"he sat down, and taught them" - This Era of History since 1500

A Tokyo Railroad Station

This Era of History since 1500

This era of the history started with Columbus reaching America about 500 years ago.  The history in this era can be roughly represented by the following historical characters for each century:

Around 1500:
Columbus (1451-1506)
Martin Luther (1483-1546)

The history of the mankind expanded to America by Columbus.  A new Christian school was launched by Martin Luther.  In this way, geographically and spiritually the mankind entered the new era.

Around 1600:
William Shakespeare (1564-1616)
Johannes Kepler (1571-1630)
Galileo Galilei (1564-1642)

Shakespeare contributed to development of literature leading to the present days. Kepler and Galilei supported the theory of heliocentricism Nicolaus Copernicus launched, which drastically changed the view of people on the universe. The science started to be separated from religion.

Around 1700:
Issac Newton (1642-1727)

Newton set the basement of the modern science.

Around 1800:
Napoléon Bonaparte (1769-1821)
Carl Friedrich Gauss (1777-1855)

Napoleon introduced a new paradigm of the European society after the French Revolution. He contributed to prevalence of the ideas that led to establishment of the modern society.  Gauss lifted up the human scope of mathematics and physics, providing new methods for scientific study that have been used by all the succeeding scientists.

Around 1900:
John Rockefeller (1839-1937)
Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

Oil became the major energy source for the mankind in addition to coal in the 20th century.  It is Rockefeller that symbolized this industrial revolution.  Einstein also triggered revolution in science in the sense that the mankind realized, through Einstein's theory, that this universe was not what they felt with their ordinary feeling.  Einstein also opened the new age of nuclear energy.

Around 2000:
Internet
Mobile Phones

From Wall Street to Islamic terrorists in addition to China and other emerging economies, the power of the Internet and mobile phones have come to have drastic influences.  Now global economy, security, and development of science and technology rely on these new technologies.  But these technologies have also devastating potential if abused.

However, how will a man living in the 22nd century look back to this century?  Who or what he can easily identify as critical factors of the 21st century might not be yet seen by us who living in 2016.
