The Milky Way and More than 100 billion Galaxies
It was in 1924 that the mankind discovered that there were many galaxies outside our galaxy the Milky Way.
Stars we see in the sky at night belong to the Milky Way. We cannot see other galaxies with the naked eye, except a few near galaxies, since they are 2.4 million light-year far or more (the closet galaxy is the Andromeda Galaxy with one trillion fixed stars).
The number of fixed stars, each of which has planets and satellites, in the Milky Way is more than 100 billion, and there are more than 100 billion galaxies in the universe. And, it was just 90 years ago that the mankind realized the existence of galaxies other than the Milky Way.
However, we can comprehend the structure easily in a schematic way, though the scale of the universe cannot be truly realized with our natural sense. And, Einstein created his theory about the physical nature of the space and time of the universe before he knew the existence of other galaxies in the universe.
Like Einstein, ancient philosopher or religious persons grasped the nature of the world and thus the universe even without knowing that the earth is actually a globe that is rotating around the sun.
However, philosophies and religious creeds that cannot stand before the true structure of the universe should be abolished. Any myths that cannot be justified before the modern knowledge of the universe should be abolished. Then what is left?
Should the Bible be abolished? But it simply states that the God created this universe in a simple and allegoric story that could be understood by people. And, Christ Jesus never mentioned the structure of the universe. Especially, in the words of Christ Jesus, there was nothing that contradicts the physical structure of the universe. He mainly focused on the Kingdom of God, Heaven and the hell, which all belong to the spiritual sphere but not to the physical universe.
The Koran also does not mention specifically how the universe was created and what structure it took, since Islam admitted Judaism and the Old Testament.
Put simply, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam can well stand before the truth of the physical universe revealed by the modern scientists.
Anyway, God can identify the earth that is one of planets of one of fixed stars among more than 100 billion fixed stars in the Milky Way that is one of more than 100 billion galaxies in the universe. And, God created human beings on the earth, according to the Bible.
Indeed what is impossible for men is possible for God.
Visible with the naked eye (and captured with only a digital camera), this is the Andromeda Galaxy, as seen from Earth.
At a “mere” 2.4 million light years from us, it is the closest large galaxy to us, by far. As far as our best telescopes can show us, Andromeda looks like this.
