasing advanced weapons from the U.S., the U.K. and so on. Yet, it needed help from America to get rid of a threat from Saddam Hussein's Iraq.

Osama bin Laden was wrong to pursue his terroristic way while being faced with the ugly relationship between Riyadh and Washington DC. But, it is true that a big issue is there between Riyadh and Washington DC or London.

The number of nuclear fuel rods blown off in Chernobyl was 1660, out of one reactor unit.

The total number of nuclear fuel rods partly or fully melted or damaged or so suspected in Fukushima Daiichi is 4500, all in four reactor units.

Potentially, this Fukushima Daiichi Accident is the largest nuclear disaster in terms of the amount of uranium involved, though officially it is announced that the amount of radioactive material leaked from Fukushima Daiichi is 10% of that from Chernobyl. Yet, other sources estimate that the amount from Fukushima Daiich is 20%, 50%, or 200% of that from Chernobyl.

Now, 80,000 or more residents around Fukushima Daiichi are by comparison evacuated. It is not clear when they will be able to return to their homes. It is however 4% of the total population of the Fukushima Prefecture, that is, two million. Incidentally, the Fukushima Prefecture has GDP comparable with Vietnam's, Slovakia's, or Bangladesh's.

Someday in future, this experience of the large scale nuclear disaster might become another asset of Japan, like its supercomputer technology, though it might sound a little strange as of now.
